These DVD covers are based on the two different styles of TurboGrafx 16 jewel cases, the Orange and the Color Coded style.
They use the jewel case cover/instruction manual cover for the front and new custom screen shots for the back.
In addition to the DVD covers there is also the smaller 8-Disc Poly Case covers located here-
http://www.thecoverproject.net/forums/index.php?topic=5101.0
There is also a DVD cover template based on the original boxes and includes PCE games located here-

Setting up the Template
-There are two rear layouts in the file BL1 and BL2 (Back Layout 1 and 2) (Thanks to BadChad for BL2 layout)
-Tip use Ctrl ; (control and semicolon) to hide and show the guides
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Front
-Take your instruction manual cover and scan it at 600dpi be sure to have descreen checked, also see the scanning guide in the guides section of this site.
Tip 1- I put black paper behind the cover to make sure none of the text printed on the covers backside (page 0 and 1) scans through (this can be a problem especially when you start turning up the contrast and other color settings its also more apparent on light colored covers). Also the paper is larger than the cover and sticks out on three sides helping reduce bright edges (see tip 2)
Tip 2- Also putting a black T shirt or cloth over the entire cover before closing the lid can help reduce bright edges from light bleeding under the spine side (and other sides if you are not using tip 1) make sure there are no wrinkles and the cloth is flat.
Tip 3- I put a 2.5 pound weight on top of the scanner lid to help compress the cover down.
-Use the lens-correction tool with the grid on to rotate the cover square, you can also use Image Rotation- Arbitrary and use some guides to check for squareness keep in mind you can rotate .25degrees and lower even.
-Then Crop the cover, the easiest and most accurate way in my opinion is to drag some guides around it (with close magnification) and then use the selection tool with snap on to select. Then copy and paste to a new page.
-Touch the cover up with the clone stamp tool, basically get rid of dust and specks as well as damage or errors from printing (Tip - Use Ctrl and + and - to zoom in and out quickly). Zoom in and really scan for specks and stuff to fix. If you like you can also get rid of any TMs, and if its easy (such as a solid color) get rid of the NEC logo as well - we already have NEC located on the front in large white letters. In Most cases its too hard to get rid of and we will be covering the NEC and TG16 logos with high quality versions. Starting In Version 3 of the template it is a black NEC logo with a white boarder only, some had black and some had white in reality but we will use black on the cover since its white on the lower corner.
-Before Resizing be sure and save your full size touched up cover. Spend the time to name it something appropriate.
-Resize the image so it will fit in the 1180x1180 hole, when resizing be sure to have constrain proportions checked then type in 1180 into the smaller of the two numbers,Use bi-cubic sharper. This may result in an imperfect square, something like 1184x1180(example) but this is fine we don't want to stretch or pinch any thing if we don't have to and the cover template will cover the extra pixels.
-Place the new cover in the template above the default cover layer. you can move it around if you have extra pixels on one side, if you have the move tool selected you can use the arrow keys to move it one pixel at a time.
-Adjust the image and color a bit (brightness contrast saturation sharpen mainly) I've included an example cover with the template try and match that approximate color and sharpness
-Now place the new TG16 logo over the old and a new NEC logo over the old, if the nec logo is not covering the old 100% you can adjust the stroke and outer-glow size a few pixels or just erase the old one some with the clone stamp.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Getting Screenshots
First you need to use an emulator to get some new screen shots of the game 4 - 6 good ones I used magic engine.
With magic engine you can use the letter P to get a clean pause then hit Backspace for screen shot, also some times I hit the zero on the number pad to play games in slow motion so its easier to get a good shot, it also makes some games (like shooters) easier to reach the later levels in. Be sure to use save-states often, I sometimes need to play the game a few times to get good shots.
Screen shot Sizing
With template V3 we are using a 5 by 4 ratio. This is two sizes mainly 800x640 for large shots and 600x480 for small size. On BL1 (back layout 1) the cropped shot is large shot cropped to 800x480.
-Before resizing crop off unused areas of shot (like if there is a black bar/boarder on the bottom)
-To resize first you will need to double or triple the size using nearest neighbor then resize using the default bi-cubic to get the final size. For example say we have a standard size shot that is 256x239, for the large shot; first triple the size with nearest neighbor, percent 300 then resize again to 800x640 bi-cubic. You are getting the closest you can to the final size with nearest neighbor(constrained proportions) to keep the pixel look and keep the pixes proportioned properly then using bi-cubic for the stretching and hitting the final size. Some games have different resolutions and may need different settings to reach the proper size “do the math”
-Note--If we just resized once in bi-cubic it would get too blurry, if we just resized once in nearest neighbor to a non proportionate size you would get odd looking pixels and pixel tiling artifacts.
-Note--the reason i did not make a 4x3 ratio is I couldn't get a good layout and some games can look stretched at 4x3, this is kind of a happy medium from the ratio the games were designed in and the TV ratio. There is also an illusion that a standard CRT TV is a perfect square (or near perfect) so being slightly more square makes the shots look more normal.
-Note--I generally think BL2 is a better looking layout unless I have a screen shot that would look good cropped like an intro scene, but its up to you.
??? ScreenShot Sizing Simplified
1-- All pics from a game should be cropped the same before resizing, this is just the Height. Here we are getting rid of the boarders from the emulator and cropping it to look like it would on a real TV.
2-- Large Shot Cropped (BL1 pic:1 Only!!) resize 1st with [300 by 300] [percent] [Nearest Neighbor] then [800 by 640] [Pixels] [Bicubic] lastly do the final crop, pick a reagon 800 by 480
3-- Large Shot (BL1 pic:3 & BL2 pic:1) resize 1st with [300 by 300] [percent] [Nearest Neighbor] then [800 by 640] [Pixels] [Bicubic]
4-- Small Shots (BL1 pic:2,4 & BL2 pic:2,3,4) resize 1st with [200 by 200] [percent] [Nearest Neighbor] then [600 by 480] [Pixels] [Bicubic]
5-- If the width of your game screen shot is 344 pixels or above then for the large shots (step 2 & 3) instead of 300% change to 200%
(As far as I know most games are 256w by 239h or 242h in the emulator screenshots and these are often cropped to 256x224. I do have some games that are 344w and 352w in the screenshots for those I used step 5)
-When switching to the Color Coded version change the 8px stroke around the shots to match the covers color.
Story - Find a shot of the box online for the story and features, In rare cases (Kieth Courage) the manual has a sufficient story in it.
-story sizing I have hyphenate off but you may want to turn it on and see if it looks ok. otherwise you can see what happens when you change the font width percent from like85-95 default is 90%
Features - Mainly just get the player count right and number of levels. Some of the features I leave out if they are too long or unnecessary to save space but this is personal preference.
-Note-Most CD games don't list features so I just put the player count since that is nice to know.
-The bullet points(or in this case dashes - ) start at the top guide on Bl1 and sit on the bottom guide on Bl2 depending on how many bullet points there are you may have to move them on BL2
Developer - Look online at wikipedia and at the title screen of the game. you have spaces for three developers on layout 1(BL1) it starts on line 2 and on bl2 its starts on line 1. see my covers.
(V3 I locked the Seal of approval since I have it in that exact spot on all my covers now, don't move it unless you have to)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Spine Title and Rear Title
-Color Coded version put the name in all caps, if its too long shorten the length percent only, for long names you usually only have to adjust the back title but if its real long then both
-Orange version you can either find a similar font like Gotham nights or contact me and I can make you the title layer, I used a 3d app to create most of the tg16 font vary closely it takes me around 15 mins to make one up for you. so contact me or post a list of games you need and Ill try and get them done asap.
-The back title if its one word like neutopia the first and last letter get capitalized like NeutopiA if its two words then its just the first letter in both words like Alien Crush
for the spine all words just have the first letter capital even one word titles so that would just be Neutopia and Alien Crush
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Color Coded and Genres- I included all of the main genres (9 of them)there are a few freak ones I purposely left out because I figure we can fit all of them into these, also for CD games you will need to pick the most fitting genre. (example dungeon explorer 2 has a red duo symbol on the cover and is listed as action-rpg because dungeon explorer 1 is just rpg and i wanted them to match and de2 already had rpg in it I chose rpg)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Saving
In PS go to "File" then "Save As" now enter the name then and select jpeg, uncheck icc profile and hit save, now in the last pop up change Quality to 12 and make sure "Baseline Standard" is the box checked
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Some of this is pretty obvious if you know photoshop basics, I assume people who use the template will know most of this but at the least it should help save some time and help keep the covers more consistent looking.

