Someone in my scan thread asked for some photos of my collection, so I snapped a quick few (15 or so), so here they are, with some brief accompanying text:
This is my upstairs office/game room. It is where I do a majority of my gaming, which actually hasn't been a lot the past few years. 7 years ago, I bought this 1895 Queen Ann style historic home, and have spent the past 7 years tearing it apart and meticulously restoring it (taking a few liberties along the way). I probably have about a year left into it, which will finish the restoration of the original porch and the interior of detached garage (which was the original servants' wash house).
This is where I have a Wii and Xbox 360. The next photo is a zoomed in shot of the shelves under the Mortal Kombat banner:
These shelves are where I keep my Xbox, Gamecube and Atari Jaguar and Atari Jaguar CD collection.
Zooming back out and looking to the right in the original image is my TV stand with other gaming systems.
There is a Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64, Sega CDX (with 32X attachment), Sega Saturn, Sega Dreamcast, Atari Jaguar, Atari Jaguar CD and a Nuon DVD player, as well as an Xbox 360 hooked up to this TV. With the two displays upstairs and two Xbox 360's, this is where my friends and I do most of our 360 local network play (or even Xbox Live play). Under the window is my Sega Dreamcast collection:
The next photo is a shot looking to the left of the original photo.
That's where I keep my shelves with my Sega Genesis, Sega CD, Sega 32X, Sega Saturn, Super Nintendo and Nintendo 64 games. Also, just for fun, I included a "before" photo that I took when I was originally looking at the house 7 years ago to buy it:
In case you couldn't tell, yes, I moved the door to the upstairs bedroom, so I could fit my desk :) I also raised the ceiling to the rafters (adding about an additional 8ft of headroom and some really cool angles).
This is a shot of my Sega CD collection. I stacked the "late release heavy cardboard" games on the upper left as they didn't quite fit (I had originally built this shelf for DVD cases), and the upper right are the alternates (matte version of Lunar, re-release of Rise of the Dragon, and the green version of Wonderdog).
Here's a photo of my Sega Saturn collection. The one in the shot missing a spine, that's my Saturn Bomberman that I'm looking for a replacement back insert scan for and the reason I found this site (though, still haven't found the scan :) As for the random games slid out, those are ones with broken hinges. I have some spare cases in the cellar, though, just haven't swapped them out yet.
This is shot of the opposite wall with my Sega Genesis, Sega 32X, Super Nintendo and Nintendo 64 games. My Sega Genesis collection is sparse, because it had gotten damaged in storage (water and then subsequent mold), and these were the survivors. I may or may not try building it back, have yet to decide (it was primarily only the Sega released titles, similar to how my Super Nintendo and Nintendo 64 collections are primarily only the Nintendo released titles).
The next shot is my media room downstairs:
This is where I keep most of my movies, and my Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii collection. What surprises most people is that I don't do a lot of gaming down here when I do play. I mostly play upstairs. Downstairs gets used most when I have company over.
Here's a shot with the screen down covering the posters:
Also, for reference, here's another shot of what this room looked like when I bought the house 7 years ago:
I only made some minor renovations :D Hopefully, those asking for requests in my requests threads can see why I always talk about not having a lot of spare time for scans, too busy working (at work and on the house :)
Here's a closer shot of the games in this downstairs room:
Here's a photo of the opposite side of the room.
This is one of my dogs wondering why I'm taking a bunch of photos of "his" house. Back in the left corner is where I keep the equipment for this room. It was the hallway to go into the kitchen, but I sealed off the other end and blocked it with the new staircase I had built.
This is a closer shot of the space:
Game-wise, I only have a Xbox 360 and Sega Dreamcast permanently hooked up. I'll rotate other systems in when/if I want to play those downstairs.
The next photo is of the garage I mentioned earlier. This is where I keep my "larger" games :) The interior, I haven't touched yet. It's one of the things on my small list of what's left to rehab/restore. But, I have at least finished the exterior, so I'll show that first so you can at least get an idea of what the inside will look when finished:
That's the before after I finished scraping all of the years of loose paint, at least as much of it as I could get off. This is how the exterior currently looks (still need to finish the door and reshingle the roof):
With that transformation in mind, on to the photo of the inside.
As I mentioned, these are my "larger" games :) Starting from the right, Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat II, Mortal Kombat 3 (currently running an Ultimate MK3 board), Mortal Kombat 4, Killer Instinct, Killer Instinct, and Killer Instinct 2. I've restored all of these except for the Killer Instinct in the middle. I disconnected the JAMMA board and controls (but left them in tact so they can be easily restored) and wired it up to a PC. As I also mentioned, ignore the mess for now, since in the winter, I prioritize parking my car to sheid it from the ice and snow over playing anything, especially given the lack of temperature control. Also, a lot of my construction items get shoved to the closest side (though, as I finish projects, the piles of materials and tools have started to dwindle, which is great). This interior hasn't been the priority, and it probably won't be completed until late 2011/2012, as time and money permits.
That's all of the photos I have. Feel free to stop by my scan request thread (linked in my signature) if there's a scan of anything in my collection that is needed (and no, I definitely don't think I'm up to scanning the arcade units :)

