UncleBob's poll for the GC Memory Card cover (http://www.thecoverproject.net/forums/index.php?topic=3262.msg30580#new) has really sparked my interest.
I was thinking about covers for the periphery that actually fits into DVD, DS or Universal Game Cases. Right now I have all the controllers and stuff in a drawer, like most people. But I would love to integrate them into my collection if it's possible. I don't have a UGC to test, but I tested it with a VHS case and they have pretty much the same dimensions in width.
So I was thinking, is there an interest in covers for a Wii classic controller, or a Dreamcast VMU, or a Playstation memory card or maybe even the Street Fighter IV Fight Pads? I guess the cases would require some serious modding, like cutting all the plastic inside an UGC to fit the controller in, and without further modification it will probably rattle around too. But I'm just asking about the general interest here. If this idea is picked up we could sort out the little things as we go.
Oppinions?
-
I think that's an awesome idea. I made a few for my Dreamcast VMU's, PS2 DVD remote and controller extensions for SNES, DC, Gamecube and XBOX as well as memory cards covers for PS1, PS2 and GC. None of them are up to the standards of this site but if somebody did make them I'm sure they would be appreciated.
-
Maybe the VHS covers will work, because they don`t have too much plastic to cut inside it.
I will love to have my controllers, memory cards & other things displayed in my shelf in this cases.
-
The problem with cutting plastic to fit controllers is that, if the plastic isn't cut cleanly enough, it could cut your cords.
Aside from that, it's a good idea.

I love Dremels....cut, sand, grind, sharpen.....its a very handy tool
-
Its not really that hard to cut out the extra pieces inside the UGC even with an Xacto Blade so i don't really see that being a problem. I had the same idea and in fact I'm already doing this in some ways. I've used the UGCs for housing my portable systems, extra cords & some controllers. You can kind of get an idea of what systems fit inside them from one of the pictures below.
I don't have any of my boxes for my systems (they are in storage at my grandparent's house). If i did have them i would have already scanned in the boxes and made some inserts for the portables i have.
Here are some of my portable in UGCs lined up (taken w/ my phone)
Here is the inside of the case thats housing my NDSlite w/ the power cable :)
The cases are really nice for storing any sort of things. currently use them for my portables, SNES controllers, NES controllers, GEN controllers, GBC trading cable, PS3 sensors for my guncon, PS1/PS2 memory card reader for my PS3, etc ... the list can go on forever. ;D
-
Hmm... not bad. This might actually give me a reason to order some UGCs. It'd be nice to not have my portables just lying around.
-
Really nice, I liked a lot of that idea, the only problem is that I live in brazil and I can't order UGCs (they're will cust A LOT!)
-
@ shenske - I was planning to do the same with multi disc DVD cases for my portable systems.
I can scan the boxes for GBA, GBA micro, NDS Lite, PSP if required.
Also just noticed that my game.com fits snugly into a vhs case too.
Just need to find a suitable recepticle for the game gear now!
-
Yeah, my Neo Geo Pocket Color fits great in a UGC (I only have one - got it from an EB a long time ago). I've still got the box, so I'll scan that in and make something for it.
-
Dude, the portable game system UGC's are a great idea! My drawer is so cluttered with chargers portables, and controllers that it's impossible to find anything these days. 15 N64 games wasn't enough to warrant a purchase of 100 UGC's but this definitely is :D
As for boxes, I've got the Daxter PSP, a black NDS Lite , the Mario Kart NDS Phat, and a kinda beat up one for the original GBA (ice blue or something...). Also the LG enV 2 if anyone actually keeps their phone somewhere other than on their person.
Nice handwriting btw ;D
-
Wow shenske.. this has to be the greatest idea i've EVER!!
I've been trying to figure out how I can store my portables in a stylish manner and this is it!
This is where they are right now:
(GBA couldn't fit and DSi I use all the time)
Sisters also have Crimson and White DS Lites.
I can only imagine how awesome these would look in UGC's... :)
-
I've been considering doing this with 8 and 10 disc dvd cases. Glad to see I'm not the only one.
I can scan the Game Gear and Game Boy Colour boxes if needed, both in fairly good condition.
-
I suppose a normal GameBoy and an old DS won't fit in an UGC especially the old Game Boy.
A Game Gear will also be a problem not to mention a Lynx, Nomad or Turbo Express....
-
I tried my original Game Boy in a 10-disc DVD case, which is considerably wider than a UGC, and yeah, it doesn't fit.
-
Yeah, I noticed that my DS doesn't fit. Oh well, I found somebody willing to trade my DS for a 3DO (the 3DO I just bought turned out to be a dud) and considering GameStop would probably only give me $40 (at most) for it, I guess it's time to get rid of it and get a DS Lite.
-
I can get some boxes from work for some of the newer handheld hardware boxes but they are display boxes so it may not match up perfectly. I'm glad to see everyone really likes this idea but in order to get the ball rolling ... start scanning! ;D
@sheep2001
Yes please do scan in your boxes for GBA, GBAmicro, NDSlite & PSP
@the7k
Umm ... I'm not sure if what you have is a UGC. My NeoGeoPocket Color is too big for the case and will barely close even if i force it shut. And just an FYI the original NDS does fit in the case but just as the GBC it is a bit snug and bulges a bit.
@z0mbiew0lf
Funny you find my handwriting nice, i wrote those very quickly. Please do scan in your boxes for Daxter PSP, black NDS Lite , the Mario Kart NDS Phat and the original GBA (regardless of condition it will get things rolling).
@Paul
Thats a lot of portables! The GBC does fit in the UGC but a little snug ... it bulges a little bit but closes fine. I'd be happy to make some cases for a bunch of those systems if you have the boxes :)
@thedrowningman
Please do scan in your GBC & GG boxes! Even though the UGC can't hold the GG it would still be nice to have the scan on file untill we find a suitable container to hold it in.
-
unfortunately, the only boxes that I have are the more recent ones (DS lite, DSi, possibly DS phat) I think.. I'll have to dig through the attic one of these days.
And for anyone wondering, I got those gameboy colors when they were clearanced at gamestop for $2.50 each, so I figured it would be cool to get one of every color :)
I pulled a UGC out to go through and test how each of my systems fit in the case.
-
@ Shenske
That's strange. It has things like "CD", "Electronic Arts", "Sega", and "Super Nintendo" written inside of it, so I figured it was a UGC.
-
Alright. So I tested which handhelds of my bunch fit and which didn't. As mentioned, the gargantuan original gameboy had no chance of fitting in a UGC, as well as the DS Phat. But, the rest of them fit nicely (except for the GBC which bulges but still closes). I'm really excited about this project and I hope we can get some boxes scanned in soon! :)
-

Yeah, I've got a... "Unicase Australia" which has 'Nintendo', 'Super Nintendo', 'Sega', and 'Game Boy'. So I assume there were various companies making these things, but only UGC's are still in production.