Very nice description and thanks for all the hard work!
We have strict naming conventions on our site though. So those covers when they get published on our site will all be named after those. Just so you know. ;)
-
Ektophase you rock! You've done a perfect job with your design and your template and I hope to see a lot of covers in that style in the future. Awesome work, really!
As for your suggested naming conventions it's like tiktektak said. We have established strict naming conventions to organize our covers and to streamline the whole process of adding covers for all the admins. We admins check all the covers anyway before adding so it's not necessary to put the "_o" for orange in the filename. When they are added to the site you also have the preview pictures where you can see the color style of the highlighted cover.
Everything else you said is very well thought out and spot-on!
-
Wow love the covers. Nicest thus far
-
thx for the compliments
ok Ill edit/delete that part, is there anyway they should be named so its easier for the admins?
-
Wow, you're definitely one of the most informed newbies we've had around here. Instead of asking a bunch of silly questions, you threw us a friggin template! Great job man :D
-
can't wait for you to upload those cover....just beautiful !!!!!!
-
thx for the compliments
ok Ill edit/delete that part, is there anyway they should be named so its easier for the admins?
No not really. The naming conventions are dterminded by the game at hand in relation to what we already have on the site. Plus, we have to rename the cover anyways. When you upload a cover it will automatically put your username (or the name you chose whil euploading) in front of the filename. The final file name doesn't have the cover artist's name, we do that manually.
If you want to meet us halfway then don't use any special characters like $ / ( ) : and the like, use only lower case letters and have just one word even if the name is more than one word (e.g. splintercellchaostheory). That will minimize the renaming to the absolute minimum.
Good timing on your part coming up with a TG16 template. I just bought one :)
-

Nice choice! This machine has some pretty interesting games way ahead of it's time.
Did you just get the basic TG16 or a CD-ROM addon as well?
-
Just the TG16 for now. I just recently rediscovered my love for shmups and just like the Neo Geo is your first choice for fighting games the TG16 has a lot of exellent shooters. But I'm looking forward to discovering more games from different genres. Right now I just have Blazing Lazers and Dragon Spirit.
-
I luv TG16/PC Engine to pieces. Of the top of my head, Detana Twinbee (dunno the U.S name), Galaga 88 (90?) Tiger Heli, Legendary Axe, Pac-Land, Ninja Spirit, Super Star Soldier, Saint Dragon and the Space invaders update where all played to death on mine. I only have JP versions so some of them would have different names or maybe were never released stateside. If you do decide to splash for a CD drive, you will be in shooting heaven BUT the drives are a little unreliable, especially by this stage of their lives.
BTW, im a bit of a 2D shooting nut and i have really been enjoying Soldner-X 2: Final Prototype for PS3. Well worth the money i thought.

and a hell of a lot easier than the 1st one on PSN. Dunno - maybe my reaction time has slowed a little over the years - but that had me cursing in no time at all!

No, your right mate. Its a bit of a 'Pad Chucker'. One that has me ranting and raving at full volume (much to the amusement of the family).

The main reason I got the system is Saint Dragon :) I loved that game on the Amiga but could never beat it. It has haunted me since then and I just want to beat it already :D Splatterhouse is also on my list to finish my collection. I almost bought a FM Towns Marty since that console/computer hybrid also had a port of Splatterhouse but luckily I could resist :D
On a side note, kind of thread-jacking I suppose, is anyone working on a decent Atari Jaguar template? I just got that console too and the games come in cardboard boxes.
-
You did an amazing work on these.
At first I was more into the Orange template for fidelity but I like the multi colored spines more and more.
-
Thansk ektophase for all your hard work!
All your very nice covers are now available for download on our site.
Any new stuff coming from you? :)

I noticed both Dungeon Explorer 1 & 2 were filed under "Dungeon Explorer"
-
Awesome they're up :)
yes dungeon explorer 2 should be its own game and also there should be 3 variations for that game, I think you guys missed the purple one. Also did i forget to upload Devils Crush or did you guys skip over it on accident?
Edit: cool all fixed 8)
Well if anyone wants to upload some manual cover scans Id love to make some more, Ill have to recheck the raw section, there may be a couple of decent scans in there yet. hmm I still have to do Sidearms with the original cover.
-
Jup all has been added to our database. Very good work!
Still it would be nice if you'd always just do two color variations of each games cover. Otherwise the database-adding work amount gets huge. ;D

BEAUTIFUL........more please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Man this game is hard I was playing it in slow motion with save states to get screen shots and I had a really hard time beating it.
then I get to the last stage and im like oh crap a boss parade at least they give you the choice of power ups.
then when i was trying to get info for the back I found there was an invincibility cheat..doh, oh well I had a fun time being super stressed playing it.
Also I added a list to page 1 of thread
-
The covers look great! Now that I have a new scanner as soon as I get new games I scan them right away. So the scans were good?
The first time ever that I played Blazing Lazers I made it to the stage before the last with just 2 lifes and thought "why do people say this game is hard? I've played much harder (Viewpoint stage 3 boss anyone?). But from there it went downhill and everytime after that I really struggled to get to the last stage. Must have been a fluke :)

Awesome covers as usual :)

I've recently become infatuated with the TurboGrafx again and have been buying up games when ever possible. I've decided to start making a website and possibly a book on the history of the TurboGrafx. I've got a few questions for all of you TG16 fans. Anyone know of a good look-a-like font for the TG16 and I also am trying to get scans of all the HuCards as with the boxes. If any of you are interested please let me know. If not... well... thanks anyway.
-
Found a font that is really close. Now I just need to work at getting all the scans I need. ::)
-
whatthefont can usually get you an exact match, but usually the match is a font that costs >$80.
-

