Title: Emergency Server Move
Post by: Snowcone on July 18, 2010, 09:53:22 AM
Sorry for the short notice, but I had to swing the site to a new server overnight due to recent resource usage. It's gonna take a while for the remaining 50GB of data to finish copying over. Hang tight if parts of the site seem a little off. I'll let you know when the data is all copied over.

I opened my email to tell you TCP was down*, forgot why I had it open, then 20 minutes later I decided to open TCP. Now I don't need to email you!

*taken down by you I now realize

Looks like you cant upload right now. I tried to update one of my covers I just submitted and got an error saying there was something wrong with the file I was uploading.

Hi Snowcone. I see the "index of uploads/raw" page looks different on the new server. Right now all you can see on a raw scan is the members name, retail and raw. You can't tell what game the scan is for. Is there any way to move "last modified, size and description" over to give more room for the "name" column?

Didn't want to bother you while switching everything over but figured it might be easy to make changes while you're already in the system working on it.

Thank you

@akrate69 I have to work on a better long term solution there as the script based directory listing solution I was using was a good portion of the need to move the server. If you mouse over a link, you can actually see the full filename.

I keep getting an upload error, too! hoping everything's okay with the site and it's just me having all the problems haha  ???

Still no go for me. Every few hours I try an upload just to see if the function is working. I was just thinking, I hope these test uploads aren't being saved (and will appear later) or I'll have uploaded the same raw scan a bunch of times.  :-[

it'll just be overwritten if it's the same filename

I just attempted to upload a custom cover a couple times as well, but with no luck.

I'll be eagerly awaiting the chance to upload my new Sega CD cover :D

Well I hope my upload hasn't been lost.

It still hasn't shown up on the site either.

But oh well I can wait.

Hey I was wondering how everything goes with the server move, cause it's been a while since new covers have been uploaded to the site.

Thats because were unable to upload covers right now. Not sure what the problem is but with a little patients Im sure well be back to normal.

I'm working on it. The "move" tool with our host wasn't quite as automated as I had hoped. I'm having to do a ton of reconfiguration on the hosting side. I hope to allow the admins to start reposting covers this week.

Once the kinks are worked out is there any plans to make the RAW section a bit more manageable (see: easier to find things)

At the very least be able to see the full filename without having to hover?

When you say filename, do you mean the one the site gives the picture, or the one that I gave the picture? Because I want to update "ps1_brokenswordsott_gb.jpg" that I uploaded, but the name I gave it was "DVD Broken Sword 1 PAL.jpg." I assume I have to change my updated version to the "ps1_brokenswordsott_gb.jpg" then pick all the same setting like when I uploaded the original, and then it should update, yes?

you don't have to change the name

Yes. The tool I had installed to make that more user friendly was eating up just as many resources as the main site so I had to kill it. I've got an alternate way to set that up though. Working on getting it implemented.

Nice, finally it is easy find what you're looking for.

Do the old links work, do we have to update them in the topics.

We weren't earlier when I tried.

Snowcone
In the raw PS2 folder the "Last Modified" and "Size" columns are so far to the right of the page, that it's creating a second line for each scan. Take a look and you'll see what I mean. I hate bothering you as I know you're working hard on the site but figured you'd want to know.

Even if it would be in the pipeline it could take days to months.

As we see fit (or better as we have time). ;D