Anyone tried to put a controller inside an UGC to see if it fits nice?
-
Ummm I guess I'll have a go at this...
For reference... the Fat Black case is out there, as I have many... don't know where they originated from as I swapped out MediaShelving cases for the black ones at work
If it fits in a MS UGC, then it would fit in the fat black. However, some fit the fat black without bulging/forcing.
Just throwing some possibilities out there (N/A = not tested)

I got a bunch of display boxes from work last night and scanned them in so i got some good stuff to work with. Here is one to get things started. The Front and back are slightly edited to add a little color to the cover. Time to run to work! More colors and covers coming soon!

wow. this is turning out even better than I imagined...
beautiful work shenske! :)
-
me likey! ;D
-
That's great!!!
Anyone knows if the DS lite and the other handhelds fit in an VHS case?
-
The DS Lite does. I can check some others tomorrow after work if no one else does it before then.
-
While making all these fancy peripheral covers, someone should make my paddle controller cover... :)
http://www.thecoverproject.net/forums/index.php?topic=2979.0
-
...and maybe a cover for a Dreamcast VMU in a DS case, euro DS case preferrably ;) You know, the ones with the bigger spine. As DS cases have pretty much the same size as PAl DC cases it fits nicely and looks good on a shelf :)
No rush though, this is not a formal request. More of a brainstorming.
That's not to say I wouldn't be pleasently surprised to see a Wii classic controller, Gamecube Hori digital controller (black) or Xbox360 Street Fighter IV Fight Pad (Ken Design) pop up here :D
-

I have scans for the wii classic controller :D (still not sure if it will fit though, i dont have one to test)
I don't have anything for the Street Fighter IV pads but i do have Street Fighter 20th Anniversary controllers and boxes (both Akuma) for the original xbox & ps2

Uploaded in the RAWs/GameCube directory, you'll find scans from 02/08 that include the Japanese Indigo Hori controller and the US Black Hori controller. :)

awesome! I needed the black one for my DS Lite too!
amazing work shenske!
-
Here is an idea ala WarioWare Twisted for the portables and such that are too wide for 1 UGC. I used 6 nuts and bolts instead of 4 to make up for the size difference of the case. Portable used for the pics is my FC Mobile II (the deminsions of this portable nes are almost the exact same as the original gameboy) ;D

sure you over size the spine and then cut in half... might look weird.... but it could be done
-
Great ideia shenske, but there is an way of putting an cover in that?
Yeah ... with a lot of difficulty. I'm removed the clear plastic overlay from the two cases and am going to put a new larger clear sheet over it and reattach it with an iron. The new sheet will span across the front, back and the extended spine. I am still trying to find a suitable sheet for the new size case though (what i'm finding is too thick).
-
1st draft - doesn't look right to me - ideas??
would it be better without retaining the PS3 top bars?
-
would it be better without retaining the PS3 top bars?
I like it, deffinately keep the top bars. I would suggest adding the network logo though to the front and back of the top bar though considering SFIV was online capable and this is a controller specifically for the game & maybe centering the PS3 spine logo? :)
-
updated - just adding the PSN logo made a big difference.
Also added capcom logo to the front, and reduced the size of the collectors edition banner:
edit - only problem is, i'm now doubtful that it will fit in the case anyway. haha. ;D
-
Wow. That is sexy.
I think I'll be doing something similar for my PS2 SF 20th Anniversary controllers. I've got Ryu and Ken, as I thought it was only appropriate to have them as my P1 and P2 versus controllers.
-
these look awesome.
for the SFIV spine maybe having a white/cream background and a brush stroke type of font to keep in line with the game style?
-

I've been looking for something similar for ages to showcase my handhelds in my display cabinet but never found anything worthwhile.

This.
All it is is some AC Ventilation metal I got from my local Home Depot. It's easy to bend, and easy to cut with just a pair of scissors.
-
so does anyone have boxes to scan?
I don't want to see this project die :(
-
I could... search my shed when I get home, I have some Gameboy Advance and PSP boxes I could scan
-
I don't want to see this project die :(
Oh its far from dead, I've just been so busy i may drown in all the stuff i have to do :(
I have scans from the Nintendo DSi, Gameboy Color, wii classic controller, PS2 Memory Card and a bunch of Game & Watch covers to convert over. I just simply lack the time at the moment.

I completely understand! I just enjoy seeing the thread on the "Recent Threads" area of the front page!
So I figured I'd bump it up a little :P
Also, could you upload the DS Lite covers to your box.net account? I'm really eager to print one for my ds lite :) (and since I just got my next shipment of UGC's!)

