Post by: TheGreatGonZo on January 20, 2010, 10:02:15 AM
Is there a want\need to scan and add Atari controller overlays to  the site? I have five I can scan they are for the 5200.

Its not a bad idea. I have a lot of INTV and a few Coleco and Jaguar that could go up. Other opinions?

That's the way i made a couple for a mate of mines SEA Battle cart. Worked out quite well. They're a little tighter fit but tougher than the originals.

What do you guys mean by "overlays"?
for systems that have keypads on the controllers, the over lays helped to control some games, and are necessary for a few, like Mouse Trap to tell the RED DOORS open/close, or YELLOW or BLUE .
Guys, don't forget about a few on Odyssey 2

Oh Gotcha, i know what you are talking about now. I see no problem in hosting them but ultimately its snowcone decision  :)

Yes please. I've been looking for the overlay for Cookie Monster Crunch for years.

Is it easy to laminate normal photo paper?

Is it doable to cut them out exactly?

It's pretty easy. You can buy laminators for under 30€. My mother has one, since she likes to do handicrafts and stuff and I bought her one for just over 20€. Works like a charm with satisfying results. You can easily cut it with scissors and if you have to cut out little pieces for the overlay to fit on a controller you could cut it with a scalpel or box cutter.

What I've done for INTV overlays is just print on regular paper and the cover the overlay with clear packing tape and then cut it out. It's cheap, easy and requires no additional equipment.  ;D

So far I haven't had to replace any.

My wife keeps me on a budget. :-\

INTV are pretty straightforward to cut, Jaguar are not so. It's those little tabs on them that cause the problem. I remade a lot of Vectrex screen overlays with transparent film and a laminator. They came out quite well.

hmmm, i use photocopier overheads at school. I wonder if they would work? they would be black and white, and for best scratch resistance need to be done backwards, but they are already plastic.

Ok, after reading this I'm interested.... Where are these going to be uploaded to? If this site can't or doesn't want to host them.  I can post them up on my site, vgmastersclub.com.  If they are uploaded to a site like photobucket I can link them or I can upload them myself to host them directly on my site.

All the overlays would be amazing.. I'm thinking about the inlays I have. Colecovision (Including the extra super giant "Super Action" controller inlays as well), Intellivision, Odyssey 2 and Atari Jaguar... I didn't know that Atari 5200 had any.

As for how to do it easily, I would just go to UPS or FEDEX and print out/ laminate, then just cut them out. To me, it is way cheaper than spending money on printer ink, paper and a laminate machine.

The official Intellivision site (Intellivisionlives.com) already has overlays for all their games...

Problem is those images are tiny. If someone were to blow those up to the correct size and print them they would look terrible.  :(
Those images could be used as a strong base though, good find UnclBob.

actually those overlays might do the trick if they print exactly like they look, but scans of the originals would look much crisper and clearer