I'll help you with some scans. I have a couple scans already for when the uploads are working again. You say you've been buying up games, are you going to scan and load raws or covers here? If so let me know which ones (no need to scan duplicates). Maybe a list of what you have or need would help also.
-
Well this is what I have so far.
Cardboard box:
Final Lap Twin
Jewel Case/HuCards:
Dragon's Curse
Final Lap Twin
Keith Courage
Neutopia
Splatter House
World Class Baseball
Vigilante
This is the way I'm doing the scans for the site/book but at higher res of course

with the jewel case and everything.
I've got Battle Royal on the way with cardboard box. And currently bidding on a few more games.
-
you're going to get some glare/reflection off the jewel case if scanning like that - also colours will be slightly off and scratches/marks will be harder to clean up.
-
Glare is not a problem, color is not a problem that can be adjusted with curves and levels.
I am doing it this way because to me it looks better to show what the game truly looks as a display rather than just a scan of the cover. Cover scans can be found anywhere on the net ... I want to do something different from what is already out there.
Once I get home and have a chance I will show you an idea of what I have in my head that I'm going to do.
-
Yeah but if your going to scan them for the site so we can make covers out of them you might aswell take them out of the jewel case. Its absolutely pointless to scan them in the jewel case since we would just have to put in extra time and effort to remove it anyway. Sure what your doing is defferent but its not necessary, at least around here anyway. Think about it.
-
Well that of course is obvious. Where in my post did I mention anything about my scan that I was doing being for the cover project? Think about it!
The cardboard boxes I scan I can upload no problem. Heck I can even scan the instruction covers and upload them if they are needed, that too is not a problem.
I know about graphic design and understand that a clean scan is more useful than a scan from behind a jewel case, I've been doing graphic design for over 10 years.
-
Where in my post did I mention anything about my scan that I was doing being for the cover project?
I dont get it... ???...why post it here then??
-
Exactly my point...
-
It's literally pointless to scan them like that - you can easily go from "front cover scan" to "what it looked like in a jewel case", it's much harder to go the other way around.
-
The reason I posted it here because I thought maybe, just maybe, the people that were in this post had some love for the TG16. I apologize, I guess I was wrong.
I was looking for assistance from those that were willing. If your not interested in helping out so be it! I never asked for your opinion if it was difficult to clean an scan that's in a jewel case. That never even came up.
That is exactly MY point.
And to those who are just jumping into the conversation go back and read the previous posts. I don't want to explain again as to why I'm wanting them in jewel case (for my personal project NOT for thecoverproject).
As I said previously I would be happy to send my scan of just the boxes and manual covers since I'm buying up all the TG16 games I can get my hands on. If you don't want the help with this end of the cover project just say so.
-
I think there's just a misunderstanding. If your project involves scanning the games in their jewel cases and show them that way then by all means do it. Hell, if you don't have them already I'd be glad to help you out and scan Dragon Spirit and/or Blazing Lazers in their jewel cases. I think the thing that leaves people a bit puzzled is why you don't upload a normal scan first or after. Like "Hi this is me, this is a scan for game xy. oh and by the way, this is what I have in mind" :)
You see, we welcome every new cover and every scan if people come to the forums and care to share them. It's just that...we are a greedy bunch :)
-
Hi, Thor.
I'm here because I'm working in a similar project to yours. I build the "real" package using photoshop wich, for me, is more convenient. Here is an example:
(http://a.imageshack.us/img266/3855/streetsofrage3.th.jpg) (http://img266.imageshack.us/i/streetsofrage3.jpg/)
...and I also would love to have your inlay scans without jewel case, this way I could avoid some image cleaning.
Regards.
-
LOL Random that is so funny... I was doing the exact same thing that your doing for Genesis 32X and Sega CD. I found that I had bit off more than I can chew though because combining all those games became a very tedious project. That is why I've reverted to the TG16 it will be a much smaller project to start with. Looks great by the way love the textured plastic sleeve that you added.
As I've already said before I will upload what I have for the TG16 so that's not a problem. I will upload them today as a matter of fact if they are not already on the site.
-
Well I've rescanned all the covers w/o jewel case and tried to upload but every time I get an error "There appears to be a problem with the file your are uploading" and I've tried to use different browsers. Files are jpg format. Any clues?
And as for jewel case scanning if you said you would help me with that don't worry about it. I would still like to get my hands on HuCard scans though.
-
Upload function still not working since the server move unfortunately - if you could keep hold of them until the site's working fully, and try again..............none of us know when that's going to be though >:(
-
So for those of you who use these covers for your TG16 games, how do you store your games in DVD cases?
-
Yeah, how indeed ??? I've heard about the Xbox Live game card cases in Europe (DVD Case sized in which you can perfectly fit your HuCard instead of the XBL card).
Problem with this is that the Cases are pretty scarce (as people trash them) and I'm in North America (which doesn't waste as much plastic for this matter: paper packaging)
-
I have actually strayed away from putting my HuCards in any DVD cases. As the amazing supericeboy and Ektophase have made covers for Dragon Spirit (which I do not have MIB), it's time to start. I'll likely use DVD cases and put the game in the Instruction Book clip. Unless someone has a better idea?
-

I use the same method for securing my cards. It won't stand up to real jostling, but for storage on the shelf it works just fine.
-
But how do you do it?
-
But how do you do it?
you stick them under the literature clips, those tabs where you put instruction manuals
-
Id imagine you could probably buy some kind of plastic clips that you could stick on the inside to hold the card in place and just remove the center peice that hold the disk in place. I myself would not be down with sticking in the manual holders if I had a Turbo Grafx (someday Ill buy one).

The covers look great! Now that I have a new scanner as soon as I get new games I scan them right away. So the scans were good?
sry late response- yes good scans
For fitting in the dvd case just put hucard behind lower left insert clip I have also been putting a thick paper insert in the case as well for better protection.
It can vary for each brand of dvd case but just measure the left side and cut a piece of thick paper/cardstock to fit. (need a ruler, scissors, pencil, and thick paper)
I uploaded blazing lazers and sidearms with original cover so those should be on the site sometime soon.
cool, new raws. do you have the manuals for those box scans as well - like airzonk ?
(for manual scans it helps put black paper(or something black) behind the front page so that words don't scan through I had that problem on a few of mine
and i think that was a problem with one of the old airzonk scans from the ftp. also make sure to have descreen checked on the scan, check the scan guide if you haven't yet)
-

I'll check. I didn't know it was wanted when the box is available.

and i think that was a problem with one of the old airzonk scans from the ftp
I will do that from now on. Can you check the ones already uploaded and let me know if any need to be rescanned?
also make sure to have descreen checked on the scan, check the scan guide if you haven't yet
All my scans on the site are 600dpi with descreen.
You also want any games in which I can only get the manual scan, right? Do you need/want the spine?
Like here

yes I mainly use the manual for these covers they usually have a better layout with the tg16 logos and are usually in better condition than the box, the box is also good to have in case it has a good or better layout and good condition its also useful to have the back for the storyline and to see the pictures that were used (some of this can be found online for popular games as long as the text is legible). I don't think I really need the spine although maybe it would be good to see how the text is written but probably not necessary.
The scans look pretty good Ill see what i can do some may be too beat up to use.

Finished Ninja Spirit, this game is pretty awesome :)

I hoped you would do some fresh covers with the new stuff akrate provided!
They look really nice! :)

Ektophase, I talked to my friend with the TG16 games today. He said he does have the manuals to the games I uploaded so far. I'm going over his house one day this coming week, I'll get some more scans for the site.
Here's the only other game I have so far that I didn't upload because I forgot to scan the spine. Since I don't need to now, here it is.
Gate of Thunder

You Turbografx guys probably already know this, but for the rest of us, here is some info on the game. Gate of Thunder is a 3 in 1 game that came with Bonk's Adventure and Bonk's Revenge on the same disc. I included a scan of the "Surprise Note" from inside because some people over the years have probably bought a used copy which didn't include it. It has a code that when entered gives access to a fourth unlisted game on the disc. I think it would be kind of cool if whomever makes the cover includes the note info somewhere on the back (although the ultimate choice is yours).
Another cool thing is the two Bonk's manuals are the same ones used for their respective stand alone versions, so three separate game covers can be made from this game.
Normally I wouldn't post links in this section reserved for the artists on the site, but due to the extra info I figured it would be ok. I'll post further uploads in the Raw Scans area and then link here.
P.S. One last bit of good news is Andrew (my friend) said next time I come over he'll break out Magical Chase which is the "Holy Grail" of Turbografx games. He said only 3000 were made and hardly anybody has one. My first thought was, if no one has one then who would need a cover for it (lol). Either way, it's always nice to have covers for rare games here at TCP.