Thanks a lot shenske! :)
I'll print out covers for the three we have and I'll post some pics up of how they look in UGC's tonight :)

Shoothimnow, I must admit that I just laughed pretty hard when you mentioned the club nintendo points, but then I realized I would have a use for that as well. lmao.
personally I would LOVE to get all of my portables covered up before doing anything else. Covering my portables would give me a whole drawer of empty space! :P
I'm going to make a quick list of what cases I would need to cover up my portables, so if anyone has boxes, you know where to scan them ;)
Gameboy - Original (We can leave this for later since it doesn't fit all too nicely in the UGC)
Gameboy Pocket - Black
Gameboy Color - Strawberry, Grape, Kiwi, Dandelion, Teal, Atomic Purple, Pokemon Edition, and Tommy Hilfiger Edition
Gameboy Advance - Arctic, Indigo
Gameboy Advance SP - Flame Red, Platinum
Gameboy Micro - Famicom Edition, Black
Nintendo DS (Phat) - Silver
Nintendo DS Lite - Crimson/Black, Onyx Black, Polar White
Nintendo DSi - Matte Blue
Unfortunately, the only boxes I MAY have are for the DS line that I have. I'll try to check sometime today for the boxes and try to scan them in. What DPI should I scan them in at? (I'm an utter noob at scanning)

Oh, that makes more sense. I generally buy enough nintendo games to get that every year.
Unfortunately for me the rewards nintendo gives you for the platinum status expire eventually. I had plenty of of points so i chose to get the doc louis's punch out download ... i wasn't aware that if you didnt download it right away it expires. >:( I didnt have my wii hooked up to the internet for a long time (i didnt have the need).
Speaking of Club Nintendo rewards ... ours sucks. Has anyone ever looked at the rewards the Japanese Club Nintendo members get? Its rediculous how much more options they have, not to mention how much better the rewards are in general :'(
-
Club Nintendo rewards is another area that Australia is at the bottom of the gaming food-chain.
Since it arrived here, we've been able to get:
For 1000 points, a Wii Remote Stand.
1300 points, a Mario Print Face Towel.
2500 points for the Game and Watch Collection.
1800 points for a DS game case and stylus set. [the Navy Blue one from the US site, not the other ones]
Or 2000 points for a DS game wallet.
I got the Game and Watch Collection, but since then have just been sitting on my points waiting for any new items to appear. We've had those 5 items I think since the launch in March last year. The good thing is, points don't expire in Australia. I assume because there's just nothing worth getting.
-
Yep. I agree. The only thing I've gotten is Game and Watch Collection. Oh and the Zelda posters, which are beautiful. At the media summit they announced Game and Watch Collection 2 and Mario posters for NA club nintendo which is absolutely nothing compared to the japanese club nintendo...

I love it! Specially after the whole "Gamecube Memory Card" Covers!
Could you possibly create the same cover for the blue and red PS2 memory cards?

Hate to be a nuisance, but a grey PS1 cover would be awesome also!!!
Again, love the cover!
-
Could you possibly create the same cover for the blue and red PS2 memory cards?
Sure, if you have those two colored memory card i'd be glad to. I'd need a scan of the memory cards though, if you could do that it would greatly increase your chances of getting the cover variation.
Hate to be a nuisance, but a grey PS1 cover would be awesome also!!!
The ps2 card scan has much different info than the ps1 card would have. I wouldnt really be able to use the scan for PS1 cards. It would have to be custom + would take forever to retype all that back info :'(
-
I'll add to that list and request a green PS2 memory card as well. Does anyone even own the packaging to PS1 memory cards anymore? All I have are a bunch of used GameStop brand ones (which I'm dreading the day they kick it, thats why I back up all my ps1 stuff on the spare PS2 memory card ;) )

Here's the deal with Club Nintendo coins.
Register your game as soon as you buy it. Seriously. A.) You don't want to forget which games you've registered/haven't registered. B.) You don't want to lose it and C.) If you buy in the "release window" you get extra coins.
But you don't want to waste your Elite Coins?
Simple! Go to the Club Nintendo website, log in and enter your registration code. On the next screen, the Registration survey will pop up. Simply click out of this (close the browser window, click another link, etc.). The product is now registered and the survey shows up in your to-do list, but you haven't been awarded any coins. Come next Club Nintendo Year, you can then go back and do the survey at your convenience - and you'll be awarded all the bonus coins you were due when you registered the title.

were there ever any covers made for snes, nes controllers for ugc cases? i've seen people talk about them, just cant seem to find them :-\
-
Just throwing this one out there.....
Club Nintendo Points (I'm saving for future, possibly better/cooler rewards down the road)
- Saving so that the points don't expire
- Wishing to save in a different case to know which hasnt been used
Do you mean the piece of paper w/ ~16 digit code that comes with the games? ... Those expire after a while if you don't enter them in to nintendo's website
yea they do, but I think that he's saving them, like I do, for the next club nintendo "year" so that I can get platinum status every time.
Here's the deal with Club Nintendo coins.

Heh... I have sooo many, possibly 6 New SMB Club Nintendo points. 5 I cannot use because 1 per account =D. Oh the perks with working at a rental store

Going to upload my dreamcast broadband adaptor's box.
-
Could you possibly create the same cover for the blue and red PS2 memory cards?
Sure, if you have those two colored memory card i'd be glad to. I'd need a scan of the memory cards though, if you could do that it would greatly increase your chances of getting the cover variation.
The ps2 card scan has much different info than the ps1 card would have. I wouldnt really be able to use the scan for PS1 cards. It would have to be custom + would take forever to retype all that back info :'(
OCR? If I can find the red/blue cardboard insert, I'll scan it.

...might need a bit more work, I've uploaded the raws, too.
-
wow.. thanks unclebob because I never even thought of that. lol
-
After a quick look through my messy basement, I think I may have got rid of the insert. If I find it, I'll let you know.
Am I going to make a cover for this? No.

