Goin with noclass_nick's idea. I looked and noticed there was no PS1 Jewel case template uploaded. So I put one together real quick and will share a link shortly.

If you would like to have another admin look at the covers for quality purposes i would suggest sending a few to tiktektak, his is probably the most thorough of all of us.

I looked at a James Bond World is Not Enough cover at it looked pretty fuzzy, especially the front image. My guess is the original scan was lower than 300dpi. The file size of that one is 1.26mb, my average cover with the same dimensions is around 3-4mb (2 to 3 times bigger). My guess is the original scans used were around 96-200dpi in size. Maybe we need another opinions then ...

One of the ones I looked at was Street Fighter Alpha 3. That was 300dpi and was clean. ???

All my covers are scanned at 600dpi, and scaled down to fit into my 300dpi template, the 007 cover for 8 disks i sent you was a mock up and i wasnt using scans made for that cover, i had just resized the jewelcase one to fit, thats why i sent you the tomb raider links afterwards they had been cleaned up a bit more and scaled down to fit the 8 disk poly :)
It was a mock up made with hopes of you trying it in a case and seeing if it looked alright, eg everything fit nicely in the spine etc

Needs some cleaning on the front. What scan settings are you using? I can see some miore pattern. Also some areas are dark. Contrast and Brightness need adjusting.

Scanned at 600dpi, descreen at highest, some cover seem to moire more than others, worst is Tekken 3 pal, the back of the actual cover is moired, so you scan it and its terribly moired. Yeah theres a couple of scratched on the cover where his head is, unfortunatly i dont have very good photoshop skills for that kinda voodoo.
Im not too worried bout having offical "site uploaded" covers, pal covers aint too common as long as i can do things to the best of my know how for now and host, offsite and please the people of PAL its all good. They look nicer than some of the other console gam covers uploaded on the site :P

*Quickly grabs a seat behind the splash guard. Grabs the bottle and takes an equal sized gulp. Notices Arseen has on "We want BLOOD!!!" shirt on.*
I'm just saying. I learned long ago that if its a "quick" cover, its an incomplete cover. Descreen/Derasturize (or whatever that option is called) scan settings and play with the "spot healing brush" and "clone stamp". Those tools zap away scratches, spots and blotches. Your covers are just a step or 2 from being real good. Just take the time to clan it and sharpen it.

Unfortunately most of the time this is actually true. I would love to go thorugh some of your covers and tell you if they're "yay" or "nay" but as I'm still in the process of moving I have next to no cover checking time at the moment (and a big backlog).... ;D

I also made this remark out of experience I sadly made many times. Still I always check every single cover by one user even if the first or first and second or first, second and third etc. are not so hot.

Even though they are only front, I actually have been cleaning a bunch of them. Would you scan the ones you do have the backs to?
They have been coming out clean using this template I put together (which I'll put up for download when i feel satisfied that it is complete) ;D

600dpi would be enough. Even better with the non moire settings.

Anything worth doing is worth OVERDOING! You can always make something big to small, you cannot make small to big. I have too many games with too less time to rescan something, so might as well go big.

I use (decreen) on my scanner, it's just that my scanner is about 6 years old already.

It is sooo much easier just to scan the fronts... I HATE scanning the backs =\, its taking me all day to scan a stack of 33 games, only 170 more to go (thats over 500 scans)

Can someone post a link to the PS1 Jewel Case template? Also if someone could do a WHITE Dreamcast, TurboGrafx 16, PC Engine, & 3DO jewel case templates I'd be EXTREMELY greatful. I prefer to case my PS1, DC, 3DO, TurboGrafx 16/PC Engine games in jewel cases just like the originals.

Does anyone here have experience converting the original Playstation long boxes into CD jewel case covers? I have three games in the original long boxes and I would like to make regular jewel cases for them so that they match my other PS1 games. I have front, back and spine scans of all three games if needed.

I still feel we should be scanning and hosting the reverse side of the front cover. Looks great, but looks terrible when printed with a white back.

I agree with scanning the inside cover and I plan to do that going forward. But if you don't have it, you could always put any generic image on the inside. It could be all black or something with the PS logo, or just reverse the front cove image. I leave mine white just because I consider any PS1 printed cover to be temporary. I will always search out a CIB copy to replace anything that isn't complete.

For my customs, they were tall-box exclusive games and the tall boxes had opaque black disc trays. When I make custom jewel cases, I use opaque black disc trays in the jewel case to match. That's not to say I wouldn't love custom inlays too, but sometimes good quality artwork is hard to find.

We aren't actually talking about the inlays. We're referring to the back of the manual, when opened and payed flat, like this:

When printed and folded in half, it looks better when the jewel case is open, rather than a blank white back. I suggest that if it's a custom, or if the back is not available, or even if the back is an advertisement for another game; maybe just make a custom blank back, similar to the Williams example above, or the ones in the Sega CD/ Saturn threads.

I'd say if it's something blank, or specific to that game (as in the Williams example), leave it as is. If it's an ad for another game, two versions would be best- one original (with the ad), and a custom black version with a PS logo or something.
