Title: spotted any TCP cases in the wild?
Post by: AppleQueso on May 14, 2010, 02:20:58 PM
I was at a local play n trade today and to my suprise saw a copy of Final Fantasy Tactics using Shenske's cover art. This is a pretty small town too.

Found it amusing to say the least.

Anybody else ever catch TCP covers in the wild?

I went back to the town I used to live in back in college. Love the flea market there, specifically one particular vendor.

Turns out they really love The Cover Project, as many of their games had been recased using various covers from the site. I even found my Daytona USA: CCE cover being used.

Edit: OMG, 666 posts.

I've seen my Link's Crossbow training cover at the Gamestop I work at a while back. I don't know who brought it in or if they knew i made it, haha  ;D

That is awesome. I also wonder if I shouldn't built something using Google Maps to map the "In the wild" cases you've spotted places.

If someone buys it when you're there, tell them you made it.

haha weird! i work at a Play n Trade in Montana, and I totally use TCP covers for any game that doesn't have original cover art...so much better than having blank cases!

I haven't seen any of our covers use around where I live, but if I can ever bring myself to sell any games that I've used TCP covers for (or any games in general ;) ), I'll be sure to slip in a piece of paper telling people where they can find more of the same. :)

I haven't knowingly saw any of ours even though I always look for them.  Every now and then I think about printing some off and sneaking them into used game stores :P

This reminds me of another topic, from few weeks back ...

Oh, yeah this: http://www.thecoverproject.net/forums/index.php?topic=3579.0

Benefiting moneywise from our free covers (adding sales value) ...

And bragging about it here ...

I don't think he's claiming any of the work here as his own, and I think that's something I'd personally do if I owned a Play N Trade, as long as I spread the word in some way about this site. It's not like he's selling them off as special or anything. I say let's leave that debate for that "other topic" we all know so well by now.

Yeah, I don't really think it's a problem that charlie (and whoever else) is using our covers at all. I'd much prefer it if all used game stores used downloaded covers as opposed to those horrible generic ones!

Making a profit off of them is one thing. All he's doing is giving his customers a visual and a description - rarely do the generic covers say anything about a game other than the title.

A couple of the Play N Trades in Miami have used covers from the site. I even got a couple of UGCs that way for some N64 games, but the downside was that they used Black and White instead of color... so close yet so fail
