Check out "custom NES guy" on youtube and FB. Now that's a guy who does body and detail work that I would trust with my console.

Totally. Dude does amazing things with consoles and controllers.

I know you hate krylon fusion wiggy, but I've gotten nice results with it. =P

Agreed... I've gotten pretty good results with Krylon Fusion as well. I'd certainly suggest higher quality if one had the means and ability to use it, but for the budget conscious, it's not terrible. At least not in my experience (though it is admittedly temperamental and can go bad real quick in poor weather conditions). That said, I've done a couple dozen custom consoles myself and (not to toot my own horn) they were miles better (and cheaper) than this guy's work. Definitely not Wiggy level awesome, but still pretty decent I think.
I don't want to knock the guy too hard 'cause maybe he's fibbing a bit about his experience and is still learning techniques and such, but I find it somewhat shocking that he's actually sold a couple of his custom systems (according to his recently completed eBay listings). He seems to be seeking top quality level prices for bottom quality level work. But hey, apparently that appeals to someone at least.

Sorry, I wasn't trying to diss Fusion so much as call out his "highest quality" comment. I mean, look at that megaman NES controller overlay. It's a mess.
My biggest issues with fusion are A) it doesn't bond to very many plastics at all, contrary to what the label says, and B) you can't use a primer with it, so you'll need like 10 coats if you want to paint a black console white or any lighter color, effectively turning your console into a giant, doughy looking mess. It has its uses, they're just VERY limited in my opinion.

No worries. I'd actually agree with you on all of that. Like I said, I'd definitely use higher quality if one could afford it. I'd put fusion in the middle of the pack as far as quality goes, certainly not the top. Seems to work great on most Nintendo consoles, but doesn't bond well at all to Sega Genesis systems.
I have really come to hate the Fusion clear coat though. IMO that stuff is pretty much crap.
Totally agree... That Mega Man controller overlay made me cry a little bit. NES and Mega Man deserve better.

Agreed to most of that. There's no way I could have gotten a lighter color.
I couldn't force it to chip though (was checking durability in unseen areas)
but I waited the 7 days for full cure before reassembly. (2 coats Krylon, 2 coats clear)
Pic because I never posted one :P

Quoted because that was a key issue for me. Can't rush the stuff or it gets messy. Tis true. It's hard to chip once it's cured properly. Pretty much have to try to damage it.
I Like that N64 you did. Nice work.
If anyone's interested, you can check out a most of the custom systems I've done here (all using Fusion paint, vinyl decals, and plenty of patience)...

Ended up selling all of those (mostly on eBay). Was getting between $85 and $100 per console set pretty regularly. Max was the yellow Metroid NES, which sold for $150 due to a bidding war near the end. Seems my customers were all pretty happy with the results and the prices. Boggles my mind that this other guy can think his warrant so much.

Hey, I like most of those. If I ever went the custom console route I'd probably order from the custom nes guy, but your stuff looks good too!

Custom NES guy just did another console.

Not exactly game related but there is no way I would pay 10 G's for a sealed calender that is not signed by anyone.