Has this little project any steam left? I have a few requests, maybe that's going to breathe new life into this project.
So here's what I would like to see:
Covers for UGCs:
Mad Catz Street Fighter IV Fight Pad Ken Design (Xbox360)
Mad Catz Street Fighter IV Fight Pad Blanka Design (PS3)
Wii Classic Controller
Wii Remote & Nunchuck (white) (both in one case not seperately)
Gamecube Hori Digital Controller (black)
Covers for DVD cases:
Gamecube Memory Card 251 Blocks (simple mem card without any game artwork and in the European Gamecube template with the Gamecube logo on the upper spine)
PS2 memory Card (black) (again European style with white spine and black text)
Covers for DS cases:
Dreamcast VMU (European DS case, the one with the bigger spine, see guides section, case dimensions for proper dimensions), blue PAL style
That's it for now :) sheep2001 did a Fight Pad cover on page 3 of this thread for reference. That's basically what I'm looking for. unclebob provided RAW scans for the Hori Digital controller (black and indigo). They are in the raw covers, in the gamecube section.
For the reast of the bunch, I don't care about legal stuff, barcodes etc. I even prefer custom covers so If anyone wants to tackle any of these you can go wild and do whatever you want :)
-
I'm still extremely interested in this project, but I don't have any boxes to provide scans for. I believe I put my requests on one of the first few posts. let me find it.
EDIT:
here it is,
Gameboy - Original (We can leave this for later since it doesn't fit too nicely in the UGC's)
Gameboy Pocket - Black
Gameboy Color - Strawberry, Grape, Kiwi, Dandelion, Teal, Atomic Purple, Pokemon Edition, and Tommy Hilfiger Edition
Gameboy Advance - Arctic, Indigo
Gameboy Advance SP - Flame Red, Platinum
Gameboy Micro - Famicom Edition, Black
Nintendo DS (Phat) - Silver (didn't someone say that this doesnt fit in UGC?)
Nintendo DS Lite - Crimson/Black, Onyx Black, Polar White
Nintendo DSi - Matte Blue
I recently ordered a DSi XL, should arrive tomorrow. I'll see if it fits in a UGC and I should have a box for it as well (so I could scan it in). But, someone scanned a GBC box in and if we could get GBC covers going that would be awesome!

Looks like it would used for something like Arkanoid.
-
http://www.thecoverproject.net/forums/index.php?topic=2979.0
It's for the Original DS/DS Lite - plugs into the GBA slot and works with Arkanoid DS, Space Invaders Extreme, Space Invaders Extreme 2 and Space Bust-a-Move.

I finally got time to scan in my original game boy box. its not the most immaculate condition, but its scanned in at 600dpi so thats a good start.
i was wondering if we can get a sweet cover for a double UGC case out of this one, any takers? *nudge nudge shenske* lolol

just upped raws for PSP 2003 (Piano Black), and GBA Micro (Silver)
can't up to the site in 600dpi, keeps timing out - so 300 is all I could manage.

You can always upload them somewhere like mediafire and just post the link here.

snes controller box would rock man
Try this one
http://www.mediafire.com/?zygdn2zjj2z
It's a scan of a German SNES Controller box, it's pretty beat up and only 200dpi but it will have to suffice until someone has a better scan. It's not my scan, I found it on NPES so don't bother asking me to scan it at a higher dpi or turining on the descreen option, I know the drill, I was one of the guys who set the rules ;)
No seriously, I hope it's usable, if not then tough luck. It's the best I could come up with. If someone wants to give it a shot I could translate the text into English but that's as far as I can help.
@Jonesat
Going by the flag in your XBL tag you're Canadian. So I figure there's a chance you speak French. If you do, you might want to consider paying a visit to http://npes.free.fr/#coverprojectdesc and ask nicely if the guy who posted this scan can rescan it again at 600 or at least 300dpi. Maybe there's a chance that he was the one who originally scanned it.
-
Maybe these will help with the SNES Controller.

if you still need a francophone I can do it, and if you ever need someone that speaks french I'm here.
@jonesat
hey if you live in Canada and speak french you are most probably in Quebec. If you're living in Montreal, and you buy some UGC or opposite way we could contact each other to sell the leftover to the other.
Edit: I just got a raw scan of a Nintendo DSi Black

hey shenske, could you make a template for ugc's that go in a double ugc case? like if you had to bolt 2 together?

I just placed a Famicom controller inside one of my black cases, if someone could make even a normal case of it, that would be superb

Oh boy, Shenske to the rescue :) Thanks a lot man, I appreciate it! I don't know if it will fit in a UGC either ;) I use VHS cases for my games and resize the covers form our site since I decided importing UGCs is not worth the hassle for me. I just requested them in UGC format so that other people who might want to use them and have access to the cases can use them without any resizing and stuff. The classic controller is pretty slim though so I think it will fit just fine. It's not much thicker than a NES cart after all.
-

I just checked mine.... the bottom Joy Sticks make it not possible
-
Looks like were gonna have to come up with a double UGC solution.
-
I use VHS cases for my games and resize the covers form our site since I decided importing UGCs is not worth the hassle for me.
How do you adapt the VHS boxes to hold the games? It would be really helpfull if you could make a tutorial on it since importing UGC to my country is way to expensive too. For a lot of 30 boxes i had to pay an 80 dollars shipment.
Thanks a lot for the cover Shenske now i can keep my classic controler safe from dust in a stylish way jeje ;D
-
At the moment I just wrap them in a small paper or plastic bag so they're padded a bit and then I put them in the VHS case. Once I have all the games I want for SNES (8 to go) I'll start printing the covers and modding the cases all in one go.
As for modding the cases to keep the games in place and prevent them from rattling around in the case...
It's really easy, you buy some foam material, cut off small stripes and then pad the cases interior with double faced adhesive tape and the stripes, leaving enough room in the middle for the game. It's not as tight a fit as the plastic holders in a UGC bit it will hold the game in place when the case is closed and prevent it from rattling around. It's really easy to do and doesn't take you longer than 5mins max per case. I've done it before to test if it was an option and was satisfied with it. It does its job pretty well, it's easy and the best thing...it's cheap :) I don't know where my "test case" is so I might not be able to post pictures until I start covering my SNES collection but I'm sure you get the idea.
Oh, and to make it clear before there's any confusion...
The Wii Classic Controller or any other joypad thicker than a SNES or Genesis pad will not fot into a VHS case!!! For those bigger things I plan to give it the same treatment Shenske did with his portable NES clone. Use two cases and glue/screw them together. I just requested them in UGC format because I plan to print it out twice, use one for the front and one for the back and the spine is double. Should I change my mind I just need to change the spine's dimensions since everything else is already the correct size.
So again, the Wii classic controller does NOT fit in a VHS case or UGC. There is some modding required if you want to go down that route like I plan to.
So @Shenske:
Again, thanks a LOT for doing one of my requests. If you leave the cover as is, which would be fine by me, I guess you could put it into my ftp folder or put it into your box.net account if you want to share it with anyone else but me. That way people who see the cover won't be bitchin' that they can't use the cover the way it is :D
-
....put it into your box.net account ....
Ok, its in my box.net account right now in the "other stuff" folder :)
-
Thanks, just grabbed it :)
Thanks, that's one down

