Seems there is quite many spams today.
Is it possible to have quarantine time for new members like no posting until you have been member at least few days or max 1 post per day for the first week.
Or that the newbie has to prove that he/she is a person before posting is allowed.
-
I see no such option in the admin settings. We could try guest admins, but I wouldn't do anything without Snowcone's approval.
-
Spam is REALLY annoying! In less than the last 24hrs I've deleted 15+ posts.
I think 1 post per day within the first week of becoming a member wouldnt be too bad. We would be able to catch them within that first week so there wouldn't be a need for limiting beyond then.
-
Last thing we need to do is restrict members in any way I think. I know I would be pissed if I signed up on the forum just to find out I couldn't post for a whole day.
Adbots happen, not much you can do about it except try to place more anti-bot measures in when registering. Better Captchas or some anti-bot questions in the registration form would help a bit with that.
-
The only easy thing to do is more forum admins. Any volunteers if Snowcone is okay with it?
-
I wouldn't mind doing it, I've admined some small places before.
-
I'm all for implementing some more security features when signing up.
That would almost certainly keep some bots away....
Some additional people who help sweep the forum wouldn't hurt either.
We could put them in the Global moderator group and give them delete/edit/ban rights!
I strongly suggest though to only let long time regular reliable members do this.
Apple would be ok I guess.... ;D

I sign on here about every day, so I wouldn't mind deleting a bit of spam every time it came up. Sometimes I wish I could delete it myself anyway ;)
I agree with AppleQueso though, limiting post counts would be good in theory but definitely frustrating. I often see new members being pretty chatty anyhow. Maybe limit it to one thread per day? Spammers generally don't post in established threads unless that's something even I haven't seen. I know some spambots can PM you though, I've seen it happen on Noobtoob a few times.

I don't like the idea of limiting posts/etc. Icky.
I once said something to Snowcone over IM about volunteering to be a "SPAM Clean-up only mod" - i.e.: I'd only axe SPAM posts and anything else I'd leave to the real guys. Never heard anything from him about it. :(
For the record, I am already a moderator at the NintendoWorldReport.com forums. :)

We're talking about it behind closed doors.

Everyone is supportive, I just need to contact Snowcone.

I check the site numerous times a day, and I'd be willing to help remove the spam posts.
-
I'd also be keen to help keep the forum free of spam.

But you let in Homer Glumplich... ;)
A helping hand in removing spam would be nice. The first thing I do when I sign on is deleting posts and banning people before I get to read any new posts.

I for one would absolutely love to, but without a working PC I'm not of much use right now. Plus AQ seems a bit more fit. This is the first forum that I've really been active at.
