Title: Major Change to the Viewing Page
Post by: Snowcone on October 12, 2006, 09:50:04 AM
Previously when you viewed a cover or a game the page would load all the cover thumbnails in the background. This could cause problems for people on slower connections so I updated the page to dynamically load the thumbnails only when needed. This should hopefully speed up page loads. If anyone notices any oddities with the thumbnails please let me know.

Oh, I also tossed the intermediate page ads on the site. They were paying $.01 per view which isn't even worth having them. I'd rather have a high quality site than $.75 in my pocket.

Great change.  One problem though (and this was probably also a problem before):

When mousing over covers near the end of the list, the preview appears too low, so that only part  of it shows in the window.  It creates a scrollbar in the browser, but there's no way to scroll down to see the rest of the cover since it only shows while you're mousing over the cover info.  The images near the bottom probably need to appear a bit higher than the summary info, rather than lower (sort of the way right-click context menus work).  Check out the 360 Kameo page for an example.

This is probably more trouble than it's worth fixing at this point, so maybe just adding some whitespace to the bottom of each page for now can be a temporary fix (thus ensuring enough room for each preview).

Yeah. I noticed that for games that have lots of covers, but haven't figured out exactly how I'd like to handle that. The whitespace thing may have to suffice for now.