Game Boy Pocket
I made a color for every version i know of (except the famitsu or light versions). These covers are completely custom but are based from the French version of the box. I retyped the back info that was on the French box and sent it through a translator. From there i retyped it so it would actually make sense to read. Hope you like them :)

WOW Shenske!
Those cases look absolutely amazing!
I have a black gameboy pocket, so I'll be downloading/printing this as soon as its available :)

Euh could anybody do a Gameboy Advance/SP/DSi case? If you need scan,I've already uploaded some scans for the black and the white DSiand the blue PSP
-
I had forgotten all about this request...been real busy lately and im getting old... Anyhow, is this the kind of thing your after for your VM,s Kaiser ? Its based on the E.U packaging (DULL) but as i can find no scans for the back, had to go with other stuff there. The white box in the top left corner is something i put in for id purposes cos' if your like me, you probably have a lot of these. It was on the spine but it was'nt looking right so it went to the back. Either way, it can stay or go, just let me know.... :)
-
Yeah, great! That was just the thing I had in mind. Don't care too much about the back. The retail packaging of a VMU just has a load of legal text on the back which is not that interesting anyways. Good call on the index box on the back, I think I have 4 VMUs so it will be very helpful :) Thanks!
-
NP. :) I will post ASAP. Damn PC CPU fan is failing and as its warm here today (for once. ;)), machine keeps overheating and shutting itself down.

I have one of every color gbc + tommy hilfiger + yellow/blue pokemon edition.
GBC is on the very long to do list but i dont think it will be my next immediate project. The GBp was actually quite difficult and time consuming so i'm going on to the next thing for now :)

Would anyone possibly be able to make UGC covers for:
iPod Video (Black, 30gb)
ipod Touch (8gb)
Technically they do play games. ;)
EDIT: I do have the box for the iPod Video, but not the iTouch. Gimme a week and I'll be done with finals and able to scan a lot of stuff I've been forgetting about :)

If anyone's interested, here are my scans for the DS Wifi USB Connector:

Nice. I could use a cover for that. Im pretty sure when I bought mine it came in that really thick hard to cut open clear plastic so I never got a box.
-
the little USB dongle is thin enough to place in a dvd case right?
-
I dont know if the USB dongle fits withing a (PS2 memory card slot) DVD case, but I sure do know that a USB Flash drive does ;)
-
I was able to get everything in a plain white dvd case with barely any bulging! :)
-
Before anybody starts working on it, I verified, don't know for PSP 1000 but PSP 2000 fits in Double-wide PSP-UMD case and it wouldbe a nice way to stick it to the rest of the PSP games
-
Hey I was wondering what happend to the project because I would like that to put all my peripherals in cases.
-
Hey I was wondering what happend to the project because I would like that to put all my peripherals in cases.
Its still going. I'm one of the only ones making covers for the random peripheral stuff. Its a slow-going process since i make covers for just about everything (NES, SNES, N64, GB, GBC, GBA, DS, GEN, DC, PS1, PS3 etc). Its hard to give an equal shake for each system and/or peripheral equipment.
Don't worry its still going ... and will likely never end :)
-
thanks. If you can, not force to, could you do these soon plz?:
PSP (2000 preferable, I scaned a blue cover)
Nintendo DSi (I scaned white and black cover)

Game Boy Advance (again)

My brother has about eight of those controller boxes lying around. (The one that KaiserWave showed scans of.) If no one else can provide better scans for them, I'm sure I could scan one. Might be a few days, though.
-
That would be great Peach! Sorry for the box Badchad, iit's the controller they were giving when you bought a FC Twin.
-
Crap. Scratch that 'few days' thing. An hour on the road, and I realized that I forgot my scanner. The soonest I would be able to scan a box is the 30th. (Unless someone I know around here has a scanner.) So, if anyone has that box and can scan it before then, feel free to. :(
-
I have this "peripheral" and was wondering if anyone would be kind enough to make a cover for it?
Sega Genesis - (Tyco) Power Plug
(http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51JVH1WABZL._SS500_.jpg)
Nice back of the box definition could be found here (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=400048604610&rvr_id=&crlp=1_263602_263622&UA=WVF%3F&GUID=96e3b0761270a0e201d33843fe7fec63&itemid=400048604610&ff4=263602_263622)
I am currently unaware if this fits inside a UGC, mostlikely not, but it would be a simple fix to make it into a double case if need be. Currently unable to find the Power Plug adapter, found this manual in a random box though
My Instruction Manual Cover Scan (http://www.thecoverproject.net/uploads/raw/SNow.retail.raw_genesis_powerplug.jpg)
Thanks in advance, I hope my scan is usable.

You should see if it fit in a wide EA Genesis case, i think it would look sharp next to the other genesis games on the shelf.
-
Started this - but now i'm too tired to finish - need to reformat the back and make the spine wider - it fits snugly in a double wide DVD case (or a UMC i am guessing)

Ideas for the back welcome
-
It's hard to tell from the preview, but that back font looks hard to read. If it looks fine on the real cover, ignore this.
-
it's easy enough to read - it just looks incredibly dull. was looking for some screenshots of it in use to use, but didn't come up with anything last night

Sorry to drag this out of the depths of the General Discussion, but I just discovered this thread and I think this project deserves to live on!
I wish I had box scans I could contribute, but I thought I'd at least try to tack a whack at the SNES controller box using the scans provided earlier in this discussion. I'm not experienced at making more than PC covers, so I'm doing my best at creating it for the vertical SNES template. I also tracked down better images of Yoshi and Mario from Mario RPG. Of course it would be ideal if someone had better quality scans, but I can at least make something until then. Here's a preview of the front so far:
(http://img94.imageshack.us/img94/8455/snescontrollerverticalw.th.jpg) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/94/snescontrollerverticalw.jpg/)
If there's any chance of this project continuing, I'd personally love to see a cover for the green Gameboy Color (if it fits in a UGC, or whatever works). My original one I grew up playing with was stolen long ago, but today I just got a practically new one, which is pretty exciting! I'd also love so see one for GBA and GBA SP eventually. If anyone out there has the boxes to scan, I'll even take a shot at them myself.

