Title: Print an outline around Covers?
Post by: Firefly636 on April 17, 2010, 10:30:53 PM
So, i'm using adobe photoshop CS2 to print all my covers.
I'm not very experienced with the program, but all i'm wanting to do is be able to print a black outline around the covers that I print out.
This would make it much easier for me to cut out predominately white colored covers.
If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated.

Also, on June 8th i'll be getting a CANOSCAN LIDE 200 flatbed scanner, and i'll be uploading a lot of ps1 raws and 360 retail game covers.
Just wanted to let people know, and if you'd like a list I could post it.

Yeah I do the same thing, makes cutting easier, it's easy.  Double click on the layer and add a stroke.

Could you go a little more in-depth with that?
It's not doing anything when i double click?

If you're printing a dvd-case cover, I recommend UnderCoverXP, a free little [<1mb] program which automatically adds cutting guidelines when it prints.

For UGC covers, I usually just create a new image, a few pixels larger than the cover, which is black. Then you just copy+paste the cover on that. But MisterCreazil's suggestion sounds like it might be easier.

I also use CS2. All you have to do is open the image, go to Image -> Canvas Size, and then slightly increase both the width and height (I usually do 2 pixels for each), and at the bottom where it says "Canvas Extension Color", set it to Black or any other color that will contrast with the cover.

Thank you very much MisterCreazil and the7k.
What creazil suggested wasn't working for me (I still couldn't figure it out), but definately thank you anyways!
I got the7k's method on the first try, and since i'm about to print close to 50 more covers, I definately wanna thank you for making it easier.
I really love this site, and the fact that any time you need help that you get a quick response.
Thanks again Guys!

Honestly, I recommending using a paper cutter for covers. I use one a the UPS store by my house (for free by the way) and the cutter has measurements so I can make sure every cover is cut exactly the same each time.