NICE, getting good ideas how to built my own house when I get around doing it.
And I mean actually building a house from scratch with no other limitations except money, BIG LIMITATION.
-
WAO man :o, just wao.
you have a nice collection going there, the only Arcade machines i have are a Killer Instinct one and a Neo Geo Metal Slug one, and i was thinking about selling them up until now, maybe ill keep them until i buy a new house. but i see you did great job man. would like to see how your house looks like when everithing is finished.
-
O M G! That's is really a gaming house! O M G! You have a real size Jack Skellington!
Now i know how i want to my house looks like.
-
HOLY CRAP. This is awesome! If I ever get a house big enough, this is what I want it to look like ;D
-
Wow dude! Im insanely jealous!
I couldnt help but notice you have the box for Lagoon for the SNES! We dont have that one the site yet and I happen to need it too aswell as others. Any chance you could scan that for me sometime? 600dpi would be really appreciated for that one if possible! :)
And as for you missing the back for Saturn Bomberman, Im pretty sure I can whip up a back insert for you using scans I found online. There not the highest of quality but if its the only game you dont have a back for, it will definetly do the job untill something better comes along!

Peachwaffle's private covers has that, it is OK, but bit dark.

Is it bad that the thing that I'm most jealous of in your collection is your Collector's Edition Mass Effect 1? :D Regardless, your house is absolutely beautiful. I'm so jealous. And you have an amazing collection and such a tidy setup!
Peachwaffle's private covers has that, it is OK, but bit dark.
That's because it was made from the label, and I wanted a temporary cover until I could get a scan of the box. (Same with Arcana and Brain Lord.) ._.

drool .... simply amazing collection!

You have an awesome collection and an awesome house, but what I liked the best was this shot above. The indoor stairs with the cast iron hand rails, the wooden parquet floors, and the color scheme of the walls are all a great touch! You, sir, have a great eye for design and should be very proud!
-
Not to forget a life-sized Jack Skellington. Fits the style of your house perfectly :) That's a really great collection and a very nice setup altogether.
I'm particularly envy of your arcade collection. If they were running and I came over for a visit you'd have to call the police to escort me from the premise :)
-
Damn, that's a beautiful collection.
Looks like you've got a great screen and speakers there. Why haven't you made the jump to Blu-Ray?
I'm going to show my friend all those Mortal Kombat cabs. We just finished playing on an MKII at a local pizza place. He's gonna flip. ;D

Would this scan of manual's front help:

I'll get that scanned today for you. I had spot checked my SNES collection against the approved covers and raw scans, and didn't see anything obvious that was missing, hence why I didn't call out what I had in my scan thread. I'll update the scan thread with a full list of available NTSC-U SNES games I have on hand that I can scan, but offhand, checking against what I found on the site, this is what I quickly noticed I had that didn't already seem to be here:
Addams Family
Lagoon
MechWarrior
SimEarth
Super Off Road
Tetris 2

Thanks! Of the whole interior remodel (which we consider complete except for slapping a coat of paint on the walls in the old cellar), the reconfiguration of the staircase was the largest undertaking. The house was built in 1895, and had no original full staircase to access the upper living space. One was added at a later date (from what we could gather from the history of the home, perhaps the 20's or 30's), though, was added in a manner to minimize the amount of re-framing. Here's a shot of the original staircase we were presented with 7 years ago:
The staircase was actually tucked behind that wall. So, if you go through the hallway on the left, and do a 180 spin, the staircase was directly behind you, as you can see in this photo:
It was incredibly steep, and incredibly narrow, to the point where, yes, you could physically get upstairs, though, you couldn't physically get any furniture upstairs.
A friend of mine is a general contractor who specializes in historic homes, and I also was introduced through others an architect who also specialized in historic homes. Then I have another friend who does custom iron working. So, between all of us, and my penchant for something completely one-off and unique that fit our style, we came up with this:
Needless to say, we were very happy with the end result. It completely changed the entire house, making the entire downstairs and upstairs seem more open and inviting.
Looks like you've got a great screen and speakers there. Why haven't you made the jump to Blu-Ray?
I was parked firmly in the HD DVD camp. So, it was a bit disconcerting watching the Blu-Ray consortium continue to buy up studios to entirely lockout the better of the two products (my opinion). Plus, I still hold a grudge against Sony after they choked the Dreamcast's 3rd party support (again, my opinion). I'm a huge Sega fan if you couldn't have already figured out :) There's not a single Sony product owned in my family, and it will stay that way if I have anything to do with it :) As far as HD video is concerned, my HD DVD player's upscale DVD's like a champ, so after upgrading my CEDs to VHS, and my VHS to LaserDiscs, and my LaserDiscs to DVD, and my DVDs to what was available in HD DVD, with the advent of Netflix's HD streaming and the HD Zune titles, I've called it quits as far as doing another round of upgrades for my physical movie mediums.

