Title: Why are all PS1 games cutom
Post by: tiggerwalker on January 31, 2010, 07:37:06 PM
Why is every one of them marked as custom?

For example: http://www.thecoverproject.net/view.php?game_id=1246 (http://www.thecoverproject.net/view.php?game_id=1246)
The 3rd and 5th Links are Retail exactly, I know because I have this game.

So why are they all custom?

Also shouldn't the PS1 games be something like (Since there 2 covers) :

Playstation 1 Game
|
|=Booklet Cover
|
|=Case Insert
|
|=Disk

Should this be in the Site Feedback or is this intentional?

I've noticed that we're pretty inconsistent in what we label as "retail" and "custom".

All of the disc, tray insert, and front scans should be labeled "retail" in the ps1 section.

Explaining this is not such a easy feat.

To make it short the conventions how we name what are strictly regulated since just a year and all covers posted before were named as the poster thought it would fit.

Yeah, very hard to explain.  Basically we got a new system for uploading covers that uses a drop down menu for the cover description. There are only 3 options to choose from, "Retail Cover, Custom Cover or Disc".  In the old system of uploading covers we used tohave to type in each description manually which were kind of up to us what we wanted to type in.  When the new system was put in place it retroactively changed all the old cover descriptions from what we typed in to the new "Retail Cover, Custom Cover or Disc" criterea. So if the old description we typed in did not exactly say "Retail Cover or Disc" it was autoamtically changed to custom cover.  Some of the old descriptions that were used are "Label, Custom Label, Retail Label, Cart Label, Disc Label, Original Cover, Cover, Cover + region (ie: Cover - AU) and more.  All were changed to Custom Cover.

I think Snowcone was considering changing the new upload system to try and recognize some of the old descriptions to fit the cover more accurately.  If were to change them by hand that would take .... FOREVER!!! We have thousands of covers and changing a cover description takes about 30sec to 1min. Its kind of not worth it if we have to do it that way.
