Rules are simple you play and record SMB either a max of twice through or until you die 5 times. Then you submit the video. We go on a combination of score and best time. Full rules and regulations are posted at vgmastersclub.com

isn't this just a zelda cart, w/ a new label n game put in it?
-
Clearly, but I dont think thats the point :)
-
Also, I cannot see how this will all work without cheating. People are pretty good at modifying their vids.
-
Actually it's an original SMB/Duck Hunt cart with gold paint, no Zelda carts were hurt in the process.
As for cheating, someone would have to be flawless at modifying vids for me not to catch it. Besides it would be easier just to beat it as SMB isn't that hard.
That being said only one person has even submitted a video to me so it'll be awhile before anyone wins as I want at least 20 or so individual submissions.

So... you painted it by hand? Hope it doesn't peel off!

I would post a vid up, but cant get past 300K points + 14'ish minutes... so dont know how that one person got 467k, but, not worth upping if only one prize, sorry
-
Yeah I thing it should be alright peelwise as my bro instructed me on how to do it properly so it will last, but with the tight top loader systems, who knows...
Well here's the thing ShoothimNow, that 467,000 that's posted didn't beat the game once, let alone twice through. I do a formula to figure out the point total. So basically you a score that is less than that when factoring in time completed would actually be a lot more than not completing the game.
About the only one prize, it's a free contest and I'm making no money off of it just doing it for fun so I think having a prize at all is a bonus. If I don't get many submissions the plan is to have the game on display at SGC as well to get more gamers to play.
-
I have gone through 2 sets ( 8 ) battery's trying to record, cant do it 5 lives, sorry
-
Well you can always submit your highest score after dieing 5 times. The current leader hasn't even beaten it yet and only got to about World 5 or so...
-
Ive done my hardest, got to world 8, got a freaking awesome score as fast as I could (speed ran every level), and my score, using their formula was only 300k. so having 580k points and having to go to 300k points, and yet still get 467k or so to BEAT the champ, yeah, I would rather play some marble madness
-
Hell yeah Marble Madness is an amazing game as well! Just remember though that the formula doesn't go into effect until you beat the game twice. So basically if you scored higher than the current champ and both of you didn't complete the game, your higher score would be #1.
Now if someone else actually does make it through twice, then that person would be automatically above anyone who didn't complete it. And from there is when the formula is used because the time the game is completed in isn't factored in if the game isn't completed. Ya Digg?
-
Speed running every level grants more points than warp zones, seems a little unfair to say that those who use warp zones to complete the game faster are rewarded more.
I understand if Mario is standing there and collecting every coin and breaking every box, so I shall contemplate on recording again. Though I would have to upload at least 3 videos to youtube due to the 10 minute time limit
-
Using warpzones you won't have nearly as high of a score then if you played all the way through. But if you can't beat the game going all the way through then you need to make a choice of when and where to take a warp to bypass any levels you may get stuck on. Strategy is where it's at!
As for hosting, I wouldn't recommend youtube for longer videos. I use blip.tv for anything over 10 minutes. Then if you have a large youtube following, you can post a link to blip on your youtube in the form of a promo video. But for recording gaming footage blip is perfect. I have also had one guy send me a zip file with the video in it, which is fine as well.