Ive only played it on my MAME emulator and I loved it. Had no idea it was released on a console. The TG16 is like the only console I care to own that I dont have yet. This game is going to encourage me to get one sooner.

akrate69- awesome, also whats on the back and side of that 3 in one pack/cdcase.
Cool magical chase is ownez
Its too bad tg16 wasnt sold with like bonks adventure or even better bonks revenge instead of the weird mediocre kieth corage :( kc is just not cool Zeus
good thing toys'r'us had air zonk on display or I probably would have never got the system although I never did buy air zonk since it was always full price

Yeah great game. The first time I played it was on the TG16 I didn't know that it was an arcade game till many years later.
I too will be uploading covers for you all to work on if you interested.
Just an update on the book that I've been working on. I now have a small team of people working on it but we are still looking for manual covers and HuCards and CD scans.
-
I have actually strayed away from putting my HuCards in any DVD cases. As the amazing supericeboy and Ektophase have made covers for Dragon Spirit (which I do not have MIB), it's time to start. I'll likely use DVD cases and put the game in the Instruction Book clip. Unless someone has a better idea?
I use the same method for securing my cards. It won't stand up to real jostling, but for storage on the shelf it works just fine.
Yes I agree with you. Why put them in bigger cases than what was intended. With the old PS1 and Sega CD or Saturn games I can understand but this just is kind of backwards thinking. But they do look amazing.
-
akrate69- whats on the back and side of that 3 in one pack/cdcase.
I think it was in a clear cd type case. I'm pretty sure there wasn't anything on the back or I'd have scanned it. Never made it over there this week (Fail), but I'll check next time I am.
Sorry for the late response. Don't know how I didn't notice more responses in this thread (2 Fail's in the same post - Ouch!).
-
No problem it will take me a while to get the raw covers I have done, so no rush. I did finish bonks revenge but i had to do a little work on the head because there was some words showing through, I didn't notice until i started to add a bunch of contrast and saturation, anyways I was able to fix it pretty easily because the head is one color and not shaded like bonk 1. so a reminder to people to put black paper behind the front page/cover of the manual while scanning.
---------------------------------------
some of the reasons people may want to put them in dvd cases are
-they can go next to all your other dvd cased games on the shelf
-the original jewel cases are beat up and have faded spines, many of the spines don't match in style.
-not being fan of fragile jewel cases
-you can put info that was on the box and and jewel case together, the original TG16 jewel case have nothing on the back, the boxes are fragile and its rare to have all the boxes and have them in good condition.
Im sure there are a bunch more reason and im sure there are good reasons why someone would want to keep them in the original cases or do something else entirely. :)
I too will be uploading covers for you all to work on if you interested.

just to be a grammar nazi.... if you played it on emulator then you emulated it.... so it must have come from a console no? :)
or did you mean you thought it was an Amiga game?
-
well, not really - MAME is Multi Arcade Machine Emulator - so he emulated the arcade version.

Ektophase I love what you're doing, this template is a godsend for me actually ;D
What I've actually done though is modified your template a bit so that I can print out the covers for a Universal Game Case. Then for the games I have cases for (but no box) I can stick the whole case in and give it a more polished look.
I'm working on a UGC case for Cadash right now, once I've got it done I'll post it up so you can see what I'm doing. I'm also making a DVD case version too since translating between the DVD to UGC is pretty simple and just involves some cropping and moving around the logos.
Thanks again for the template!!!!!
-
Sorry for the long delay on this, I've finally gotten some pictures taken of how the whole thing turned out in a UGC.

Edit:Added one more photo to show what it looks like with the TurboGrafx CD case in the Universal Game Case. I guess I'm actually increasing the footprint of this for display, but boy does it look nice :D

hey yeah that looks cool 8), the pictures are a little fuzzy (probably from cell phone?) but looks real good.
If anyone else printed some out already post a pic in here when you get a chance.
I haven't got around to printing some out my self since i first tested the template on bomberman and neutopia seen in this pic (was going to go to kinkos since printer is crap and only prints like 3 pictures an ink cart)
http://www.ektophase.com/TG16/TG08.jpg
Thor, I checked out the covers you uploaded so far, some are a little too rough or faded. also in the future upload at 600 dpi if you can
Be sure and use descreen if you did not, maybe you did its hard for me to tell. if you can rescan them at 600 It would be better because then they would look quite a bit better in the end i think.

feeling the UGC versions.....only because we can store the original game case inside......please consider adapting the others to that format. awesome work!!!!!!
-
well i agree it looks good as a ugc case and I think its cool what xelement5x did there, but I'm not sure if its worth doing because some of the later games didn't even come with jewel cases, plus theres the cd/duo games that are cd's anyways. Also if you buy any games used, half the time they only have the game. And many of the original cases are damaged (faded spines, scratched or cracked covers) there's plenty of room in a dvd case for the game and the manual.
Recently I was also thinking of some nicer ways to put them in the dvd case by using collector card plastic sleeves which are pretty much the same size as the original sleeve. could glue them in or glue them to a piece of thick paper the size of an insert and then put the manual behind that perhaps.
-
Very nice cover ekto!
I also think that DVD cases are the best way to go because there quite a few nice cd games as well and the manuals fit nice in a DVD box.
Not that it matters too much to me because I stick to the original cases. ;)
-
Here is Magical Chase. It took me a few hours to fix the damage and i had to recreate a couple of small patches.
It turned out real nice, but we can always replace it if we get a scan that is flawless.

Isn't the FM Towns port also quite expensive not to say prohibitively expensive?
-
They sure are. Splatterhouse and Zak McKracken seem to be the rarest and moste sought after Fm Towns games. Just a quick check on ebay there's a Splatterhouse and a Zak McKracken copy for around 400 Euros (~ $520).
Oh, and that's $500 EACH not both together :D
I think these are pure collectors items not meant to be played. Playing them would be the equivalent of having sex with a super model on a pile of cash :D

Never heard of an FM Towns before. That Splatterhouse port does look pretty arcade perfect! Anyway, heres 2 more.

Neither would I, but just as Splatterhouse they don't come cheap. And with that we're right at the beginning again :D

Nice, I'll add those to the list of finished ones. gotta love the warning on the splatterhouse cover.
If you want I can make you the orange cover text layer instead of the gotham nights?

Sure, if you want to make the layers ill put them in.

once you have the layer in the right spot (where the bomberman one is)
in your layers tab right under the word layers the drop down that says normal switch it to darken
(this will show only things darker than white)

These all look nice. I want to get some JP ones up but need a 36 hr day to achieve everything. ;) Hope your enjoying your TG16/PC Engine Badchad. I have a real soft spot for the old girl...
-
Im loving it. Ive been indulging in some Neutopia for the most part. Thinking of modding mine with the region switch to grab some of the really good JAP games.
-
2 more! And I still have "World Class Baseball" and "Takin' it to the Hoops" to put together once I can find readable scans of the boxes. Do you think you could send the text layers for those 4 games Ektophase? Then Ill send them over to tiktektak with everything els of mine that hes going through! ;D

Ive got two more covers in the works! Cadash and Dungeon Explorer, think you could hook me up with the orange template text Ektophase? Thanks! :)

yes no problem, it may take me a day or two before i am able, you may be able to use the dungeon explorer text from the one i made that doesn't have the original cover. it will also take me a while longer to get the VB template up. (PC problems)

No rush, I can wait. Thanks!