Game Boy Pocket
I made a color for every version i know of (except the famitsu or light versions). These covers are completely custom but are based from the French version of the box. I retyped the back info that was on the French box and sent it through a translator. From there i retyped it so it would actually make sense to read. Hope you like them :)

Ok, here's my attempt at a vertical cover for an SNES Controller, using the scans from earlier in this topic. It's not perfect, and I'd eventually like to either get the SUPER NES CONTROLLER logo replaced with a better scan or find that font and remake it. Until then, hopefully these will do for someone.
There's 2 different spines, featuring DK and Peach. Their images were on either side of the original box, so I wanted to include both. You can pick your favorite, or use them both - one for each controller. There was a Bowser image on the bottom side but I couldn't use it due to the redundant SNES logo, so I put the same Super Mario RPG image of him on the back (which needed some kind of art anyways).
EDIT: I worked a little in Photoshop and was able to make the top and bottom spine images of Mario and Bowser work. I had to flip them (which isn't too noticeable because behind them is the D-Pad), but I've put up 2 versions: Mario & Bowser at the top to match the DK and Peach ones, or Mario & Bowser at the bottom as the original artwork showed. Here you can see the options:

Hope everyone enjoys! If someone with more experience than me wants to cleanup or modify this, then by all means do so. :D

@TyrannicalFascist
These look great, though the 2 right most seem out of place with the 4 other because of the image at the buttom instead of the top on the spine. I actually feel like buying more controller just to put on my shelves nice job

Thanks! Yeah they seem out of place to me too, but I wanted to give people the option, especially if they wanted to use just those 2.

Could someone make one for the Master System, Genesis, and N64 controller?
-
If someone has scans for the Master System or particularly Genesis controller boxes, I'll take a stab at it.
Not sure what kind of box could fit an N64 Controller, though... Not to mention how many color variations there are: http://youtu.be/--bvr6IvYig

I think it was meant to be a placeholder request. Or maybe he plans on making some sort of Franken-case in the same fashion as what some of the bulky handheld carts need.
-
It would take like (4) UGC's for a N64 Controller, not worth it IMO
-
I've decided to make cover for any peripheral I have that I can make fit into a UGC :). I've done the NES RF Switch, NES AV Cables, NES Controller, SNES RF Switch, SNES AV Cables and the SNES Controller, I plan to do the Playstation power cord, PS2 slim power brick, Playstation RF Switch, Playstation AV Cables, Sega Master System Controller, Genisis RF Switch, Nintendo 64 RF Switch, Nintendo 64 RF modulator and anything else I got into a UGC.
I'm sure they could use some tweaks and have room for improvement but heres what I have so far.

Hey guys, I have a bit of a request. The other day I was back home and checking out my collection when it occurred to me that my Dreamcast VMUs were just laying on the shelf, collecting dust and just waiting to get knocked to the floor. I then decided to switch 2 of my VMUs to a plastic case made by Performance (and I think later Interact) that had come with their brand of Dreamcast Memory Card (and I had been using to store my 3rd party memory cards). It's worked out wonderfully from a storage point of view, but when lined up next to my Dreamcast games, it definitely sticks out like a sore thumb, more because of content of its spine than its size. And I figured since I'm using it to store my SEGA brand VMUs, it would look so much better if the case were be done in the style of the Dreamcast games.
Since my photoshop skills are ....lacking, would anyone here like to make a custom front and back/spine in the style of the US Dreamcast games that I could print and use to replace the ones in the case now? I'll post some pictures of the case below so you can see what I'm talking about. If anyone is interested let me know, and I'll open it up and get the measurements.
(http://www.mediafire.com/imgbnc.php/d971e62d72eb16627df91e1bd0bf3526804f5c2b5590fa1720873ac36fe8af7c2g.jpg) (http://www.mediafire.com/imageview.php?quickkey=p6hr8ea5hcpa6yb&thumb=5)
Also, while thinking of storage solutions for my other VMUs, inspired by the recent discovery that cassette tape cases can be used to store gameboy games, I happened to discover that plastic VHS-C cases are just about perfect for holding VMUs. I was pretty surprised to learn that no modification to the case was needed. In fact the raised column that holds the VHS-C tape in place also keeps the VMU from sliding around. I'll post some pictures of the VMU in its new case below, and if anyone wants to try and whip up some sort of insert for this case, too, I'd be happy to have it.
(http://www.mediafire.com/imgbnc.php/118cab2be1b65ea3263c282a9199d80777250378a2a24dcc4da0e0e9a24912f82g.jpg) (http://www.mediafire.com/imageview.php?quickkey=3dkv2q6dq5mgpb9&thumb=5)
Thanks!
-
I like the idea for the Sansui Joycard case! What about for the NES Max Controller?
-
So I got bored the other day and threw together a VMU in VHS-C case cover with my meager photoshop skills. Did a couple of test prints to see how it would look in-case. Doesn't look too bad, all things considered. I was hoping to get some constructive criticism (if that exists on the internet) on them, and see what you guys thought.
(http://www.mediafire.com/imgbnc.php/540b5f75a8788855429641378b943192584ba6f1c599778cc0557d7c744a12b72g.jpg) (http://www.mediafire.com/imageview.php?quickkey=5lhrdsyqok2q8n7&thumb=5)

(didn't have any Dreamcast games handy so I threw some cds up there to at least get a sense of scale)
I know the text on the spines aren't lined up very well and aren't centered in the cases. Part of that can be fixed with photoshop and part with proper folding of the paper. Eventually I'd like to use cardstock for these, but right now it's just regular paper, which doesn't make it easier to fold the neatest. All that aside I'm not sure how much I really like the spine. Any ideas for improvement are welcome.
-
@Shenske - did your covers ever get put anywhere? Can't see them in your box.net
Specifically after NDS White, GBC Purple, GB Pocket Red, GBA Silver, GBA Purple, GBA Clear. Not sure if you made all those variations, but if not would like to use yours as a base anyway - mine are going in VHS Cases, as the original gameboy fits in a double wide VHS.
edit: oh yes - and the GBA micro silver, and GBA Micro Ltd Famicom edition.
-
not usually one to do this....but bump for Shenskes attention ;D
-
Oh my bad, i must have overlooked this. I actually have the console covers in their respective category along with the games. The Gameboy Pocket is with the gameboy covers and the NDSlite is under the NDS section. I actually havent made any other console covers at the moment.