:'( I think i'm gonna go look for a 2nd job now...

I don't know, I firmly believe that the DC's failure has a lot more to do with the astoundingly poor performance of the Saturn than with Sony. That's just the way I've always seen it, that the whole Saturn early launch thing probably haunts Sega still to this day... I'd really hate to have been the guy that gave that plan the green light.

I think the Dreamcast, as awesome as the hardware was (built in modem, with later broadband expansion, the VMUs that let you take your games on the road, HD output with the VGA box, etc), had a lot of things working against it. The lack of 3rd party support, the rampant piracy (I was in college at the time of release, and of all of my friends with a Dreamcast, I was the only one that ever bought any games).
Also, I'll be the first to agree that Sega definitely isn't blameless. They had built a house where the left hand wasn't communicating with the right hand, in that, Sega USA and Sega Japan were developing competing hardware. For example, the whole Sega Saturn vs Sega Jupiter(the dedicated 32bit cartridge system, not to be confused with the also never released Neptune that was an integrated Genesis/32X system).
http://portal.segasaturno.com/primeras-informaciones-directamente-desde-sega-japon-de-vt4234.html (http://portal.segasaturno.com/primeras-informaciones-directamente-desde-sega-japon-de-vt4234.html)
Then you also had the Sega USA's Saturn 2 versus Japan's Katana (Dreamcast):
http://forums.sega.com/showthread.php?283954-1995-article-on-Lockheed-Martin-s-involvement-with-SEGA-(Model-3-arcade-Saturn-2) (http://forums.sega.com/showthread.php?283954-1995-article-on-Lockheed-Martin-s-involvement-with-SEGA-(Model-3-arcade-Saturn-2))
The entire fiasco that was the unreleased Virtua Fighter 3 for Saturn was borderline ridiculous. Case in point:
http://forums.hidden-palace.org/viewtopic.php?t=2801&sid=109d878cd9cfeb3e36af1791667a2378 (http://forums.hidden-palace.org/viewtopic.php?t=2801&sid=109d878cd9cfeb3e36af1791667a2378)
To where they even had a dedicated add-on developed for the cartridge port (similar to the 32X for the Genesis) that never saw the light of day:
http://www.segasaturno.com/portal/files/posted_images/2/virtua_figher3_saturn.jpg
To this day, I'm still confused why no US Saturn games used the expansion port (like the Japanese King of Fighters game that used a dedicated cartridge), like in Japan where they had the 4MB Ram expansion cart. I never could understand why I had to import games like X-Men Vs Street Fighter, and all of the great Capcom games that where near arcade perfect, and the US was left with shoddy stripped down versions for the PSX. They had designed a very powerful piece of hardware in the Saturn, that I'll agree, was killed off way to early to make room for the Dreamcast. I still have fond memories of my friends and I playing endless hours of Virtual-On for Sega Saturn over our Sega Netlink modems with our imported Twin Sticks (that still works to this day, thanks to the direct dial multiplayer mode).
-
I knew the saturn was kind of a market disaster and there was some internal issues between Sega USA and Sega Japan, but I never knew it went that far.
I've actually only recently been digging into Sega, being largely a Nintendo fan growing up. It's a whole new world for me really.
-
I can't speak for Tsolfan, but I didn't start seriously building my collection until I turned about 18/19 or so (so about two/three years ago). I'd always bought older games of course, but I used to trade games a LOT and have since kinda kicked that habit.
I won't worry too much about old games suddenly being too hard to find or expensive, game prices aren't a constant, they're very erratic. There are games that used to be worth TONS several years ago that have dropped a lot in price and vice versa. Final Fantasy VII jumped from $15 to like $50 and back down to around $30 for example.
Really my worry in your shoes wouldn't be price, but more along the lines of things like save batteries not working anymore that you'll have to replace, etc. That's not as bad as you think though, it just means that future game collectors will probably need to learn more and more about caring for, repairing, and restoring these sorts of things.
-
I think the day I started seriously collecting was the day Gamestop stopped buying back PS1 games. (Maybe 3-4 years ago? I dont really remember) Once I realized I couldn't get my hands on some older games because they werent available at retail, I stopped selling my stuff just in case I wanted to play it later. I stopped buying so often once I actually had my own money to spend online, so now my buying habits are mostly just oldies I never got to experience that I want to play.
-