Im really diggin these colored covers for dvd cases, but I have a question which may or may not have been answered already. How can you fit a hucard in a dvd case? do you have to mod it?
I just got a turbografx 16 with no games yet so I cant check it out myself, but I plan on getting a few soon and would really like to use these attractive covers.
If someone could show me a picture of how it fits I would appreciate it, Thank you.
-
Here are the titles BadChad http://www.ektophase.com/TG16/TextOrangeBC3.zip
(sorry for delay)
----------------------------------------
The easiest way is this. (works good as long as your not throwing the cases around)
but you could also stick them in paper cd/dvd sleeve like this
http://www.ektophase.com/VirtualBoy/VBDVD1.jpg
I haven't gotten around to going to a collector shop to pick up some baseball/comic card holders
was going to play around with that idea too.
-
oh I see, didn't even expect that. I would probably flip my case upside down because I like my games on the right side of the case when I open them. Thanks again.
-
Thanks for the title layers Ektophase. And funny that were on the topic of hu-cards in a DVD case because I just came up with a much better solution for storing mine. Heres what I came up with:
So I found these tag clips the other day that work perfectly. Its a hard plastic clip with soft rubber teeth in the middle. And it has a strong sticky on the underside to stick to the inside of the case.
So all I did was cut out the disk holder in the middle of the case and placed the clip in the middle off to the side.
Then I slipped the sleeve in the clip without the hu-card first and then slipped the hu-card into the sleeve afterwards. The clips holds the hu-card tightly in place and leaves you the space you need to store your manual.
These clips also work as great replacement clips inside the original jewel cases. The jewel case still closes perfectly and only slightly pushes against the front of the case.
There was just no way I was going to settle with my hu-cards sitting in the manual clips on the DVD case so I came up with this solution! Works for me! ;D
-
that looks much more presentable and I like how it leaves room for the manual. I like that idea a lot more, where can you buy those clips?
-
Yeah that looks like it works nicely 8)
Whats the info on those clips, where can you get them and what brand?
-
I guess I should of mentioned where I got these lol. I actually found these clips at a corner store just down the street from my place. They just come in a plain clear bag with no branding on it or anything. Not sure where they get them. I think it was like $5 for a bag of 50, so roughly 10 cents a peice. Not sure if there available online but if it comes down to it I could buy some and ship them out to you guys if we have too.
-
thats mighty nice of you BadChad. if you could pick up a bag for me i could pay you the $5 plus shipping.
-

The owner of this shop will be quite shocked when you come in his shop the next time buying 100 packs of those clips. ;D
-
I googled adhesive clips and something like this looks like it may also work
http://media.digikey.com/photos/3M%20Photos/3484-1000.jpg
Maybe ask the owner and see if you can get any additional info on them as well.
-
Got a potentially silly question. Is there a guide to the colour coding? I have a few of the old cases but for the life of me I can't remember the denotions for each colour. Green was action if I recall, but I'd really appreciate a point in the right direction on where to find out the coding. I want my tg16 stuff uniform.
-
Have to find a picture of the box online usually.

Here we have the infamous China Warrior

I gotta ask Ektophase. I notice on all your covers you use "Number of Stages". Every retail box Ive seen has "Number of Levels". Do certain games actually say "Stages" instead of "Levels"? I havent noticed any.
Anyway, I havent contributed much lately (I have a special someone in my life now! ;)) so heres a few more covers!
Cadash:

Man did they ever slack on the screenshots for this game. Took me all of 5 min to snap exact shots from the the box. They didnt even bother to showcase the multiplayer let alone switch the character! :P
World Class Baseball:

EDIT: Also have a Neutopia II cover in the works. Think you send the text layer for the orange template Ektophase? Thanks
-
Sure thing I should have time tomorrow.
Yeah your right the majority do say levels a few do say stages like sidearms but It would probably just be best to say
Number of levels: 7
I must have just rolled with one that said stages. I'll fix it on the ones I haven't uploaded. Also I may update a few of the old ones I did that I don't like the rear layout on.
A few that I'm looking at here say "Number of levels: 7 stages" thats kinda like say "Number of cars: 7 automobiles" ??sounds stupid
Man did they ever slack on the screenshots for this game. Took me all of 5 min to snap exact shots from the the box. They didnt even bother to showcase the multiplayer let alone switch the character! :P
Lol yeah, they spent around the same amount of time on the cover, one of the worst ones on the TG.

Ok heres the orange title for Neutopia 2
http://www.ektophase.com/TG16/TitleOrangeBC4.zip
I think Im going to redo neutopia 1s back with the standard layout (default / bomberman one)
and maybe get a new shot or 2, Im thinking one with the first boss.
Edit: here is the updated Neutopia and also cool to show both games in a row.

Thanks Ektophase! And yeah I agree on the Neutopia back. Seems a little cluttered. I havent printed that one out yet but I was going to reorganize the back before it did. I kinda feel the same about Ninja Spirit.
Some of the covers Ive made, Ive just stuck with the standard layout but for the most part I try to follow the retail box as close as possible.
EDIT:
Neutopia II:

Nice cover badchad.
How much did you get your Neutopia 2 for? I wanted this one too some months ago but it was pretty expensive complete.
-
I payed roughly $75 for mine with the manual. I only noticed one other copy that was complete going for over $100 but I dont care much for the boxes. Neutopia 2 looks like its going to start getting hard to find so I figured Id get it out of the way. Now I just need to find myself a copy of Soldier Blade with the book! :)
-
Hey Tik, do you have a TG or a PCE (or both)?
-
Hey grum!
I have a PC Engine DUO region modded and a HuCard Converter so I can play Hu's from all regions on it.
I think that is the best possible machine you can have cause this way I can play everything (I have an Arcade Card DUO as well) except for the few Supergrafx titles. ;D

I think your probably right. I have a PC Engine Duo-R that i had RGB/SCART modded (i used to do that stuff myself but increasing age = failing eyes and limited patience so i got it done professionally ;)) . I did change the laser and all the caps though as it was skipping music tracks on cd's. So i only buy JP stuff. I have the Arcade Duo card too cos' my fascination with Strider meant i had to have it to play the Engine version that i (unlike many people it seems) love to bits.

