Title: My Successfully Cased Pokemon Pinball!!!
Post by: SonicAdvDX on March 12, 2011, 03:35:16 AM
So I finally finished the worst undertaking that I ever hope to come across in casing my video game collection, and that was modifying two DS cases to hold the original Pokemon Pinball. (Boy, was it a pain.) But now the pain is over, and I couldn't be happier with the result!  ;D (Actually, I could be happier, but more on that later.)

Here's the front. I didn't want to use the one already on the site, because it has that stupid, huge Australian-or-whatever "G" rating taking up too much real estate on the front, so I scanned my own box and threw this together. I doubted it was up to par with TCP's quality control, but after printing out, I see that it looks PERFECT, so I might be uploading the cover(s) later.

(I don't know why tinypic made these first few pictures sideways. I REALLY hate them. Anybody suggest a better site for me?)

Anyway, there's the front, I'm sure you get the idea. Here's the spine/back, my favorite. :P

Here's the game sitting in the case. Upside down, but that doesn't bother me in the slightest.

Here are some close-ups of the absolute hack-job I did on the inside of this case.

As you can see in the first picture, my first mistake was cutting the boxes all the way to the damn edges. That proved to be a real pain later on in the making of this case. Because cutting out the whole back required cutting out the whole back part of the plastic sleeve that holds the cover in place. I didn't think forward enough to realize that this would be a HUGE problem later on. None of the glues and epoxies that I own could glue back the glossy plastic cover to the smooth plastic case, so as you can see, I just stapled that bastards together. It actually worked surprisingly well. It doesn't look great, but it's on the inside, so I'm the only person who will ever see it.  ::)

Also, to keep the two cases attached, I used some Seal-All brand contact adhesive/sealant. First I glued the two backs together, then I put an extra light layer of the stuff on the outside where the two meet. It's only been drying for about two hours as of when I took these pictures, and it looks much better in person.

All in all, I gotta say, I'm happy with the way it came out, even though that glue is making it stink to high heavens right now. ;D Considering that I had no power tools to work with, just an X-Acto knife, a stapler, and some fancy glue, I gotta say I'm not too displeased with my poor-man's Pokemon Pinball case.  :P

Tell me what you guys things, and PLEASE pointers for my next double-DS case project. (I still have Mega Memory Card and GameShark cases to make for my Gameboy collection...  :-X )

If any of you guys are going to do this project yourselves, feel free to PM me to get the covers that I used, to make that split-title spine.  :)

looks pretty damn good id say :), I really like how it turned out.

For your next project you might want to consider bolting the two cases together instead. Just make 4 holes(one in each corner of the inside of the case) and stick a short bolt in going through to the inside of the back case then tighten the two of em together with a nut. You dont even need to cut out the entire back of the first case, just a hole big enough to fit the large tumor of a cartridge. Of course this would mean that the game would be in there backwards, but thats your call. No stapling, no gluing and not nearly as much cutting.

Looks great! I've got Warioware Twisted and the e-Reader to do myself. The e-Reader will probably have to be done in mini-box fashion though...

Yeah, this was the rough basis of my work, but i didn't have any of the power tools required to make those holes, nor did I have bolts  or screws. XD I admit, it would have been a thousand times easier though.

Anyway, I'm super glad you guys like it!!  ;D I'll see about Perfect Dark later. If any of you guys are going to do this project yourselves, feel free to PM me to get the covers that I used, to make that split-title spine.  :)

The only thing I dislike about this spine is that it says "game boy color" twice, but that's me being nitpicky :P

Yeah, I also felt that way a little. Same with the repeated Nintendo logo at the bottom.I tossed around the idea of trying to scale them up and split both the Color and the Nintendo logo so that they would meet at the spines and just look like one big label... But, that would have been an awful amount of work, being the sort of spine perfectionist that I am.  ::)

I dunno, since I can remove the covers, maybe I'll attempt a flush pair of logos and see where that takes me.

If it's going to be displayed on a shelf with Gameboy Color games, then I like it the way it is. It would blend in as opposed to sticking out. Maybe throw it in the middle of your games, then stand back and see what you think.

I've been wanting to buy extra cases so I can do this with my big games. Pokemon Pinball, e-Reader, WarioWare Twisted, Game Boy Color, etc. I've also considered it for my systems, too...

Hahaha, well, hopefully by "Systems" you're talking about handhelds. If you really wanna do that, I'd go with UGC's over DS cases for sure. In fact, I'm pretty sure we already have UGC cases for the Gameboy Pockets uploaded to the site. :P

I suppose UGCs would be better for uniformity for my handhelds. I was mainly thinking about the Micro for a DS case, but it is still too big.

Haha, it definitely is a frankencase. ;D But, now that it's done, I'm only going to see the inside of this case once in a blue moon. For me, it's what's on the outside that counts.  (I guess that makes me awfully shallow. :D )