Good man. I don't own any Sony products either, same reasons.
Oh wait, that's a lie now, my girlfriend got me a PS1 :p
I'll disown it as not paying for it.
I'm not pleased with the way Sony handled pushing Blu-Ray out, and HD-DVD had more promising features, but Blu-Ray did have a slight edge technologically when you really get down to it. Not terribly relevant to me though, I've got an Apple TV and have gone digital for all intents and purchases.
-
Sorry, too many good sony exclusives for me to avoid their systems entirely.
Didn't buy any of them new at least, so it's not like i'm actively supporting them or anything...
-
Sorry, too many good sony exclusives for me to avoid their systems entirely.
I agree with this 100%. I don't have a ps2, but even with the ps3 there are so many good games I would have been sad to miss out on (though I do have a similar dislike for Microsoft products, if I didn't have to run windows I wouldn't own a single Microsoft product).
But you do have a great collection, the arcade cabinets are what really caught my eye as that's something I won't be able to get my hands on until at least a few years after I get out of college.
-
Do you keep your game catalogued in any way? This is the solution that I came up with (link) (http://iantornay.com/Collection/index.php) - it's saved me from buying duplicates quite a few times!
-
Can I ask how you old were, or just when you (seriously) started this collection? I'm a little worried that by the time I get some real disposable income, all the older games I like will be too hard to find or too expensive :/
I'm currently 32. As a kid, my parents bougt my Odyssey and Nintendo games for my younger brother and I (had about 15 for each system), but after that, I was on my own. Rocking my Nintendo Power and EGM subscriptions, I knew the Genesis and Super Nintendo were on the horizon, and my parents let me sell what we had to fund picking those up.
I guess I had the luck of being able to buy most of the rarer games in my collection, like the Sega Saturn titles, when they were still SRP or less at the local Babbages, like Shining Force and Panzer Dragoon Saga, and picking up a lot of games when FuncoLand started liquidating their games as each previous generation got phased out.
It wasn't until I graduated college and got a full time job (about 10 years ago) when I started expanding my collections to include more of the games I could easily find on eBay, and I started with searching for lots, as I could usually get about 50 Dreamcast games for around $100, or about 20 Sega Saturn games or so for around $100. I would budget for about a lot or two a month. When it got to the point where lots were giving me too many duplicates, I sold off all of the duplicates in their own unique lots, and recycled those funds into buying the single titles I needed.
I found it was too expensive for my tastes to try and buy each game individually, so the cost savings by finding lots and then re-selling what I didn't need to help offset the costs when I eventually got to where single title auctions were the only option and helped out immensely.
It took me about 2 years to 'fill out' my Sega CD, Saturn, and Dreamcast and Atari Jaguar games. I've recently started filling out my Super Nintendo and Nintendo 64 collections to include some more games that I always wanted, but couldn't afford to pick up at the time when the systems were current. I started that about 6 months ago, and have about 10 games for each system I'd still like to pick up, which, I'm a Cheap Ass Gamer, so I always go for auctions for a Buy It Now that's actually fair market value.
If I was to guess (for my more recent eBay activity, I could pull actual numbers), I'd say, I spent approximately $1500 on a complete Sega Dreamcast collection, probably about the same on Sega CD, and probably closer to $2000 on Sega Saturn. That sounds like a lot (and I don't deny that it is), but over the course of 10 years filling those out, that's about $500 a year, under $50 a month, so not anything that anyone else couldn't budget for. You just have to have a lot of patience. That's a lot more affordable that say, if I actually tried to buy all of the Dreamcast games as they were released at $50 each (which I couldn't have, else I would had to have dropped out of college and lost my lease on my apartment :)
Speaking of Cheap Ass Gamer, I'm an avid reader over there, not so much an active poster, but it's how I've built my current Xbox 360 and Wii collections. I don't mind being a few months behind the curve, and I clean house on the Gamefly sales (thinking back on the past month or so, I picked up games like Darksiders, Nier, Assassins Creed 2, Metroid: Other M, Aliens Vs Predator, Singularity, Transformers: War for Cybertron, all for about $10 a piece) and when NewEgg basically starts throwing games away for $10 a piece (like Splinter Cell: Conviction and Lost Planet 2 as of late).
Thus far, the most I've ever spent on a "classic" game is Keio's Flying Squadron for Sega CD, which I got about a year ago for $100. The most I've ever spent on a current gen game is $150 on the Amazon.com Exclusive edition of Fallout 3 with the lunch box and Pipboy (I was a huge Fallout fan on the PC, so, they totally played on my emotions with that one :)
Sorry, too many good sony exclusives for me to avoid their systems entirely.
I don't deny there are some great games on Sony systems, though, I think I can afford to miss a few, as I have to prioritize my game time :) But, fortunately, through either a sequel or a remake, I've had a chance to play a few (Symphony of the Night on Xbox Live, Metal Gear Solid on Gamecube, etc).
Do you keep your game catalogued in any way? This is the solution that I came up with (link) (http://iantornay.com/Collection/index.php) - it's saved me from buying duplicates quite a few times!
I use Google Docs. I compiled a "complete" list of games for each of the systems I have, and I keep a separate spreadsheet for each. It probably won't look correct here, but they all look like the following:
Owned Prior Multi Total Title Developer Publisher Loose Scratch
1 X Addams Family, The Ocean Software Ocean Software
2 X Alien³ Probe Software Acclaim Entertainment
3 X Batman Returns Konami Konami
4 X X Donkey Kong Country Rare Nintendo
Even though I don't have, and don't plan on ever having a complete collection for say, Super Nintendo, I still have all of the games in my spreadsheet, just to have them there.
I use the "Prior" column for games I had in my "best of collection" I bought as I was growing up, before I graduated college and started expanding my collections into either complete (for the Sega systems) or games I always wanted to have but couldn't afford at the time (for the Nintendo systems, and other systems with much larger libraries). I used the Multi column to flag a title I had multiple copies of, and the Total column to track how many copies. Those columns helped when it came time for a "duplicate purge" from buying up lots. I also used my "loose" and "scratch" columns, because sometimes, I'd end up with a mint disc loose, but find a mint case with a horrid disc, so I could make a mint complete copy cheaper than actually buying a mint complete copy.
-
Ah that's reassuring, for a minute there I thought you bought most of these at retail price; the way you've gone about it makes a lot more sense, and sounds like a hobby that's quite a bit of fun. I'm actually from the opposite camp myself though, I'm a playstation fanboy as that's what I was raised on (ever since seeing final fantasy 8 when I was 11 or so) so the vast majority of my paltry collection is ps1, ps2 and ps3. My pc and steam games are a little less than half of my collection but they aren't as flashy as a stack of physical cases. I'm gonna start bolstering my ps1 and ps2 collections in the summer from lots once I get a job again after classes end for the semester - and we won't have to compete hehe.
By the way, I linked this thread/gallery to reddit.com, and can say that as of right now at least 431 people approve of your collection : ) maybe with all the traffic we can get some more newbies like me to join and get some more scans *crosses fingers*
This explains why there are 2500 guests in the forums at the moment... ;)

