Title: Looking for scanner recommendations
Post by: GarysGames on July 10, 2023, 04:06:25 AM
Hi all. Have been editing and printing covers for a while now and looking to start scanning. I have around 4000 unique games in my collection but I just don't know what scanner to get.

I've found this one seems to be sold by a lot of retailers in Australia. Just looking for opinions as I have no idea what to look for.

I'd say Canon is usually great if not even the best choice.
Canon has great software at least on printer/scanner combos.

Thanks for the input. I found a cheap secondhand canon lide300 which as far as I can see, the only difference is the scanning resolution. 2400 on the lide300 and 3600 on the lide400.

From reading posts on here they prefer to use 2400dpi to avoid excess image artefacts. Right now I'm thinking that's the best option.

600DPI is enough, 1200DPI might cause artifacts.

Just to throw a wrench on this conversation,

My old Epson AIO died recently. I replaced it with a multi-tank Canon AIO.

By I stroke of luck I rescanned a decal I had scanned with the Epson not long before it died. Comparing both the Epson and Canon scans, the Epson was much better quality.

Also (in my opinion) the Epson software was better and easier to use.

Having said that, the Epson was 10 years old and I cant speak for what software they might be shipping out with these days.
