Title: Paper suggestions, covers, manuals
Post by: JemmyPaeg on March 22, 2023, 02:27:53 PM
I recently had a falling out with my local staples, after years of having to have covers printed 2-3 times and tell them which selections to make to fit actual size, and finally having covers printed on a printer they knew needed servicing so was outputting everything in purple and still charging me..........

So I bought a printer! Now I'm planning on doing my own covers as well as manuals for SNES, NES, N64, etc. The most challenging thing I'm finding is just getting a paper similar to the originals. Does anyone have paper suggestions that is similar to a modern DVD based consoles cover paper, and suggestions for something like a SNES manual?

The cover paper Staples had that I used for years was just labeled 80lb double sided cover paper in their system, but they don't sell it. It had the absolute perfect weight and sheen to it. I've gone down the photo paper route and glossy is way too glossy, thickness all over the place despite the advertised weight and gsm. I can't seem to find anything that has that slight sheen and smoothness that covers would normally have which I think would also be similar for manuals.

I've ordered a couple of types of matte photo paper to try as well, waiting on those to arrive, I have a suspicion a coated photo paper has some sheen even when matte. The other challenge is 11x17 paper seems to have a lot less options, and 8.5x14 almost none.

Any suggestions and help is appreciated, I know they go behind a gloss cover anyways, but I'm extremely picky for no reason and the manuals especially I want to feel somewhat authentic.

Thank you!