I thought you where kidding, but no! ;D
Hope they provide good scans and covers, especially for NES and SNES.
At least these are required, see first post:

My first console was a PS1 I got for free from my cousin, so that's where my fanboyism comes from. I've always loved developers like Naughty Dog and Insomniac, and Metal Gear Solid is one of my favorite game series up there with Metroid. I really can't hate Sony/Microsoft/Nintendo, because they don't make all the games that are sold on their consoles. I'd be missing out on too much awesome stuff if I did that.
It's interesting that you bought a lot of your games in lots. That's honestly something I haven't tried out, but I think it's a great idea. I can personally say I've bought 99.9% of my games used. I'd rather spend $60 and get 6-7 awesome games used than get one new.

I guess partly because you seem like someone who kids around here (all in good spirits) and wouldn't get offended if I teased you a bit. Secondly, when I think of NES or SNES on this site I kinda think of you (the 2 consoles you seem to like/want/need the most). So when I had to pick someone who I thought would defend SNES as the top viewed thread, I picked you. If another system was #1, like Dreamcast I'd think shenske or Sega CD I'd think Vt102 (glad he's back) but I don't know if they'd get offended or not (although I wouldn't think so).
I'm going to try and make it up to you. I know someone who said he has a lot of boxed NES games that he said I can scan a couple weeks from now. Hopefully I can get some you need. :)

Awesome collection man, you're an inspiration to collectors everywhere. Your story about being such a big Sega fan sounds pretty similar to mine. I scrimped and saved for months to buy my Genesis, and once I had enough saved up to buy a Sega CD that was my second big purchase as a kid.
I've also been using the "lot" method to fill in my Sega CD collection too, but I find going through Craigslist is just as productive. My big weakness though is the Working Designs games, they made it way to easy to be collectible. I've got a complete set of all 7 Lunar variants for the Sega CD, all 4 Dragon Force variants (with stickers), both Albert Odyssey discs, and each of the 3 different copies of Rayearth; it's kind of crazy, but they did an awesome job on those Sega CD/Saturn games. They blow the packaging of almost every other game for those systems out of the water.

