And stay away from Marvel vs. Capcom 1 and 2. I'm working on em. In fact, just stay away from the fighting games. I have a personal attachment to them, so I'd like to do them myself.
Good to see you back working on DC covers. I'll be nothing more than a cheerleader here :) Maybe providing some scans along the way when I buy some of the more obscure and rare games on my wishlist.
I'm also very excited to see SMMM's covers for the DC's fighting games. There's a ton of great artwork for them and I'm eager to see what you'll come up with.

I only changed my mind because everyone wanted both, so I didn't have to re-do all of my covers.

Also, just slapping the same art on three templates does not, in my opinion make it a PAL or JPN cover.

It's direct rip of a poster for the arcade version. I don't like it for the sole reason that we're doing DREAMCAST covers. It makes no mention of the Dreamcast's exclusive features and no screencaps.

I don't want to just slap the same cover with the PAL template, I want them to be as accurate as the US ones I do. The problem is finding good quality PAL scans. I can find more JPN scans than PAL. If you want me to make one, then get me some 300dpi scans and I'll see what I can do.

Nope, I'm almost positive it's just been "released" as homebrew/emulated software.
By the way, I'll be adding the rest of your DC covers now. So everybody who's wondering why the links in this thread don't work anymore, it's because they're in the process of being added. Every cover posted in this thread will be available in an hour or so.

For homebrew it's a case by case decision. I know there's a homebrew Quake for DC which is really good. id Software published Quake's source code so others could make mods or whatever they want with it. In this case I'd say we could host a Quake cover for DC without having a guilty conscience.
In case of discs full of emulated software (like a SNES emu with a full or huge ROM set) I'd say it's definitely a no-go.
Same with Metal Slug unfortunately. I'm pretty sure SNK didn't publish the source code and it's just emulated. If I'm wrong about it Seasian just tell me. I'm not into the DC homebrew scene that much.
Btw, Lumberjack42, once you're through with all your covers could you create covers from my raw scans? They're in the DC Raw section, they're the scans without a username.

This one's a long shot since I don't have scans and haven't found any anywhere, but the last Dreamcast game I need to case is Carrier. Maybe some one can point me in the right direction for that one...
I just picked that game up the other day, but I'm out of town dealing with a death in the family and as such I haven't really had the ability to work on covers. I'll be back in town on Friday and I might be able to have something done by next week.

Aww man, Flogain Bros. was a great game! Too bad my copy doesn't work any more (it goes back to the DC main screen as soon as I play the first mini-game)
I still haven't figured it out. How do you go from CD to DVD? Do you try to recreate it? Or is it even more complex than that?
First I try to find a larger pic on the web and barring that I'll extract elements from the cd cover and expand around them, like on Speed devils, I cut out the sky and just remade it so I could expand it beyond the cd case size. I also finished the flames on the top of the logo because the we cut off on the original.

Do you know how many Japanese DC games there are? I believe it is significantly more than the US saw. Such a good system to meet such an early death in the US.

Quick question for you Lumberjack. When you make a custom Dreamcast cover, do you save the final psd with all of the layers and whatnot on top of the jpg? Or just the raws and the final jpg?

Any thoughts on the covers though?If I complimented every cover, it would loose meaning. Better than I could do in almost all cases, but I'm only going out of my way to make a specific compliment post for a cover that looks awesome.

uploaded front, inlay, and rear scans for gigawing, incoming, espn track and field, the grinch, mortal kombat gold, and inlay and rears of phantasy star online.
mortal kombat gold had a shiny cover, so it looks a little weird when scanned, but i think it should still be useable.
now i should really start studying...but i hate studying....

Thanks for the great artwork on the dc dvd covers. You sparked my interest in casing my collection again. Jewel cases are just to fragile. The detail you put into these covers are the best! Please keep up the good work. I know it has got to be time consuming and your work seems like its not appreciated but it is. True Artwork! Awesome! Okay guys,
I know that some people here think that the orange band on the DC DVD covers looks like ass, so I thought, "hey, quite a few of the my Dreamcast games have a black spine and front." So, I thought I'd see what you guys think of adding an all black version. THankfully, every cover I make, I save the PSD file so the conversion of what I've already done won't be difficult at all.

I don't know if they would be of any use, but I have a whole box full of almost all the dreamcast covers. They are not original, but inserts created by a store I used to work for. They are pretty decent in quailty though. I can test scan one when I get home from work today to see if any part of the scan is usable if you guys want me to. Just let me know if you guys want to try them out.
No Prob. I also have the real Last Blade and Project Justice cases, but they seem to be missing from where I put them :-\
BTW, dmc1974, could you scan the inlays for Air-Force Delta and Fighting Force 2?

