Anyone can now access the full set of raw scans that have been uploaded. If you complete a cover using these scans, feel free to PM me and I'll remove the raw scans.
EDIT:
Instead of sending Snowcone a PM you could just post here whenever you used a raw scan. This way the weight and work is not on his shoulders alone and the other mods and admins can delete them.
-
That's a great idea! Thanks for setting that up.
Btw, you're really trying to clear the ENTIRE backlog? Or "just" the covers uploaded via the "upload a cover" link? I'd like to see the PS2 section getting a little boost with some of my covers or the PC section ;)
-
Ok, let me rephrase. I am trying to clear out the backlog of uploaded covers, not the 56,000 covers you FTPed up. I think we both know that's going to take some weeks. :)
-
Whaaaaaaaaaaat!!!!!!
There were 56,000 covers uploaded????
Are these raw uploads or remade perfectly postable covers?
If finished covers then who did this crazy amount? ;D
Regards Seb
-
56,000 is a little bit of an exaggeration, but Kaiser went and found about 1000 ps2 covers ready to be run through my resizer script and posted as they are already 300dpi. Needless to say, that's going to take some time to get done.

OK , ok :D Guilty as charged. I know it's probably pretty tiresome to go through these all. I was just reading "clearing the backlog" and my people's eyebrow raised from amazement :D
-
The raw scan of Super Double Dragon can be removed....
I allready uploaded the complete and finished cover.... ;D

Why are there only sections for Dreamcast, PS1, gba, n64, nes, psp, and snes? What about the other systems? I think it doesn't matter much, because I can just post the link. Still, other systems a possibility?

Of course they are, these are just folders that currently exists as we haven't had raw scans for the others.

