Title: I'm really having troulbe printing custom SNES inserts. PLEASE HELP!!!
Post by: cobradvs on October 08, 2011, 11:01:18 AM
So I'm trying to get a few of the custom case inserts for some loose snes games I have. I have already gotten the clear cases, all I need to do is print the inserts but they are giving me a lot of trouble. Here is the process I have done so far and have come up empty handed, mostly because the size when they print is way to big.

-I download the custom case (Super Mario all stars + super mario world in this case)
-It opens up in Windows Photo Viewer
-I click on "print" in the top left corner
-The print window opens up and I have the option to change 4 things at this point. They are "printer" "paper size" "quality" & "Paper Type". There are     several choices for paper size but I don't know which one to pick?
-I have picked the option called "legal" for the paper size but it always prints too large.

So if anybody knows which options for me to pick I would greatly appreciate it. Also if you know of perhaps a more simple way of doing this, that would also be helpful. I tried using the paint feature and I got one to print that kind of fits, its just a little small. So if anybody could help me I would really appreciate it, thanks!

Legal is correct.

Sounds that it's either of the 2 possibilieties:

More likely one: You have fit to 1 page option on, and it triest o cover as much of the paper's surfacwe as possible thus streching the image.
Fix: Set the scaling to 100%.

Other possibility: It's one of the images that has proportions screwed, and setting the scaling to 100% will try to print the image to 4-9 pages.
Fix: Set scaling to 32%

Do the first fix and see from print preview is all OK, or will it try to print the image to 4-9 pages. If so, do the second fix.

I think this is easiest done in MS Paint or Paintshop.

Also make sure that when you print, don't just tell the computer to print Legal size; use Legal size paper. If you put regular letter size paper, it will not print right even if you do select legal size.

Also, I don't ever recommend printing through Windows Photo Viewer. If you don't have photoshop, then just use Paint, and make sure you hit Print Preview first, so you know how it will look when you print. If it doesn't fit on one page on Print Preview, it won't fit when you print.

using a program called UndercoverXP really helps, you have to input the settings for a UGC but it works out fine.

Hey everybody thanks for the suggestions!

@Seraph Man  so if I am just using normal 8.5 x 11 inch paper, what option do I use? And what is legal paper anyway?

@arseen  when you say I changed the scaling, what program do I use to do that in? Paint?

@Seraph Man  so if I am just using normal 8.5 x 11 inch paper, what option do I use? And what is legal paper anyway?

Legal paper is paper that measure's out to 8.5 x 14. Unfortunately, most printers are not capable of printing these covers on 8.5 x 11 (Letter size paper) as the printer's border restrictions will cut off a portion of the cover. If your printer can print borderless, then you can use letter size paper, but most printers can't.

If you go to Office Depot/Office Max/any shop that sells a variety of paper, you'll most likely find that they have legal size paper. However, as of this post, I've only seen standard legal and standard legal from recycled material, so if you're hoping to print on semigloss or glossy paper, you may be out of luck.

@Arseen  when you say I changed the scaling, what program do I use to do that in? Paint?

Yes, you can use Paint (and I recommend it over Windows Photo Viewer). From Paint, go to Page Setup. One of the options will be scaling, and it will say either Adjust to ___ % normal size or Fit to ___ by ___ page(s). Always have the first one (Adjust) selected. Now, if the preview fits on one page (assuming also that you've selected either Legal 8.5x14in paper or Borderless 8.5x11in paper), you're good to go. If, however, the preview shows the image as being extremely large, adjust the scale to 32%, and everything should go back to being good to go.

Hope this helps. ;)

Maybe I'm just crazy but I can and do print on 8 1/2x11 paper for UCG cases (and DVD cases also), I just set it to print at full size (as opposed to fit to paper) and make sure to print landscape and I've not had any real issues.  ???

I guess you lucked out and got a printer that can print borderless, or at least the border limit on yours is much smaller. Lucky. Can you print DS case slips without an issue?

I honestly haven't tried that because all my DS games I have have boxes, and I haven't gotten arount to buying cases to modify for my older portable games.