Never had hardware problems up to today with my duo. Got a second one for spare parts though just in case. :) Mine is RGB modded too. The picture is really nice that way cause simply put composite sucks in comparison.
-
I've owned my DUO for more than 15 years now.. I've never used it...
Don't even own a game for it.
-
The lack of PC Engine HuCard covers is making me sad. :-\
I'd be happy to provide a few raws if anyone's feeling like making some...
-
I've owned my DUO for more than 15 years now.. I've never used it...
You should let a fellow admin have that one then ;)
You probably need the money with all the money you lost betting for the steelers winning the superbowl ;)

Updated the template "V2"
Nothing done to the front or spine
Improved the default rear layout
now using the word levels instead of stages
New guides layout ( Ctrl ; )
Deleted Unused layers (alternate nec stuff)
Also I'm working on updated a bunch of my old covers with better back layouts
not sure how you guys have your setup but im guessing i should name the covers exactly the same name and an admin can upload and overwrite the old versions?
-

Jup correct. We need them the exact same name as on the site and the same quality too. ;D
-
Hey Ektophase, since your re-organizing the backs on some of your covers do you think you could rework Ninja Spirit to look closer to retail? I would say something similar to what I did with Cadash would be suitable. That would be awesome! :)
http://www.mobygames.com/game/turbo-grafx/ninja-spirit/cover-art/gameCoverId,71271/
-
yeah I could probably make one like that.
Hold off on making any covers I'm actually reworking the back even more so there will be a new version of the template soon.
-
Sounds good. Ive got nothing on the go for the TG16 right now anyway unless I can find a back shot of Takin it to the Hoop.
-
Updated template "V3"
Now there are two improved default back layouts to choose from
locked many of the layers that are not movable
better picture sizes
--More info on the template post on page one when I update that in a bit.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I finished redoing the backs on all my covers, there are a few spelling errors i fixed and I adjusted the color on a few of the cover pics.
Also replaced some shots with better ones, But mainly its just better back layouts using the updated template
The redone folder are the covers that can just be replaced (43 covers) and then there are 6 new covers (3 Games) that I haven't uploaded do to the function being down. This is all the tg16 covers Ive done so far, all updated in the zip, I also updated the render pics in this thread to reflect the changes.
Ill take this down in a week or so.
http://www.ektophase.com/TG16/TurboGrafx16Covers_Ektophase.zip
-
Love the new layout, ill have to update a few of my covers aswell. But I find some of the backs look empty when the description isnt long enough to fill the space.
-
yeah true, I couldn't think of anything to do about it, some games just have short stories, i didn't want to stretch or space the story any bigger because it starts to look inconsistent. (aside from a few percent to get the story to space nicely on the right boarder.
I'm not sure if there is a solution?
speaking of backs, some of these tg games have the worst.. back of the boxes Ive seen, strange crops, bad pictures and picture quality, special feature that aren't special at all. lots of mistakes like devils crush says its has 4 bonus levels instead of 6 and victory run talks about a red car when its blue and white and looks like a Porsche and then on the cover its like a red convertible from the 50s or maybe the future i cant tell if its hovering ??? ..its bad
here is a fun shot i whipped up with most the recent covers included
(http://www.ektophase.com/TG16/TG16color2.jpg)
-
yeah true, I couldn't think of anything to do about it, some games just have short stories, i didn't want to stretch or space the story any bigger because it starts to look inconsistent.
Why not just increase the font size a bit ? Thats what I did with the Neutopia II coved and I thought it looked pretty good. Or you could try increasing the space between lines or break up the paragraph a bit.
-
yeah I started to do that before i got to the 3 version when i was messing around with the second version a remade a bunch of covers and tried to get them centered in between the 2 sets of pictures and then increased the font size a little to take up more space without getting too big but when your dealing with 20 covers trying to make them look alike where do you draw the line, just eyeballing it looks good but when your shuffling through 5 covers and one has big font and the other has more space in between them it kinda looks bad imo
like if you adjust a short story with a bigger font in some cases you would have to get it pretty big to take up most of the black and then if you just adjust it a little does it make enough of a difference to sacrifice the consistency of all of them.
so then i just decided to keep it simple and roll with one size and to just start at the top and not center the paragraph, to me it just didn't seem worth it as it and only seemed to look a little bit better but not as consistent. and then I found that most or all of them them look better than they did before this way
its not really a conventional box where every one is different all the shots are in the same spot and same size now
lol messy response, but that was kind of the reasoning i was using and is just my current opinion
-
Updated all my TG16 covers today and the preview shots in this thread. I re-arranged the backs on all of them to look closer to retail and took new screens for a few of them aswell. Im thinking it might be a good idea to change the back layout of Template BL1 to what I came up with here this way all our covers will be closer to retail. Thats how Im going to be doing the backs for any of my TG16 games that used that layout:
-
looks good, your welcome to do what you want with the back layout. I did update some stuff in the tutorial and template fyi, like the location of the rear seal and now the developer is a different size and is aligned to the right. I'm actually really satisfied with the template layouts I used so I don't want to change them. We could call your layout the 3rd back layout for the template if you want.
-
Yeah I did grab the new templates but I just incorporated the screens from the BL Template into the older one. I noticed that you moved the back seal and lowered the font size a little but I kinda liked the way it was on the old one so I kept it.
And sure if you want to add a third layout to the template, wouldnt hurt to have it as an option for anyone that likes it.
-
Hey ektophase, do you think you could send me text layers for Bloody Wolf and R-Type? Ive got covers pretty much finished for those 2. Thanks!
-
nice, here u go
http://www.ektophase.com/TG16/BC5.zip
r type looks like its spelled like this in the turbo text R-type with short t
(http://image.com.com/gamespot/images/bigboxshots/0/589090_40563_back.jpg)
Also if you want to send me that 3rd back layout or a link to it i can post it in the template post
then if you have stuff like info/ guides/tips for it
-
Ive messed around with your template a bit to get it the way I like it so it would probably be easier for me to send you one of my finished covers and you can just match the screens to that.
EDIT:

Thanks for all your work Ektophase but I really hope these are the last versions of your covers.
You know everytime I have to replace them on the site as a whole it is extremly time consuming.
So please no more updates unless you tell me now so that I will wait for the finalized ones before I upload.
-
Well I'm really satisfied with them now so hopefully there will be no more updates unless it is just an error that needs to be fixed on one or something.
Sorry for the extra work, I did name them the same like you said earlier so hopefully that helps.
:) Thanks

You wouldn't happen to have scans for Bonk 3 would you?

Great job on the Turbo covers LumberJoof. I just downloaded two of them, thanks :)
-
I forgot I had this one too. Neutopa 2....by chance have anything on that one?
thank you again for all the new covers

I just got a turbografx. Some of the games I bought don't have a box so I'm wondering how to you fit it inside a DVD case. Wouldn't it move around??
-
I just got a turbografx. Some of the games I bought don't have a box so I'm wondering how to you fit it inside a DVD case. Wouldn't it move around??
I put the manual on the left side. then on the right side I cut out the part that holds the DVD in. then I place velcro on the back side of the plastic hu card sleeve. I put it on the opposite side of the opening that way the opening isn't fixed to the DVD case and it allows for ease of removing and putting back the hu card. That way you never really have to seperate the velcro pieces
-
I buy the small round velcro pieces. I put one in the top corner and one on the bottom. I'd post a pic but I cant seem to get in posted.
-
Thats a good idea using velcro pads. especially now that you can buy a case of sleeves from Seymor Onion and you don't have to worry about sleeve scarcity.
Also BadChad did Neutopia 2 already (page 9) although I don't see it on the site yet.
Ill try to make a list of games to make title cards for the orange template for you guys in the next few days.
Sorry I haven't been around vary often, but its cool to see some covers got done.
Bought Air Zonk and Legendary Axe 1 recently

Also I just checked a few of the DLs from the site and the covers I redid never got updated, so people have been DLing old versions
Heres the latest ones again http://www.ektophase.com/TG16/TurboGrafx16Covers_Ektophase.zip these are the latest ones (although I did notice one spelling error on Kieth Courage :-[) They are named the same so they should overwrite ok and I don't think they really need new thumbnails since they are pretty similar. There are two files I believe one is new covers which was just magical chase and ordyne I think those got added ok a long while back the old covers file are the redone ones that can be updated. If one of the admins wants to check it out.
-
Yeah, I still have all my TG16 covers in a folder ready to go. Just never uploaded it. Got Neutopia 2 and Bloody Wolf too.

Yup, R-Type should be in there too.

