Title: ***PLEASE READ*** How to Make a Request
Post by: Doom on October 29, 2010, 09:15:13 PM
It's in your interest to follow these guidelines. Many of our artists specialize in a single platform and if they don't see your post, they won't know what we are missing. A single standard makes it easier for an artist to see your post.

Retail vs. Custom

First, you must know if you're looking for a "retail" or "custom" cover. This (http://www.thecoverproject.net/view.php?cover_id=11396) is a "retail" cover. It attempts to duplicate the original cover or box, even though it may put the cover design in a new template.. This (http://www.thecoverproject.net/view.php?cover_id=11391) is a "custom" cover. It may or may not use the retail cover as a guide, but the cover was created using a graphics program, not a scanner.

Using this Forum

If you're looking for custom covers or artwork, post HERE (http://www.thecoverproject.net/forums/index.php?board=17.0). Follow the title guidelines, and explain what you're looking for in your post.

Title guidelines:
Name of Game - Platform - Region of Cover Design - [short description of desired cover/art] - Raws

Example usage:
Ico - PS2 - NA - JPN to NA - Raws
What the title means: A custom cover for the North American version and template for the game Ico. I want the Japanese art work on the cover. I have included the Japanese and NA covers in the post.
Super Mario Galaxy - Wii - NA - Art Swap - Raws
What the title means: I want you to take some high resolution SMG art and use it on the cover. The original cover and art I want used are included.
When a Request is Completed

When your request is completed by a helpful member of the community, please do your part to make sure others have the same luck. To make it easier for fellow members of The Cover Project to see requests, please add "Done -" (no ***asterisks***) to the beginning of your topic upon the finishing of the request. If adding "Done -" is not possible without changing the title, you should shorten it to make room. After all, the request is finished, what's there to lose?

Example:

Done - Wii - Wii Play - US

NOTE - If you have multiple requests, please open only one topic and list all you request within that thread.

Bumping

If you're lucky you'll get a cover right away, but it can take months if no one has what you're looking for. To give your request another chance to be noticed, you may "bump" a post. The rules for doing this are as follows:

1. A "bump" is any post with little to no information about a request. Examples of this are "bump" or "can anyone do this?"
2. You are only allowed to bump a topic when is is off of the first page of the request list. One page is 20 threads. When yours is the 21st thread, and moved to the second page, you may bump it.
3. Consecutive bumps are not allowed. Delete your prior bumps in a thread (if any) before making a new bump.

Notes

You should elaborate on what you want in the post body.

Keep in mind that many of the regulars around here buy boxes simply to contribute to this project. Please show a little respect towards the people that have invested a lot of time and hard work into this project.

Weird, when I accessed the wiki, it had lots of periods and it was just empty.  Does that mean it was hacked again?

Can anyone do a custom cover for a DVD movie, or is it strictly video games?

Wrong place to ask, but I'll answer anyway.

We do game covers.
On rare occasions someone might make replacement movie cover.

Yes.

It was not used in long time and has slipped to oblivion.

You mean the part where I was referred to a broken link, or the part where I read about the broken link being hacked 30 times, or the part where I read to just go ahead an post in this thread?  Where I clicked on a link labled "here" and ended up exactly here, where I posted?  If I posted somewhere I wasn't supposed to, maybe redirect me and be helpful instead of being sarcastic.

Link not dead.  Clear instructions.

Perhaps before flying off the handle at an admin (or any other member) you should take their original nudge and do some ground work.

Reading through this thread is a little confusing for a newbie, and I don't want to get it wrong, so can I just check - do I just need to start a new thread and say which retail requests I would like?

Thanks very much

Yes, start a thread in the request forum, stating which system, region and game it is you want.  And case type if applicable.

So I wanted to upload 4 covers that I have for the Sega Master System:

Rampage
World Grand Prix
Great Football
Pro Wrestling

But I can't upload them :( the name of the game isn't in the listing. What would be proper protocol to get those games added to the category so I can upload my covers? Thanks in advance :D
Title: Re: ***PLEASE READ*** How to Make a Request

It depends.
1: Use next game in alphabet if you are 100% sure the quality is absolutely perfect.
2: If even bit iffy upload to Mediafire or Box and link to the boards.

I strongly suggest option 2 as if not 100% perfect ready cover, it will be deleted and nothing more id ever heard of it.
With oprtion 2someone can still download it and help you perfect it.

Here's the forum link with the official upload instructions that explains the process pretty well: http://www.thecoverproject.net/forums/index.php?topic=21241.0

I would definitely suggest uploading the covers to mediafire before uploading to the main site. That way you can receive constructive criticism and find out what changes you may need to make. The requirements to get on the main site are super strict, and if you're cover isn't accepted, there's a more than fair chance the admins won't let you know why. If you post it to the forums first, you'll be better informed about the quality of your cover in regards to the site requirements. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the info! With these covers, they're just raws - 600 DPI and will require modification to get them to that 'perfect" standpoint. I won't be changing them myself, but they can be used to get a perfect product by another individual.

I'll look into dropping them into the appropriate area for people to do what they want with. It doesn't concern me past this point, just wanted to share what I had with the world lol.

New raw scans are always welcome. As mentioned, upload them to a file sharing service such as box or mediafire and post the link to the Raw Scans section of the forum here: http://www.thecoverproject.net/forums/index.php?board=5.0 and someone will eventually clean them up and prepare them to be used on the main site. Thanks!

Oh raws, OK nice.
Those we really need for certain games.
Do share them with Box or Mediafire, Google drive or such should work too.
Photobucket and such tend to compress the images fucking them up.

THANK YOU.

I have a question.  I have 153 PC games that I either have disc only or only with the original jewel case (and no box, etc).  Can I make a post to see if anyone has or can do any of them?  I understand asking for all of them is too much but I'll take anything I can get.  Hell, I'll even take just generic custom cases with artwork found on google or whatever.  Just need to get these games in DVD cases and up on a shelf!  :D

So let me know what's proper here.  I found this site out from Seth but I have no idea what his username is here.  :(

That would be shenske.

Just make a thread detailing which is your preferred style, and list the games.  Be sure to check if they are on the site already first - there’s plenty hidden in the boards.

Thanks mate.   8)

I checked the Windows and DOS sections to grab a couple dozen but the remaining 153 I cannot locate.

Make a new topic in the request forum and just explain what it is you're looking for. People quite often request US style box art for Japanese games.

Hello, was wondering what's the best way to search for covers on these forums... If I type in the search bar, many posts that have nothing to do with some games pop up. ill be making a request in a new post, just wanted to see if all the games I wanted have been made or not. Thank You.

Using quotes helps.

I mean typing "super mario 2" gives less answers but they are more accurate than using super mario 2.

We encourage people to put the name of the cover or scan in when they post which obviously helps finding them.