I don't know if it's been mentioned yet, but I just checked and my Nintendo 3DS fits very nicely in a UGC. Now that there's Cosmo Black, Aqua Blue, Flame Red and the Legend of Zelda Limited Edition, this might be a good time to make a 3DS case while there still aren't too many.
I'll look and see if I can find my Cosmo Black 3DS box.
-
Get me the scan and i'll do it :)
(600dpi descreened preferred)
-
Found my box and did some scans.
I was able to do 600dpi, but I couldn't find anywhere to set Descreen/Derasterize/Moire Effect.
Hope they're still usable. :-\
I put them in a folder on my Box.net, Download Here (http://www.box.com/s/nhqpgd2b5iui2sb3dykj).

Just want to add, a friend of mine got the Aqua Blue 3DS and he's going to try to get me his box. So that's 2 down. :)

Now seems like as good of a time as any to renew my old request for someone to make a dual-case cover for the DS Paddle Controller...

So I was going to make a cardboard case for my e-Reader. My initial plan was to copy the HeartGold cardboard case but make it thicker, but then I thought that I want to add foam on the inside to make it secure. Side loading wouldn't be the best, so then I went with a front opening box style. I'm using my Guitar Hero: On Tour box as a template, but I'm going to want to modify it to make it taller. I think that I am going to use cardstock since it is what I have. To make it a tad thicker, I was thinking to gluing two pieces together. While measuring it out, I've figured that I'm going to have to print it out on three 8.5 x 11 sheets and include tabs to glue all the sides together. As far as I can tell, we don't have any templates or boxes for the e-Reader done.
I'm going to use sheep2001's raw e-Reader scans to complete all the sides of the box. Thoughts?

How about blac Wiimotes?

Haven't been around in a while - has anyone attempted the 3DS covers yet? If not, let's post what scans we have and maybe one of us can take a crack at it.
Also, it might be helpful if we once and for all determined which Nintendo handheld systems fit in UGCs and which won't. Here's what I know of so far:
Game Boy - Does NOT fit in UGC. Will fit in 39mm wide DVD box (12-disc) - Would it fit in 2 combined UGCs?
Game Boy Pocket - Fits in UGC -- Covers Completed (http://www.thecoverproject.net/view.php?game_id=7597)
Game Boy Light - Fits in UGC
Game Boy Color - Fits in UGC (snugly)
Game Boy Advance - Fits in UGC (snugly)
Game Boy Advance SP - Fits in UGC
Game Boy Micro - Fits in UGC
Nintendo DS - Fits in UGC (snugly) - Need confirmation
Nintendo DS Lite - Fits in UGC -- Covers Completed (http://www.thecoverproject.net/view.php?game_id=7496)
Nintendo DSi - Fits in UGC
Nintendo DSi XL - ?? - Need confirmation
Nintendo 3DS - Fits in UGC

I'm pretty sure the DS fat is too big for UGCs.
And I don't know about the rest of you, but if the UGC is pushing down on the buttons when the case is closed, then that is too snug to be considered a proper fit (as is the case with the color and advance), and I wouldn't ever recommend storing them in UGCs.

I do agree, especially on my GBC, though some people may still want to do it, like I noticed Shenske had his GBA cased back on page 1. I'd personally still love to have a covered box to at least represent it and perhaps hold peripherals for the system.
-
Well...it seems there are A LOT of exclusive 3DS releases on the way, a lot more than we ever saw on DS Lite or DSi.
http://www.modojo.com/features/exclusive_3ds_systems_see_you_later_aqua_blue/
If there are going to be cases for these, there certainly are going to be a lot of variations.

I have the 25th Anniversary Zelda 3DS. I love it! ;D I guess I could put a cover together for it. But are we going to have a template kinda like DSLite Covers?

I'd love to see something simple and sleek along the lines of the DS Lite system covers myself. I've got scans of the Cosmo Black box on my box account. http://www.box.com/s/nhqpgd2b5iui2sb3dykj

One of my other friends who lives in another town got the Red 3DS. I could check with him and see if he has the box and can get me scans of that one too.

Id like to request a Neo Geo Pocket Colour VHS Cover? please
-
I'm tossing my old DS lite into a UGC, so I'll have a template soon as well.
The GBA has DOZENS of variants, and I can't imagine the 3DS topping it considering the insane lifespan of the GBA and Nintendo's affinity for releasing a new(ish) version of their portable hardware just about every year at this point.

Sorry man, I've got a JP box and that's all :/
I'd gladly build one for ya using reference from the web (it's pretty simple layout), but I've got like a half dozen projects that I'm on for folks here right now. If you haven't found it in a week or two, then let me know and I'll try and get it knocked out for ya.
On a side note, you may want to just leave the cart in the system forever. The Saturn cartridge post is notoriously shitty (if you didn't know already), and the more you use it, the faster it'll wear out :(
-
I had to kind of rebuild this one to get the gradient to match up correctly. I'm not entirley happy with it but the box is pretty bland. More colors to come as time allows :)

Thanks Shenske! :D
For anyone interested, I recently created covers for the Super Nintendo Controller and the Super Game Boy Controller (aka SGB Commander) for my SNES Fusion vertical style.

I swear, if it wasn't for this place, I wouldn't have heard of so many things. A Super Game Boy controller. That's wild. I thought the arcade stick was out there.
-
Haha yeah, I only recently found out about the Hori Gamecube Digital Controller, which is essentially a controller for the Game Boy Player. I'd love to get my hands on the black version...

