Title: Where to buy game
Post by: Nintendo-Atari-Sega-Nerd on May 16, 2010, 11:39:47 AM
Hi everybody I was wondering if you could give me any advice on were to buy NES/SNES/GEN/SMS... games other than ebay because the only place I go is gamebuzz (canada exclusif I think) but the games are quite expensive. Any help would be great thanks.

I get most my classic games from pawn shops. You'd be surprised how many games some pawn shops carry. Plus they don't know what they have so you can get them really cheap.

Yup, Pawn shops are a pretty good bet. Car-boot sales are where i pick up most things old, although with that damned interweb thingy, most people there know the worth of stuff. Still goes cheaper than retro stores or e-bay though. This morning, i found Super Mario Advance 2 for GBA (boxed and in mint condition for £5, its going for £10 cart only on the bay and up to almost £30 in this kind of condition) and Probotector, Snake,Rattle & Roll and Rygar for NES (unboxed but £2 each).

Yup, Pawn/Hock shops are the place to look. I found a complete copy of Panic Restaurant for the NES for 5$ and that game goes for about 250$ on ebay. I always try to check them a couple times a week as you never know when something good might come in and wouldnt wanna miss out on it.

generally, local used game shops and ebay. you can occasionally find a good deal for either, if you know what to look for.

pawn shops are illegal in Pennsylvania, but I live like 10 minutes from Ohio.  1st pawn shop I ever went to... had Sega Genesis's "John Madden 93 Football - Championship Edition" for $3.  Can easily sell it for $100 =D.  ALWAYS THINK OF PAWN SHOPS AND SALVATION ARMIES/THIFT STORES!!!

Well they take donations so if someone happens to drop off a box of games then yeah they'll have some.

You people have never thought of pawn shops, thrift stores, flea markets, etc etc etc?

Where do you THINK people find stuff like this locally?

Anyhow, keep in mind that, especially for older stuff, you're not likely to find more than a handful of games at each place. Keep looking though, you'll either stumble onto a game or two you're wanting or you'll hit a goldmine.

yard sales are one of your best bets.   but its all hit and miss. 1 stop might have nothing but another might have some old nes games.  My father in law found me Chrono Trigger in MINT shape in a box of games for 30 bucks (he made a 600 dollar profit on that box and that was AFTER giving me Chrono Trigger)

Anyone ever hear of Kijiji? Its pretty much a site where you can post things your selling and you buy them yourself directly from the seller in person. You can browse locally so you only search for things in your area. Today I found a copy of Metal Gear and a 76-In-1 pirate cart for the NES for 5$ and the guy just lived about 2 minutes away from me.

Ive gotten a good few games for pretty cheap from people who live no further than a couple minutes away like an NES Challenge Set complete in box in great shape with 17 games for like 50$ and the guy even dropped it off for me. Thats another option to check.

@Badchad
Yeah I've already heard of kijiji but in my town there is not a lot of retro gamer or at least people that dont mind selling the games. There's also craigslist.com that's my gaming spot.

@Everyone who replied
thanks for the advice
