Hi there,
I will start a topic of my own covers and I really apologize if the arts doesn't fit your taste. I use a "minimalist style" like some people call it, and I think it's rather realist to say they are right. I love having artworks on the back of the cover and titles at the front. The reason for it is a matter of taste AND the fact pictures of "old school retro games" are hard to find within a good quality range [try searching for a hi-resolution 300 dpi of eien no filena cover for the sfc and you will know I am telling the truth - or I might be really bad not being able to find it]. Anyhow, since I am not sure if the feedback will be great, I will post them on "hyperlinks" to a image hoster [probably imageshack]. If the feedbacks are good and people start to like them or want them, I will upload them on site. Maybe I will even upload them on batch [.zip] on megaupload / mediafire or something.
Everything about snes was done under the "super famicom" logo, so you can change it easily on photoshop with a logo of your taste [the north america super nintendo for instance or whatever]. If you really wish to have one with the original logo, I could do it too... The "titles" logos are, for most of them, reproduced by me with photoshop [it's also hard to find "hirez" logos over internet] so it might not be exactly the same as what you are used to see.
I will post PSone, PStwo, Dreamcast and Nintendo64. Everything else is out of my jurisdiction! For tose [except for N64], I wasn't able to find nice logos... and since the "side" is small, I wanted to put something to fit : it ended with a regular windows font with subtitles in red hue... It still looks good but not AS good as the real ones... I apologize for this...
Anyhow, I am not so confident about this but since I use them myself and like the "style", I will try and share them with you [some members told me to give it a try so I will do]. It's not that harder to share them with others anyway... Oh, before I forget to mention it : I am really unsure about the artists who created the original pictures so I apologize preemptively [like in final fantasy, preemptive is way to go] if I post them without giving credit, I would like people to tell me and I will add in the descrition [thanks]. Every artwork was done by someone else [not the sleeves though] so I take no credit at all on this part.
Thanks and enjoy [or hate, suit yourself but don't shoot me down]!
Sincerly yours,
Qtipsnorris
NOTE : If there are mistakes, feel free to tell me, I will correct them with the uttermost haste! Feel free to leave comments, I will be happy to have a piece of your mind!

Oh my, those are really great. It's so simple, yet my guess is it would look great in the cases. The art for Super Mario RPG is just astonishing, really surprised me.
Can't wait for the N64 ones. ;D (hopefully already in English)
-
Yep, for the N64 ones, it'll be in english. I will post them soon enough [I just started out though, it might take a little while... Need to search for better pictures and such]. Already did some but I am tired tonight so I might upload some tomorrow. Thanks for the feed back, I am happy it pleases at least one person :) If you wish, I might be able to do the "super nintendo" soon enough [between school, my work and my wife, I am able to do some during week end ;)]
Later on!
By the way, PSone are really simplistic [even more than snes]... I printed all of them and, surprisngly, it looks great, even if it's kind of "missing something"... It's just even harder to find nice pictures for those... Well, it really can't get near perfection for ps one... the case are squarish and small, so making them fit for a DVD box is a pain... Hope you like them anyway... but I will not cry if people don't as I know it's not that nice for those...
-
These are actually pretty neat! Nice idea to cover some of those games that just don't have enough art out there ;)
-
Wow awesome work, man!
I really love some of the artwork you used, especially the Zombies Ate My Neighbors cover.
-
Way more artwork than what I was expecting for each cover...
It would be funny if people made covers that only had spines...that way when they put them on their shelf it looks nice and it saves ink.
-
I think their awsome, nice job. Zombies Ate my Neighbor is Freakin Sweet.
-
Those covers are pretty sweet.
Though, if I may suggest...
On this cover:
.HACK COLLECTION [6 disc case] : http://img13.imageshack.us/img13/9180/dothack.jpg
The characters are from G.U. You could really replace them with someone from the original series (the front looks more like Tri-Edge then Kite).
There are some good scans on Minitokyo (http://minitokyo.net/) and oreno.imouto.org (http://oreno.imouto.org/) you could use.
Sorry for nitpicking, but it just sort of bothers me.
-
i think that they look good, there is nothing wrong with minalmalist styles
people who say they dont like it are entitled to their opinions but to say they are bad is just being ignorant!
i like the idea of giving the artwork more space and credit, i have tried to include as much original art in my designs as i enjoy the orignal stuff! (www.jamesiaciofano.blogspot.com)
however i feel some of the images you might have chosen
doesnt give the "feel" of the game, like the Mario covers, i feel they should be bright and cheerful! but thats just my
opinion, lol have confidence in your work and dont let people put you down
nice work
jim