Sorry. >.> Good job on implementing this then.
-
I moved all raw scans to the raw folder which can be accessed via the link in the first post. That way everyone can check what scans we have and work on the covers. I have also created new folders for other consoles as there were a few scans for them. I'll add new folders as the scans to games for consoles that aren't already listed come in.
Snowcone set up that all new raw scans get added to the folder and I'll put them in their proper platform folder.
-
Ok, I just uploaded a RAW scan of the Megaman 7 cover for SNES. Can someone look at it, and let me know if it's usable? Thanks.
-
Unfortunately not. The covers were just scanned at 96dpi, we need 300dpi. Would you mind scanning them again at 300dpi and uploading them?
-
sure, no problem. i have to look at my scanner settings and readjust. thanks
-
Ok, I re-uploaded the Castlevania Dracula X cover, hope my scan settings were right this time guys, let me know. There is more coming from me for the Super NES:
Rise of the Robots
TMNT 4: Turtles In Time
Megaman 7
Would anyone be intrested in some super famicom covers? I have Rockman & Forte, Rockman 7... a few others I think. Let me know
-
Your Castlevania X and Mega Man 7 scans were alright! Thanks. I've added them to the snes section in the raw scans accessible via the link in the first post.
And there's definitely great interest in your Famicom scans. If not from the people who actually own the Japanese version of the games then from people who want to create custom covers, or just for variety's sake :)
-
Im doing Ninja Turtles 4 and Rise of the Robots now!! I'll dig out the Super Famicom covers tonight. Also uploaded Megaman X2.
-
Ok guys, looks like Megaman X2 and Castlevania Dracula X are done!! There is more coming from me:
Little Nemo The Dream Master (NES)
Mortal Kombat 3 (SNES)
Rockman 7 (Super Famicom)
Rockman & Forte (Super Famicom)
Also I have the Super Famicom version of Super Metroid if thats not already here on the site.
I ordered Super Mario World (NTSC/US) complete in box off e-bay, so when I recieve it, I'll upload the raw images for that cover as well.
Does anyone need any of the Castlevania covers for NES? I have them all if there are not already being worked on.
-
I haven't seen Castlevania 3 anywhere so I suppose I'd be great if you could scan that.
-
Alright, heres some more RAW scans from me:
Rockman & Forte (Super Famicom)
Rockman 7 (Super Famicom)**Would be cool if someone could not only make this into a usable cover, but maybe use the Japanese artwork for a custom Megaman 7 U.S. cover as well, just an idea I'm throwing out there, since there seems to be intrest in custom Megaman covers**
Little Nemo The Dream Master (NES)
Mortal Kombat 3 (Super NES)
Im also going to have a raw scan of Castlevania 3: Dracula's Curse coming just as soon as I dig the box out of the closet, and Super Mario World just as soon as it arrives from Ebay. :-X
-
I know it's all my fault, but the file "Doom.raw_gc_smoothmoves_wii.jpg" is actually a Wii cover. I messed up and said it was Gamecube.
-
Don't worry. I just fixed it.
EDIT:
I deleted the Flashback and Axelay raw scans. They were made into covers and have been added to the site, so anyone who wants to mess with the cover to create custom ones can use the finished cover. I'll delete the raw scans as soon as the finished cover has been added to the site if that's ok with everyone???
-
That seems logical. Go for it.
-
All the raw scans have been added to their proper platform folders. The SNES raw scans folder is getting crowded more and more :)
-
Just wondering if there is some sort of system in place to stop users taking and working on the same raw scans.
I noticed some are prefixed with ******, does this mean they're already done?
I guess maybe the best way is to find out who works with what system and just talk to each other.
-
Oh, sorry, I thought I mentioned it. You're right Bungleboss, if a scan is marked with "***" it means that a finished cover has been uploaded and is on the ftp waiting to be added. I read every thread here so when someone says he created a cover from the scans and uploaded it I'll mark the cover "***".
Sorry for the confusion here. That of course doesn't mean that others aren't working on the same game you're working on. But at least you can see what is already completed. I guess it will be a good idead for the cover makers to post here or in the "New SNES/N64/or whatever consoles"-covers" threads when you start working on a cover with the raw scans.
-
ok guys, I just uploaded the long awaited Super Mario World RAW scans!! Whenever it's done, could someone please post a link to the finished product? Im excited to finally get this game laid to rest, and cased. Thanks
-
I got a 404 every time I tried to upload something, but there are many scans here: http://www.thecoverproject.net/forums/index.php?topic=471.15
Ah. Going to the link at beginning of thread I see that they DID upload. Thing is, some of the scans that went up aren't as good as the ones in the thread. These are the problem ones with the better ones following:
http://www.thecoverproject.net/uploads/raw/GBA/groovemeister.raw_gba_yi%20back_gb.jpg -> http://www.b3ta.cr3ation.co.uk/data/jpg/yiback.jpg
http://www.thecoverproject.net/uploads/raw/GBA/groovemeister.raw_gba_mvsdk%20back_gb.jpg -> http://www.b3ta.cr3ation.co.uk/data/jpg/mvsdkback.jpg
http://www.thecoverproject.net/uploads/raw/GBA/groovemeister.raw_gba_alttp%20back_gb.jpg -> http://www.b3ta.cr3ation.co.uk/data/jpg/alttpback.jpg
Although with ALttP it may be worth making use of both scans as the box is actually patterned all over, so being scanned the back with the spine going both ways to capture all the detail for the back bit gives you everything (however the one with the left to the right is the one that’ll want to be used as the other way means the right is never scanned as clearly due to the right hand spine being twice as think and making the back not sit properly).
Anyway, that's that. Should I upload all these tyhat are in the thread I linked to via the website too?
-
Not sure if it was being worked on but I made a cover (my first non raw upload) for Aladdin(SNES) based on the raws that were available. It is my first so if it sucks or something is wrong with it no need to post it, I made it for my own copy and figured I should upload it.
Please let me know if it isn't up to snuff so I correct on the next cover I do.

I am no expert, but it looks great to me. Thank you very much. I have been waiting for this one. The kids should be able to find it now without digging through the rest of my coverless games.

Thanks but I am not sure that one is mine, it appears cleaner, The font stands out more. I need to read these forums to see if there are some good photoshop tips for cleaning these things up.

It is yours.... I just did the last little bit of tweaking to make it look nicer... ;)
-
Thanks any tips for cleaning them up? How did you make the text so much clearer? Adjust the levels?

It's a long way of learning my friend... Can't explain you photoshop in one post.... ;)
I'm learning to work(as a hobby) with photoshop for about one and half year now and I don't know too much either....
Besides for a first try it did look quite nice!
-
You know, I just realized that the title of this topic is misleading. You don't actually SAY how to work with them. You just set up a link to the raw scans section, so people can work on them.

Yes but long before you joined the forums normal users couldn't access the raws section.... So when this topic was started it was possible for the first time to work with raw scans for normal users....

Great idea!
What about scans that were uploaded, but not as raws - how long does that typically take to post? I posted a few psp covers, but I got them all from cdcovers.cc (not sure if that matters, and I put them as the author) and was just wondering if that's something that I can't do (this site is much easier to navigate with and for covers I'd like them all here rather than there). Let me know, thanks.

the covers from cdcovers.cc are almost always pretty low rez and a low DPI
all covers on the site must be a minimum of 300dpi so that could be why they are not hosted.
(plus it usually takes a while anyways after they are uploaded)
-
Yeah sometimes it takes up to a month for a cover to be approved or rejected.