I PMed you your title layers BC
---
lumberjoof
I had a chance to check out some of your covers and they may need some tweaking first the sizing on the back screen shots you need to read my "how to" post in the second post of this thread they should be 5x4 etc also are you using the V3 version of the template because some of the rear layouts seem off. Also check out some of my covers to see how they are set up http://www.ektophase.com/TG16/TurboGrafx16Covers_Ektophase.zip
last but not least some of the covers I looked at seemed to be vary poor quality cover scans and some don't seem to be scans but look like pictures from a camera. which of these covers do you actually have access to? follow instructions in my second post start with a 600 dpi scan..
then let me know if you want me to make you some title layers for the orange version
---
I'll try and update the how to post, I thought of a few things to add like saving the files properly also I may update the template to take the step out of matching the stroke and just build that into the color section..
Also perhaps we should just have renders of the covers from now on and make them a hair smaller, this thread gets annoying with all the big pics loading. :-\
-
I have these manuals:
Tricky Kick
TV Sports Hockey
Psychosis
Turrican
Monster Lair
Ys Book I & II
-
Nice, well start with one of those, follow the 'how to' post then post a link and I'll check it out and see if i can find any problems or give any feedback.
I'll get some orange version title layers made up for those games soon.
wow Psychosis has an epic description Shoot Shoot!!

Hi, there!!First of all, great template Ektophase!!!
I followed your 2nd-post-guide with two decent 300 dpi manual covers, that I luckily found in a random t*rrent, and here's the result:
(I cleaned the covers in photoshop first of course, I used your version 3 template, but only made the colour-coded version as that's the one I'm interested and had time for...)

Please check them for quality and make any corrections if needed! :) I can send you the .psd files if you need
-
They look pretty good, I just checked them out..
on kick boxing there are a couple of specks on the cover you could clone stamp, a few dust speck near the top and one large one right above the mat
on battle royale there is a spelling error in the feature's ( levers)
Also they should then be saved as jpeg I have the settings in the guide
other wise they are real nice, backs are done well, the cover scans I'd rate about a B and could possibly be replaced down the road.
Upload the psds and I can take care of the orange versions if you like or if you want I can make the fixes as well. And also I can keep them on file in case we get some really nice cover scans. (you will still get the credit for them if we alter your files. put your name or alias in the psd name)
-
Sorry for the delay Ektophase, but weekends are "gf activities" time, hehe. I hope I'll be able to post the .psds by midnight GMT+2.
I don't care about credit, as long as the job is done. Just quality-correct them and give links in a post, so that I can update the links in my post too. ;)
EDIT: I have pmed you the links of the .psd files, take a look please.

The correct way is kickboxing according to Google and wikipedia meanwhile firefox with spell check wants it like kick boxing or kick-boxing ??? Maybe we can ask Andre Panza I would also like to know if it really took 2 years to film and digitize all of his moves ::)
Well here are both

I'll make the PSDs available soon.
Also there was a slight problem I fixed with Air Zonk on the last page so if you have it, redownload.
-
Ok, thanks a lot Ektophase, I have also corrected the links in my post to redirect to your corrected images.
I prefer "Kick Boxing" because it's on the front and the outer box and the game screen (most naming conventions use in-game screen titles). Also wikipedia has it listed as "andre panza kick boxing" here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_TurboGrafx-16_games
-
Yes good points, I deleted the links to the second version.
Well I got a better scan of Battle Royale after picking it up yesterday with some other TG games from a local guy. The manual was in A shape. Didn't know he had it when I went over there so it was kind of a coincidence.
Updated the cover, the links two posts up are the updated ones. Theres a little less saturation and contrast but more detail and better quality.
(PMed you the psd provato)
-
Ok, thanks Ektophase!
I don't really need the psd, just the image. As for the naming part, the box account that I pasted links for, is mostly for personal storage so I keep my own naming. You can go ahead and upload the covers here in the site if you like. I just paste in the forum for quality corrections and reference.
I updated the links of the images in my initial posts, so that people will always download the latest quality-updated version.

PMed you your orange cover titles lumberjoof
I did a better Parasol Stars I just got this game so was able to get a real manual scan and I think I got some better shots in 2 player mode as well, the last one I think is a low rez box scan that has some of the art cut off and a 2 player logo over the woman in the chariot. I also put my higher quality seal over the one on the cover.

The rear layouts look good and overall they look improved.
When I put on my inspection goggles a couple minor things I noticed
ML cover scan there are a few minor specks or dust or misprint specks for instance on the snake and some of the letters.
TK again just a few minor specks
Turrican the scan still look a bit low quality to me, it could just be not that great of a cover or something who knows
the shots on the back appear to be nearest neighbor only and not scaled twice like on the other covers
Psy on the lower right left border of the cover there is some edge showing if you magnify this you should be able to fix with the clone stamp -shortcut Ctrl and + or - to zoom in and out quickly
TV SH this scan looks better there was some strange patterns/artifacts in the blacks before, again just some small specks here and there.
Basically magnify those covers and comb them for small imperfections and clone stamp away.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I made a simplified description of sizing the screen shots in the guide. since the guide is a bit messy.
I have to look at the guide once in a while myself so it's partly for me as well as new folks.
Edit- I also just cleaned up the the guide as well. Easier to understand and clearer steps.
-
^ I could also help you with the covers if you like, let me know.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Added more tips n tricks into the guide on page 1 may be good for cover artist to read for fun.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I updated the zip of the covers that need to be replaced and haven't been replaced yet http://www.ektophase.com/TG16/TurboGrafx16Covers_Ektophase.zip
Now it only contains the covers that need to be replaced and I fixed the one spelling error on Keith Courage. I also fixed some minor dust specks I found on KC, Ninja spirit, and Bomberman when I reexamined all the covers for problems.
Again these are named the same so they should overwrite the old files fine. they probably don't need new thumbnails since they are so similar to the previous covers aside from the rear layout of shots and story.
I assume an admin would just need to log in with an ftp client and overwrite the files. Or if this site has some more complicated way I would be willing to do the work. let me know.
-
I'll look into replacing all those TGFX covers saturday.

Ok just got done checking these out.
Monster Lair and Hockey look pretty good
Psychosis I missed this before but the "is" in the last sentence has a Capitol I instead of a lower case i -but otherwise looks good.
Tricky kick looks good but I noticed a different problem with the cover.
The stuff printed on the back of the cover is showing through, this is where black paper can help like I talk about in the guide.
I had to buy some black paper at Michaels so i know its a bit of a pain to find some but I use it on all the covers I scan.
Its most noticeable to the right of the samurai's head theres a black horizontal bar, and theres a few other areas
I actually have this manual and can tell its particularly cheap, probably the worst I've seen for the system.
I'm not sure if your manual has more wear than mine or what the deal is but it looks a little more blotchy or something. So I was thinking I can scan mine touch it up and send it to you tomorrow when I get a chance.

@Ektophase: All covers have been replaced with your newest versions. I didn't replace the thumbs though.
New additions would also be very welcome. ;)

Speaking of new covers, does anyone have a DVD size cover for Dungeon & Dragons: Order of the Griffon? I saw Segagamer's jewel case cover for this game but I wasn't able to find a DVD cover for it.
Thanks!

