I'm planning on purchasing one of Adobe's creative suite 5 packages, (if not just photoshop and flash), but I'm torn between Design and Production. Reason for Design is because of inDesign. (Design cost more than Production btw)
Are inDesign and illistrator similar programs?

They are two very differnt programs.
inDesign is for desktop publishing, kind of like MS Word on steroids, very good program if your doing working on page layouts.
Illistrator is for doing vector based artwork and drawings, personally I prefer to use Flash instead.

Ah okay, It's been awhile since I used Illustrator so I forgotten how that works again!
Anyways, I'm figuring if inDesign have more features for say re-typing the text on the covers (with proper formatting, spacing, bold, etc) than the updated version of Photoshop. If so, I'll consider inDesign; if not, then I'll won't.

I would say illustrator is by far the most useful program for a cover designer other that photoshop. I use it to build all my vector logos and still has the convenience of working as a document editor.