Sorry for any delays!!!
You know, it's time consuming to add covers. We have to download them from the ftp, check them for resolution, renaming them to a certain standard, checking if the game's and artitst's name is already in the database, adding them to the database if they're not and checking if there are other versions of this cover on the site.
After all that we have to upload the covers to a certain location before we can finally add them one by one.
I do know and understand that everyone is proud of their covers and that it took time and effort to create them. It's just that there are new covers uploaded everyday and it's hard to keep up. After all we all have a life outside this forums.
A month ago we completely cleared the queue of covers, now a month later there are (as of right now) 215 covers, and that's not counting all the covers Lumberjack42 has in his own folder :)
This is not meant to be a lame excuse for not adding covers daily, we even encourage everybody to make as many covers as they can and upload them to the site. It was just to give you guys a little look behind the curtain. We are just a handful of people and you are an army :D
Please be patient and understand that we try to add covers as fast as we can. Sometimes they're up the next day, sometimes it takes a little longer.
@nate1749:
It's not a problem to grab covers from cdcovers.cc and upload them here, actually quite a lot of people (unfortunately) do that...
But it's just as Shenske said, the majority of their covers is below 300dpi and not up to our standards. I don't see your covers in the queue so I suppose whoever checked them deleted them for that reason :-[ Sorry for that.
-
My only complaint is when covers are removed there is no thread or notice indicating what was wrong with the cover. Some of us might be able to repair minor defects we may not have noticed, but when a cover is deleted or rejected with no notice we are just left scratching our heads wondering why.
As you indicate a lot of work is put into some covers, sometimes several hours or days. If another hour or two of work would have fixed what we missed, I for one would prefer to know.
I understand the admins are swamped, and am only offering this as a suggested improvement to the procedures.

Be sure, most of the covers we (at least I) delete are from non regular members or people who don't post here, people who upload anything they have and don't care about the standards :( Most of the time it's because the covers are (way) too low in dpi or from the likes of cdcovers.cc or other cover sites and there's not too much you can do to resubmit that cover of you didn't create it yourself ;)
I can assure you, if I or one of the other admins see(s) one of your covers or form other regulars (or at least people we've seen posting and know are reading the forums) we'll PM you or make a post.
Not to sound harsh, but we made several posts where we described the standards of this site, the standards the covers should apply to. If you (I don't mean you personally Anthony) don't see your cover it's either being processed or is not up to par, and I personally won't bother anymore telling people why I deleted their covers and point out the standards over and over again.
If you have a question regarding your covers then PM me or another admin.
Again, I don't want to sound harsh, that's just the way I see and handle it.
-
Thank's I appreciate it. If a flaw is pointed out in one of my covers I will do whatever I can to resolve it, or at worst provide raws for someone more talented.

-
Kaiser: Perhaps on the "upload a cover page" there could be a link to a standards page (rather than scattered out throughout several posts?). Just an idea.
I completely forgot about the 300dpi thing, and is probably why mine we're deleted, I'll check though.
Also, you describe a # of steps that are involved to get them actually posted, maybe you could put up some hints or optional items that people who upload covers could do (like name them properly for you) so that it would save you time and speed up the overall process. Sounds like snowcone needs some more admins too!

I've uploaded some time ago Tekken Tag Tournament for PS2. At least was the best i could do. There's was too many artifacts and i've cleaned near entirely, but in the middle of the front cover, there's a huge defect and my Photoshop Skills aren't that good.
If someone have time, take a look at it. Thanks.
-
There is a way to see the queue
http://thecoverproject.net/uploads/
These are the covers that will have to be checked and eventually added. You can also add several more covers which have been downloaded from the queue and are on the admin's HDDs.

Wow I swear I looked a few times for it. Must be too much Florida sun. Was trying to find which NES covers were not uploaded to update my completion count.

I have PS Vita games I want to upload, but the "Upload a Cover" feature only allows me to pick from the list of games. What should I do?

Hey, I took a crack at the Ace Attorney cover that was in the raw scans linked in OP. No idea if anyone checks this anymore, but there you have it.

link to the raw scans is dead
Links to the raw scans are indeed dead. You quoted a statement from 1/26/07. That section was made 14 years ago with scans from 14-20 year old scanners. The quality is terrible and no one uploaded to it. So we decided to take it down. Covers are uploaded to personal dropbox / drive / hosting sites and shared on the forums instead. Check out the Search button on the forums to find a bunch of goodies you maybe looking for :)