OH. MY. GOD. Where did you find that ninja turtles art? It's amazing
-
Nice covers but imageshack is the wrong place to host them. It downscales stuff or fucks it up in other ways.
Use mediafire, box.net or the likes instead.
-
I love the Zombies Ate my Neighbors artwork! where did it come from?
-
@ z0mbiew0lf : Thank you sir, it's nice to see people enjoying these. I am happy to share this stuff with you.
@ Brandonh1091 : I found the artwork on a computer graphic tutorial magazine called Imagine FX. I browsed over internet to find it and surprisingly, I was able to retrace. I think the artwork is really neat. I will post the name of the artist later. This guy is doing a nice job as he covered a lot of games that way.
@ judog1 : Would surely cost less... printing these cost a bunch... I spend sometimes more money on boxing my games than buying them haha. Though I don't think collector would love blank sleeves ;)
@ csvo2000 : Thank you. I have to admit I enjoyed doing the sleeve though the title was a real pain in the a**. Took me a while to redo it clean and sweet. The picture is sweet indeed and finding these kind of picture is sometimes really hard.
@ amarthar : Ah! Nice, I love those kind of feedbacks :) Thanks to have pointed that out, I will go and check if I can find nice pictures to fix this mistake. I haven't really noticed I made a bad move on this one... Was just using artworks I found and forgot the distinction between .GU and the original [strange since I played both, but brain's sometimes out after the 12 hours sched]. Don't worry, I enjoy when people take it seriously and tell me what is wrong. I am looking forward to your next comment if you find something else wrong!
@ bananajim : I appreciate the words! I think you are giving me will to keep going! I might try to redo mario in an alternate cover :) You are right about this one, even if I enjoyed the little mushroom. The picture made me smile when I found it, it was japanish looking [the sun ray behind it looks like the bandana of daniel-san in karate kid - you know you are getting old when your references come from a 90 movie... lol]. I will try to find nice pictures and do an alternate cover ;) Thanks for the imput. Do you see something else for another game that might be important to point out?? Would be nice :)
@ tmntfreak7 : the name says it all ;) You like turtles as much as I do... They're my childhood heroes and best game [replaying those old nes turtles is always enjoyable even if the arcade game was a pain to go through... lol] I found it surfing here and there, I don't recall where I found it, sorry... I wish I could be able to find the artist as I think it is a beautiful artwork too.
@ tiktektak : I remember you mentionning that in the first topic. I took note and will use mediafire or box.net. Thanks you for the reminder. I thought people would hate these covers so I uploaded them on something I kew. Now that I saw people interest in those, I will try to maximize the quality of the host.
@ violetsauce : Like I previously said, I don't recall the name of the artist but I will check tonight at home and will post the name of his. I found the artwork on a CG magazine called Imagine FX... I think it was the october issue [there was a zombie cheerleader on the magazine cover and it was all haloween artworks and tuto in]

Still anxious for N64 ;D
-
I have to say that I really enjoy the covers. It gives people an option if they want a more straight forward cover.
I have one thing I want to point out and this is about the front of the covers.
It will be very hard for people to cut them once they are printed. Since the front is all white, there is n borders to serve as guides, so many people will either cut them to large (and have to cut a 2nd time or 3rd) or cut them to small and have to reprint them.
maybe adding a thin black or gray line to the border would help.
-
You are absolutely right Vt102. I usually ask the clerk to do the cutting lines [I convert the whole thing in pdf and he merge them with bleed cut]. I shall modify the whole lot and add bleed cut. Just take note it will take a little while though. Oh! and Rafingon, I will need a little while to do them. There come the exam's weeks and I can't neglect studies, alas... I will finish those I started and will post them the fastest as I can. Thanks for those feedbacks : it really help improving the whole lot :)

Okay, since we're on that topic. I also found that the Megaman & Bass cover has artwork from the X series.
And also the DoDonPachi cover is freaking awesome! That bee on the back really fits the theme of the game and the style really contrasts with what's happening on screen.
-
Oh, rats... just kidding ;) For this one I must say I was well aware... I just have a hard time finding good pictures of megaman and bass. I was going to change it anyways... One thing for sure : this box wasn't really done, and since I uploaded in batch, I haven't put any "filters" - I took everything on my hard drive and put it on mediafire... I still am searching in that mess to find other artworks... By the way, I will probably try to modify the psone, pstwo, dreamcast, genesis and Nes to fit the style. I hope you guys are not in a rush ;) Thanks for pointing that out amarthar. It's much appreciated!

If you print them in UndercoverXP you can edit your templates to add Cut/Fold lines.

Still anxious for N64 ;D
Sorry, been having personnal problems and had to stay away from internet for a while. Now I'm back on track and will try to do more stuff, INCLUDING N64 covers ;) Hope people will be happy with this :)
Oh, I've been asking myself, is there a way to buy UGC without the use of credit card (I usually buy stuff with paypal and the mediashelve stuff don't want me buying them with paypal... such a shame). Internet and credit card is dangerous, so I might want to find a site offering me paypal stuff... sure there is "racketboy" site but the cost way too much and each time I go on site, my spyware protection go crazy... wonder why... Anyways, would appreciate every imput :)
Thanks :D,

... I also found that the Megaman & Bass cover has artwork from the X series.
That was the very first thing I noticed. That and A Link to the Past uses Twilight Princess artwork.
It's not bad, though not really my taste. I do love the way Super Mario All-Stars looks when minimalized though. It looks appropriate, and there's more on the front than just text. I may use that front, except I'd convert the Mario face froim black to gold, to give it a coin look.
And yes, the Turtles art is sick.
-
Yep, you are right about twilight princess, though it's hard to find HI-RES pictures of link to the past... as for mario, the gold stuff should be cool :) Will give it a try :)
Didn't had time to change megaman and bass too, will certainly do when I get free time. Right now, I'm working on some artworks for ps2... And don't worry, I know the minimalist style isn't for everyone. I just like it more when it's clean than when it's full of writings and stuff, but it's just a taste of mine ;)
Thanks for the imput, I will try to find better pictures to fit the needs!
-
i love minimalist style stuff, and this is no exception. nice work!
-
No posts for over a year, so I'm not sure if anybody will even read this but I'm new here and just found your post. I think they look very cool and I love the idea of saving my ink cartridges with less to print. I whipped up these two in very little time and although they are slightly different than yours, I would not have even thought to do it if I didn't see this post.

I used Wiggy's N64 covers for the Spine then found the other images from google