The Reddit comments are hilaroius, and I must say, I've learned a lot.
http://www.reddit.com/r/gaming/comments/ev6bg/incredible_game_collection/ (http://www.reddit.com/r/gaming/comments/ev6bg/incredible_game_collection/)
Apparently, the next time someone asks for pictures of my game collection that I post to a forum subtitled "Show off pictures of your fully cased collection", to satisfy the anonymous Internet masses, that meant I should have taken detailed photos of all 13 rooms of our house, including copies of our marriage certificate and our kid's birth certificate.
My mistakes, hopefully you guys/girls all learn from them :D
And, yes, I have a wonderful wife that let me have creative control over "my" office and "my" living room, though, to be fair, she has "her" office and "her" living room, and her library of books starts in our master bedroom and spills across 3 rooms (and she left her Nook on my Dreamcast shelf, so I guess that makes it 4), so in the end, she wins :)
Also, quite a few people seemed genuinely concerned that I don't own any Sony hardware, and that my life will somehow be incomplete. At the end of the day, there are too many games/books/movies/life experiences for all of us to ever partake in, so we eventually have to narrow our focus. I've done just that. Though, everyone can once again sleep peacefully in knowing that, yes, I do have friends that over the years have owned/still own Sony video game hardware, and yes, I have played games on them (the shock, the horror :) But let it be said, after growing up on Pool of Radiance, Curse of the Azure Bonds and Secret of the Silver Blades for Commodore 64, as well as Legacy of the Ancients for Commodore 64, I've already played the best of the best, everything else is just a bonus (Panzer Dragoon Saga was a great one at that).
Oh, and for those that think I "hoard" these games, I have friends that flat out gave me the Sega games they owned to contribute, as it was a goal among friends to build the Sega collections. I just happened to have the space and had the spare $100 a month of disposable income over the years to go towards finishing it. My collection (and my wife's book collection) is an open collection, in that, my friends and family and friend of the family and neighbors are all free to borrow anything (in fact, I've got a "loaner" Dreamcast and Saturn left over from some of my lots), with only two rules. You only borrow the game/movie/book (not the case/dust jacket), and it gets returned in the condition it left, else you just bought it :)

So TSOLfan, what's you're take on the various rumors of Sega someday re-entering the console biz? (Talking about RingEdge and stuff like that).

I just noticed the small stack of booster boxes of Magic card. I'm just getting back into the game after being away for 10 years.

So TSOLfan, what's you're take on the various rumors of Sega someday re-entering the console biz? (Talking about RingEdge and stuff like that).
I definitely would find that interesting to see what new territory they might try to chart, as it seems a lot of their ideas with the Saturn and Dreamcast were expanded upon in this current generation (with both the Saturn and Dreamcast having Internet connectivity for multi-player and Web Browsers with the Dreamcast also using it for downloadable content for games, the Dreamcast having a VGA hookup for HDTVs, and the Dreamcast VMUs that let you take a portion of your game and play away from home and sync back up changes (Sony looks to have done this with the PSPs Remote Play and Microsoft with the Windows Phone 7 platform)).
Though, honestly, I don't see it happening. They've churned out quite a bit of hardware since the Dreamcast/Naomi days, as you can see here:
http://www.system16.com/museum.php?id=1
And with every new arcade hardware revision/release, there's always a rumor it's a new Dreamcast/Naomi (home console/arcade variant), that is never substantiated.
I just noticed the small stack of booster boxes of Magic card. I'm just getting back into the game after being away for 10 years.
I had a cousin that bought these things called Magic cards with black borders dubbed Beta, because they had cool artwork. I shrugged it off, as the last cards I had bought for artwork were years before that where the Marvel Universe Series II cards (not a card game) and TSR cards (also not a card game).
Though, by the time the Dark rolled around, they had peaked my interest, and I picked up some packs and built a Goblin deck with Goblin Caves and Goblin Shrines. I never bought a ton of packs, and usually traded for cards I wanted. I called it quits in high school after Fallen Empire, which I did enjoy for the Goblin Grenades :) I still have that Goblin deck, but got rid of my other cards (I had maybe, 100-200 tops, all red and black, any rare came from a pack, most were commons I picked up for 25 cents).
A couple of years ago, when 10th edition was coming out, my friends and I had the bright idea to go in on some boxes of boosters and see what the game was like these days. As you can see, so far, we've yet to get around to opening them, but we did manage to pick up Duels of the Planeswalkers on Xbox Live, which was fun (I know they released DLC expansions, though, I haven't picked any up).