I knew about those a few years ago, which was still too late. I'd love to get my hands on one, I don't care what color, that isn't $100+. As much as I want that controller, that price is ridiculous. It's not worth that much, I don't care what anyone says. Hori controllers are nice, but give me a break. You have to try really hard to justify any controller being priced that high.
-
Agreed. I wouldn't want to spend a ton of money on them. I'll be keeping my eyes open for a deal though. ;)
-
I've got a whole mess of these since I started doing the double UGC/DS case thing. For what it's worth, I'll post 'em up sometime soon. Don't know if anyone is actually trying to make the doubles yet. I haven't really seen anyone else give it a go at this point :-\
-
Once we get the updated Fusion templates ready, I'll probably make some double-wide covers in that style. :)
-
Shweet!

Can anyone remember where the Gameboy Colour VHS case covers were on here. Ive been through so many threads including the Gameboy ones. I cant even remember who created them sorry.
I found the gameboy pocket ones.
I am after The Teal Cover.

Has anyone finished the gameboy micro UGC?
-
^^^ You looking for a retail cover?
-
It doesn't have to be retail. Its for my 6 year old niece. Anything would be Col.

In that case: Wiggy I dare you to make one that is so overly cute that you get diapetes just by watching it.

A VHS case cover for a Clear Gameboy color would be great also ;)

This will be interesting...

Dammit! Why did I have to see this? [shakes fist]Arseen!!![/shakes fist]
-
I need that to tease my nephew.
So the more overly cute the better.
-
Can anyone tell me if the DSi XL and the new 3DS XL can fit in a UGC? I don't have either (yet) but I'm thinking ahead... ;)
-
I don't think it fits.. but I'll check my DSi XL
-
DSi XL looks like it should just fit, with quite a bit of tab removal.

Nice work on the NES box but do not use Image Shack to upload your cover because it shrinks the image, get a Box.net account.
Welcome to the community!
Edit: On the back image, how are they playing Mario if the cart is not in the system, why are 2 kids playing a 1 player-at-a-time game, and why is the kid playing making Mario jump the wrong way in a pit.

^^^ Because it was the 80's. We were all on tons of fucking cocaine. Shit happened...

So... GBC's don't fit into a UGC. Rather, they do, but it pushes the butons down. How does oen go about fitting them?
Also, I've got the Pokemon-edition GBC, the yellow/blue one. has anyone done a cover for that?
-
^^^ Because it was the 80's. We were all on tons of fucking cocaine. Shit happened...
I can verify this, and I was only 4 at the end of 1989. THATS HOW COKED OUT WE WERE.

bumping this back up, can anyone do a cover for the Nintendo DS lite Zelda edition?
-
>1. The Power Button On the NES Is Not On
Obviously, it's an PC-in-an-NES mod, playing roms. :D
>2. The Super Mario Bros/Duck Hunt Cartridge Cover Is Incorrect
It's a cover they just haven't uploaded to TCP yet. :D
>3. Super Mario Bros Is a Two-Player Alternating Game, Yet Both Boys Are Playing the Game at the Same Time
My sister used to "play along" when it was my turn, mimicking my controls. Either that or they're playing a hacked ROM where one player gets to play as the Goomba. Even better, maybe this particular PC/ROM Hack lets one person use part of the controls and the second player uses the other half. Teamwork!
>4. The Boy In Blue Isn't Looking at the Television Screen
He's actually blind and he's playing by sound. Congrats for making fun of blind people, jerks.
>5. The Button Presses of the Boy in Yellow Don't Match the Actions Onscreen
Part of the ROM hack. :D
>6. The Mother Isn't Looking at the Television
She's blind too. It's hereditary. Jerks.
>7. The Game Cartridge Is On the Table, Not In the System
See #1.

@UncleBob
Beautiful. Just beautiful. :D
-
If you guys find the time for it, the Fire Emblem 3DS bundle could use a cover too. If my scanner were working, I'd get the raws for you, but alas, that is not the case. Oh, and I'm patiently waiting for the DSi Matte Black as well. At least for that one, the raws are floating around in the thread somewhere.
-

Not sure if this was answered, but...
The 3DS XL does fit into a UGC. Quite nicely too. Basically modify a UGC as you would an NES game, and then cut one extra piece - the long horizontal strip at the top. You only leave three pieces (sown below) the horizontal strip at the bottom, and the 2 clasps at the side. There IS a tiny bulge when closed, but no where near as bad as Game Genie or gameshark.

I still really need the The Teal Cover for GBC please? Anyone any idea who made the purple one?

Does any one have photos of a PSP in a UGC?
-
1001 is rather snug in a single. Later models fit with no issue.
-
I keep the 3000 in mine and it fits no issue. The only pieces you have to cut are the long horizontal pieces at the tip and bottom. I can show pics later if you still need them. As previously stated, the 1001 doesn't really fit. If you can get it to close, it will really bulge
-
Its not really that hard to cut out the extra pieces inside the UGC even with an Xacto Blade so i don't really see that being a problem.
Have you tried using lino cutters... Bad times man... Bad times...
-
Just curious if there any updates on this project. It would be seriously awesome if I could get all my Nintendo Handhelds in these cases.
Also, how the heck are you guys fitting a SNES controller into a UGC? The cord is unbelievably long.
-
Gonna bump this, I know it's been a long time.
But I'm looking to box up my controllers and I'm also in search of that teal GBC cover. Anybody ever find/make that?
-
I'm also now looking for the GBA arctic white cover. If anyone has scans I will do it.
-
Sorry, I know I'm digging up a really old thread here, and I didn't even realize I was the last person to post in it until I finished skimming through it BUT... some of the pictures in here are dead links now, and I thought this thread had some nice UGC covers for NES and SNES controllers. I think one of the SNES ones is there but there were a lot more...
Anyone out there have those?

I have a NES and NES MAX controller cover that I found on the forum but I can't find the source anymore.
If nobody can find it, I can re-upload it sometime this weekend.
-
As much as I love this place, holy crap is it hard to find things unless they've been uploaded to the site (and even then it occasionally takes more work than expected). I think a tagging system would help a TON!
-
I agree the search function here could do with an overhaul, but if people tagged posts properly it would make things easier.
The revamped site has been talked about for as long as I've been a member, so I don't expect any radical changes/improvements to happen any time soon. We just gotta learn to make things easier on ourselves with regards to how we post. I always post the full game title and system when I showcase a cover, which "should" make it searchable.