Awesome thanks :)
OK well I just uploaded provato's 2 (4) covers but the uploader is a bit funky now, it wants a name for the games in a drop down and just lists previously uploaded games and not new ones. So I just uploaded under Aero Blasters
Secondly it does not have an author input anymore so someone may need to manually put in provatos name
(it is spelled with a lower case p in his profile ?) (you can see him on page 12)
here are the Info and DLs in case of a problem

Sorry to my knowledge this game hasn't been made/completed yet, we would need a decent scan of the manual preferably at 600dpi. There are scanning tips in the second post on this thread on page one in the "Front" section and also a scanning guide located in the link below in case you have a manual and a scanner
http://www.thecoverproject.net/forums/index.php?topic=1305.0
-
Thanks for responding. I have a scanner, just don't have the manual. I was unfortunately only able to get my hands on the game without manual or even the original jewel case. Any one out have the manual and is willing to scan it?
-
Long time lurker first time poster! I'm getting close to have all my turbo games cased up. However I'm missing covers for 3....Double Dungeons (I have a manual I can scan), Night Creatures, and Talespin. I'm using the color coded versions. Any help would be appreciated as I'd love to get them all. Thanks!
-
Welcome out of the shadows hm hm ha ha haaa!
I personally don't have any of those games yet but if you want to scan DD I could work on that.
In my last post on page 13 there are some links to tips about scanning.
Also feel free to post a pic of those TG cases or your shelf.
same goes for anyone else, would be nice to see some real life shots in the thread ;)
-------------------------------------------
I uploaded my 2 recent covers Air Zonk and Parsol Stars a while back
lumberjoof feel free to upload your covers
Also whats up with Turracan did you ever get a chance to rescan the cover and resize the shots?
If thats the best scan you can get of the cover then it should be fine it could just be the way the cover was printed or something
If I remember right back when i looked at it I think it just looked a little low rez.
Also I can probably do Ys since I have a better scan and am using it for my 8dp cd rom concept currently, I should be ably to take the pics and whip up the dvd case pretty quickly. I still have to create an and symbol in the turbo font. but also I may change the cd template( not sure yet until i get the 8dp concept done) since there are only 2 games complete and I made a bunch of logos for the cd and duo. plus none of the cds actually use the turbo font except for Fighting Street so the turbo font may get dropped for cds not sure yet- I do like the retro look of the font.
-
I don't think Turrican is getting any better, but I will try to scan it again soon. The screenshots should be easy enough though.
Let me know if you want my scan of Ys.

Here's a scan of Double Dungeon's Cover. I'll try to get a pic of my Turbo shelf this weekend. Thanks for your help!
-
Just checked out your scan, there is a lot of white grain in it not sure if its like this or if its your scanner or if its your scanner settings. and around the font seems a bit grainy. possibly check your scanner settings and see if there is some setting that would help. also there is a vertical bar of glare next to the spine if you put a black Tshirt flat over the manual then put the lid and then something about 2 pounds on top of the cover it may reduce or get rid of the glare.
-
I just opened my link and I saw how bad it looks. Funny thing is it didn't look that bad before I uploaded it. I tried rescanning it with your black shirt tip and messing with settings. Here is what I came up with.

Picked up a copy of World Class Baseball. I see that there was a cover made but no link to download. Can anyone help?
-
Watcher033 Thanks I will check it out closer soon, but the scan still looks a little funky to me, it may be your scanner.
BadChad should have world class baseball i think. I briefly looked to see if I have a copy but I could not find it.
I'm still working on the 8DPcase CD and the updated DVDcase CD but been pretty busy lately.
-
i couldnt find a useable copy of that world class baseball so i made one, its not great but gets the point across with what i could find online and only having mspaint at my disposal

I should have the 8dp versions done soon just going to print them out first. (finally got a decent printer)
I made a few minor changes to the 8dp template and will have an update in there soon, hopefully I will get out of wip stage with it.
(there were versions of these done a few pages back but the quality was too low)
(reminder to admin or TTT I did upload air zonk and parasol stars about 6+ months ago(to the aeroblasters name))
Up next for dvd covers will likely be Drop Off and Ballistix both of which I recommend not purchasing.

Nice, I see the latest TG covers are up.

You know, it wouldn't be a bad idea to have new member answer a series of questions before joining to weed out bots.
Such as:
What is the minimum dpi should a cover be scanned at?
a.) 96 dpi
b.) 300 dpi
c.) 600 dpi
d.) none of the above

Yeah, but we haven't even come to agreement on the DPI!
I say 600, but probably 450 is OK.
And I think it was you who said that scanning at the same resolution as the end cover should be the resolution so 300.
Which is the correct answer in the end??
:P ... ;D

The correct answer is always 'pancakes'.

OK, blame yourself! ;D

The answer is b, a minimum of 300 dpi. The key word being Minimum.

I think the answer should be: Minimum of 450DPI to give the leeway for artists. :P

Glad to see you're still making covers! I recently picked up a CIB TurboGrafx 16 and my only game right now is Raiden, but I've been saving all of them for when I start added more games to the collection. Has a cover been made for that one yet?
-
Nice welcome to the forum, and awesome that you just got a Turbo, pick up Blazing Lazers and Bonks Revenge asap (great common games) also check out "turbo views" on youtube here http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL75F8CCAC0D21A523
Sorry Raiden doesn't have a dvd cover yet, Bear78 (thanks for the scans) did scan it recently..
I may ask him for better scans though, using some different scanning settings.
-
anybody ever come up with anything for the Turbo Duo 4 in 1 (Gate of Thunder)? I would actually be looking for something CD size.
-
Not yet, I will eventually make an 8dp for it but it would be a while.
There is a rear jewel case insert if your interested, I would need to get permission to post it though.
-
That's actually what I'm mostly looking for is just a CD case back.
-
I have a template you can use to make the insert for Gate of Thunder.

This is awesome.. Any chance you could do one with the color coded spine?
-
Hmmm, haven't tried that yet. I'll mess around with it and see if I can do it. Give me a few days...
-
Here ya go, here's the yellow version (I'm assuming that's the right color). Due to the name size, I had to adjust the font size.

I beleive that is the correct color. Thanks, phase!

Gents,
I am now in need of Hit the Ice, Shockman, and Cadash color coded DVD covers. I know Bad Chad did a Cadash, but it never got uploaded into the main covers and he never posted a link to the image. I PM'd him a couple times with no response. If any of you skilled artisans has a few moments to put toward this worthy cause, I would appreciate it.
Danke,
-Dan

Can anyone help me on how to get downloaded the following
Page 8 of Forum, Cadash
Page 9 of Forum, Neutopia II
For some reason I can't get them.
Also if anyone has the following I would be very grateful if you could share
Cadash
Neutopia II
New Adventure Island
World Court Tennis
System Card 3.0 (Japanese version)
These are all I need to complete my TG16 cover collection
Thank You so much in advance for your help!!

Ive messed around with your template a bit to get it the way I like it so it would probably be easier for me to send you one of my finished covers and you can just match the screens to that.
EDIT:
R-Type:

I know it's probably a hopeless endeavor to ask about a 5-year-old post, but....
BadChad: R-Type is the only game in my TG16 collection that I don't have a cover for. Is there any chance that you could upload the covers from this picture? Do you still have the design saved somewhere?

Here you go!

+1 Thanks for the scans.
Funny, the Magical Chase must be a repro game.
It's actually from our cover here, made it from a box scan from akrate69. The box was a little rough -link

The manual shows a tad more of the right side of the art which is nice. Anyways, we could use a better MC scan someday.

I just used your DVD cover to make the CD sized one. I didn't mean to pass it off as a scan if that's how it came across lol. I got repos for both games and prefer to store them in CD cases instead of DVDs so I needed some CD sized artwork and spines.