This collection deserves a bump.
Gorgeous house man! Not only your games, Jack and everything but you did a great job on the wood flooring and the iron stairway.
My wife and I are buying a house in the coming months and then the collection starts! I can't wait.
I was such a full I gave/resold most of my games up until the recent generation of consoles (I'm 31) so I have to restart form scratch.
I see all your games seem to be mint in box. Did you have issues getting them like that since you bought in bulk?
-

Thanks for the compliments, we've worked hard on this place (and continue to do so).
Since the winter is long gone, I decided to post a picture of the "cleaned up" garage. It's in the queue to get scraped and painted on the inside in the next couple of months.
I had to clean things up for the Mortal Kombat tournament at our place. With the release of the new MK, I had a garage open house and worked with the local comic shop to promote it. We had a tournament on MK1-4 in the garage, set the machines for 50 cents per play, best 2 out of 3, and after each match, the machine was reset. The winner of each tournament took home what was in the cash box below. To be fair, I excluded myself, and I set all of the machines to free play for the first hour so people could practice. Here's a shot from where a few showed up extra early (when I still had the KI machines on):
We wrapped up the evening with a tournament for the new MK where the grand prize was a copy of the game for Xbox 360. Given that the game had just come out, we used the two TVs upstairs and the screen downstairs to run three stations so people could get in as much practice. For the main MK tournament, to be fair to all, I again excluded myself, and we went for a double elimination bracket, with the last match being best 3 out of 5.
Here's a quick shot I took of the final match (Ermac player vs Scorption player):
Needless to say, a good time was had by all, and even though I didn't get my play time, I always enjoy getting my collection out there in the hands of others (as I mentioned in an earlier post, I collected it to share, not to hoard).
I see all your games seem to be mint in box. Did you have issues getting them like that since you bought in bulk?
Actually, the ones I picked up in bulk fared the best. It was always the individuals that I seemed to have problems with, such as sellers throwing Sega CD or Sega Saturn games in a bubble envelop, and that's it. Those would almost always arrive with broken hinges. Also, I don't know what it was about N64 sellers, but, I received so many of those also just in a bubble envelop, so the boxes arrived crushed. The auctions I got in lots, they always came in a larger box, so less damage. I had won this one SNES lot where the seller meticulously unfolded every box flat to ensure they'd arrive without damage. It surprised me when it arrived, because the box was so small.
Unfortunately, when I sold off the extra games from lots I didn't want (to recycle the funds into picking up individuals), I hadn't come across this site yet, else I could have scanned a few extra boxes. Hopefully, none of these were too sought after:
That was a lot I sold off in August of last year. August and September is when I purged all of my duplicates for Sega systems and titles I didn't want for the others.
-
That sounds like it was a fun day! It's all Smash Bros in my room, but we end up having impromptu tournaments all the time because our door is always open. :)
-
Hopefully, none of these were too sought after:
Ren and Stimpy maybe and Chase H.Q, and that one between Bubsy and Choplifter, and the Choplifter, and Mansell

That's 50+ lbs worth of donated Nintendo manuals spanning Nintendo through Nintendo 64, as well as a sizable chunk of Gameboy Advance manuals.
So, my "OTHER" section will start to have quite a few more things show up in addition to my personal Nintendo collection worth of stuff that's already there :D

I never saw these pics until today, very nice setup and great work on the house. Do you have any updated pics since it's been a couple years or does it all look pretty much the same? By the way, I also love checking ratigators.com (http://ratigators.com) whenever I need a cover that I can't find here.

Thanks.
Everything looks pretty much the same, just a few changes here or there. The equipment area downstairs, swapped out the receiver a couple of years ago with a Pioneer Elite SC-27, and the dual HDMI out comes in handy, as I wall mounted a monitor on the wall in there, that way if I want to do things like 360 updates or something, I don't have to click on the projector, I can just flip on that monitor and do what I need to do. I've been itching to upgrade my receiver again for a while, especially since the new Elite's offer triple HDMI out. I planned on going all digital with the Xbox One (my next gen system of choice, I blindly follow Killer Instinct) and would use the 3rd HDMI out to run to the display upstairs (that has all of my other gaming consoles).
I also swapped out my DVD Audio player (yes, I bought into that format, and finally found a deal on one that output via HDMI so I no longer needed 6 separate analog cables just for audio like my original one) and it sits on top of the cassette deck, and on top of it is my Wii U and Neo Geo X (yes, I bought into that as well, with high hopes of miniaturized AES hardware ala Sega Nomad/Sega CDX so I didn't have to lug my AES downstairs all the time for World Heroes 2 Deathmatch, and was left disappointed with a half baked emulator).
The game shelves downstairs, moved the Wii games upstairs, and the 360 games have hit overflow and have been landing in the drawers in the tables in the media room downstairs until I have time to think of a better idea (not too long ago, hit 300 360 games, though, not sure if that's something to admit to :)
Upstairs, nothing much has changed, other than the row of Neo Geo AES titles on top of my Xbox and Atari Jaguar shelves, and getting caught up on a few Gamecube releases I missed out on originally (such as all of the Mario sports titles) That, and much to my wife's chagrin, two more 200 count record crates that sit on top of the ones that were already there (to the left of the mini-couch in the first photo). Though, I do share her sentiment, as it blocks that much more of the handrail, but LPs were piling up and I was running out of places to stash them.
Oh, and going back and looking at that first photo, we did finally source a piece of antique glass large enough that matched some of the other glass in the house to replace the temporary piece of safety glass we were using (when we bought the house, it just had a piece of clear Plexiglas in the window, and we replaced it with that "white" safety glass to give our daughter a bit of privacy). Don't have a new photo of it installed, but I do have a photo of the glass itself:

A vast majority of my free time has been sunk into restoring the front porch, which was the last big project on our exterior list (the interior list was long since crossed off). Trust me, it needed it. The original decking was half missing and replaced with plywood and the entire thing covered in outdoor carpet to hide the fact, the rail was questionably attached to the columns, and a number of columns were suspect.
Warning, complete lack of video game discussion to follow.
Here's a good single shot closeup of how things looked before we started (and had been this way since we bought the place):
First we removed all of the decking and braced up the entire porch ceiling, and once we had that out of the way, removed the rails:
So that we could then remove the columns. That's when things got scary (structurally), like, this sort of scary:
Granted, it moved off the base a bit as we were taking out other columns, but that big gaping hole was covered by a piece of metal being used as a patch and simply painted over to match. Thankfully, there were a number of columns on that side of the porch, so it wasn't holding everything up on it's own.
We also removed all of the capitals and stripped them and realized, as much as we wanted to save them, they were going to have to be replaced:
I hung on to that one, which was the only one that came down in a single piece. Most came down in 2 pieces or more, as when the were originally installed, or some time after that, someone used some huge nails and ran them through the capital and into the top of the porch (where that big hole came from in the one above), I guess to keep them in place, which did a number of splitting most of the capitals, and they were only kept in "one" piece by paint and pressure.
I found a guy that was able to cast new capitals and had that done, and had a friend that's a master carpenter, and he totally hooked us up with the column restoration (for a fee of course):
New bases being built (the existing ones were mostly no longer originals, and were in poor shape and ended up in the trash):

Thankfully, nearly 2 years into it (started ripping things apart October 2011), the porch project is finally coming to a close (new brick foundation, all new framing, new curved upper knee wall, restored columns, restored rails, replacement recasted capitals, new custom milled decking to match the pieces of the original decking that were left, and don't get me started on the 200+ pieces of "blocks" I had to cut, sand, paint and install for the dental molding):

They were in the house once upon a time, as the garage was totally full of construction equipment while we were working on the interior of the house (these days, the garage is nice and tidy). I originally only had two machines, MK II and KI1, the two games I sunk the most time in during high school. They were in my office when it was downstairs before I moved it upstairs when we finished the upstairs.
And before that, they were in the living room before we started working on the living room, and we were working on the bedroom at the time, so the living room became the temporary bedroom, and the two games became pseudo night stands, and my wife found that she could rest a cup on the MK II control panel and it would stay in place due to the arrangement of the HP/HK/Block buttons that made a "cup cradle" and that always drove me nuts :)
-

Some days we still do, when my friends and I decide to have double elimination tournament brackets. We do best 2 out of 3 matches (not rounds), and the machines are set to 50 cents. So, to win a round, you could spend as little as 50 cents while the loser might pay up to $1. When it's the next round, we reset the machine so both new combatants have to pay up. The further you make it, also the further your cash investment.
The "final" match we always do best 3 out of 5, since the winner takes home all of the cash in the cashbox.
And actually, with the new KI coming out, we will be having another tournament on KI1, then KI2 and then KI3. When we will have it is currently up in the air, either November or March (March is when the full "Season 1" roster will have been released, and my brother always used Fulgore as his main (I used Orchid in KI1, and Jago in KI2), so he'll probably want us to wait).

So, despite not being game-related, I'm pretty interested in how the porch came out ;D

I'd say it's 85% done. We still have 2 "half" columns that were mounted against the house (hence why they were half split in half vertically) that need to be reattached, the front gutters reinstalled (it's a rounded gutter to fit a curved porch that I had to custom order that arrived in a plywood crate as large as one of my Midway units), and the the rails also reinstalled.
Historically, the home didn't have railing, and matched the rest of the homes on our block (porches with columns, but no rails), but at some point in the past 120 years (well, 110, since we've owned the place for the past 10) they showed up, and they were added long enough ago that they were built as if they would have been there originally, and we did enjoy them (helped to corral both kids and dogs) so they will eventually be making a reappearance. I had hoped this year still, but looks like they won't be finished until next Spring.
I'll try and snap some comparison pics to line up with the old photos I shared as soon as the weather improves. Between today and tomorrow, the high is dropping about 25 degrees Fahrenheit, and with the low comes a chance for snow.

It's fairly cold and overcast today, so they aren't as bright and sunny as the "before" photos, but I'm sure the comparisons still get the point across.