Definitely, The only change on the All-Stars version is the Orange spines and All-Star Stripe on the inlay. All of the art remained the same.

Every "official" DVD case insert I've seen has the logo rotated to match the spine text, so if you lay the DVD down where the text reads "normally", the logo matches it.
In addition to that, the logo background color always matches the background of the text, so there is no white square behind the logo.
I noticed this even on my PS1 games, but the covers I've seen have the logo on a white background, with the "Playstation" text in white, on a black background.
And in these, the text background color is orange, but the logo uses white. Isn't it the Europe/PAL Dreamcast cases that use the orange background, and don't they use orange as the bg color of the logo as well, with the actual logo in white?

Yes, the PS2 design did influence the spine on this template, mainly as an aesthetic choice but also as a way to differentiate between my DC collection and my budding Wii collection.

I'm just curious. Do you try to collect a full US DC set? I'm just asking because (IMO) Spirit Of Speed is a godawful game. So either you like it, got it dirt cheap or searched for it to complete your collection.
I figured we would've already had DOA2 for a while now. That game is by far one of the most common games on the system.

I'll scan it in for you but my scanner doesn't support the "descreen/derasterize" function.
My work around is scanning it in at super high DPI and downscaling it, that way you don't notice the "rasterized" look.

Hey brother, have you seen Shenske's poly-whatever case thread? If I were you, I would wait for him to finish his Dreamcast template and get to work on covers for those cases. They all have come out sooooooo good-looking so far. ;)

There is always a strong interest for the retail covers for people to print off plus I am working on the polycase template that the jewel case covers would be perfect for. Thanks :)
He's been on and off making these covers for well over two years now. When he's done and has finished all 247 covers and you manage to convince him to start over with the polycases then you should really consider running for office :DIt actually only takes minutes to make a poly-case cover since the covers just use jewel case scans. With the jewel case inserts that project could be finished very quickly.

This thread really is a model for all cover art threads.
80+% of the posts in this thread are nothing but cover art posts. It's awesome. Very neat, easy to navigate, and it's not even breaking 100 pages, despite the fact that the entire Dreamcast library is nearly completed in this single thread. The NES cover thread (and just about all the other cover threads, honestly) need to be seriously scrubbed and reduced, and have all of the off-topic conversations and misplaced request posts deleted from them. After being spoiled by following this cover thread, trying to sift through the garbage in the NES thread makes me want to cringe.
You're doing awesome work here, Lumberjack. I can't overstate my satisfaction with your work and this thread. Keep it up! ;)

@Lumberjack, I've taken the time to browse through most of this thread and it seems you've made a cover for every game I own. My Dreamcast titles are currently still in their jewel cases, but I'm getting the "itch" to re-cover/case the entire collection. I really like this template and I was wondering if you have or know where I can find pictures of these covers physically boxed up. Looking at the imandix previews is great, but I'd really like to see them sitting up on a shelf with other titles. I was combing through the photo gallery, but couldn't find any pictures in the time I was searching (I'm sure they're there somewhere).

I've been debating for a while if it would be easier to use the Dreamcast Magazine look for the two Generator covers. I know they weren't in the magazine but it would make producing covers for them quicker and less painful.I can give you scans for Generator 1, or just use my cover I made for it, its up more in the post.

Don't want to rain on your parade, but it's unlikely that it was actually downloaded by that many people. We often get bots who hammer downloads on one particular cover, no idea why. That being said, it is likely you have had as many downloads on that one as your other, so take pride in the fact that it's probably sitting on the shelves of 350 happy dreamcast owners. ;D

Holy crap!! For some reason I clicked on the Dreamcast section of the main site and saw the last uploads were my two covers for Sturmwind and Gunlord........and the latter is coming up on 31,000 downloads!! :o
Feels really satisfying to know that you have created something so many like and use.........especially when I literally made that cover from scratch (with an adapted template of course) pulling together the artwork, working out layout, logos, getting a translated back cover text and everything.
Feels like I have created something unique, which is not a feeling we often get to feel in this world any more huh. ;D
Anyway, whether this gets read by anyone or not (the thread seems to be rather dead), I really just wanted to say thank you to everyone who has encouraged and helped me develop this creative outlet I never thought I would have.
Photoshop always seemed too daunting until I threw myself into it fully making all the covers for both myself and all the people that have requested them from me here......but one thing is for sure, I have only developed and reached the standards I have now because of the admins and cover guru's here both pushing for high quality and making invaluable suggestions.
So again, many thanks for giving me an outlet during a very difficult and dark time of my life, one that will hopefully be over soon and I can re-double my efforts to more covers again!! :P
