Title: Near SNES Scans
Post by: ZerobyzerO on October 10, 2021, 05:05:36 PM
Found in another place, I thought some people around would be interested.

"Famed game preservationist, Near, best known as the author off the emulators bsnes and Higan, led a huge effort to create box, cart and PCB scans of every United States released Super NES game. They originally scanned everything in 600 DPI lossless, but did not release these publicly. In 2012, I was allowed to retrieve 300 DPI JPEG versions of these scans for documentation on SNES Central. At the time that I downloaded the archive, Near had made scans of carts and PCBs for every game, but had not yet scanned every box, so a few are missing in this archive (it appears that 38 games lack a box scan). Near did end up scanning these, but I do not have them. It is unknown at this time if anyone still has the original 600 DPI scans, and since Near's unfortunate passing, they may never come out."

Well, I've been visiting the website (probably was registered in the forum as well) for the last... 15 years!? (I prefer not thinking too much how FAST time goes by). Yesterday I saw these recently released covers and after realizing that 3 little ninjas cover was included  which I never saw online before, I decided to come here to see if you were already aware of this pack. And it seems my old account was gone... or I never registered.

Regards.

I've recently downloaded this 70gb zip of Near/byuu 600 dpi scans. Amazing collection, however he is missing scans that i do not have either. I am hoping that someone here can help complete this list. Byuu missing scans (others not in the zip can be found here at tcp):

Captain Commando
Imperium
Kirby's Dream Land 3
Lethal Enforcers
Ninja Gaiden Trilogy
Nobunga's Ambition - Lord of Darkness
Packy & Marlon
Realm
Sonic Blast Man II
Stone Protectors
Super Mario All-Stars + Super Mario World
Super Mario World
Super Turrican 2
SWAT Kats - The Radical Squadron
Tick, The

i'm looking for clean 600 dpi byuu equivalent scans. For example, Andy Decarli has seriously horrid scans of Swat Kats, so please don't offer bad quality options.

Thanks for reading. Maybe someone can also help with two other titles missing from my collection:
Syvalion
Terranigma

Thanks you and hopefully noone is mad about replying to an old post.

Super Mario All-Stars + Super Mario World never came with a box, it was a pack-in only. Lethal Enforcers (just like Mario Paint and EarthBound) only came in a big box with the accessory. And I'm sure you know your last two were PAL only games.

LOL. you are funny! internet is international so who cares about Syvalion being an eur release? LOL. i used the keyword "also" or in addition to. Anyway, i took the liberty of linking to a SM Allstars world box. I think that if it is a fake box then you are correct. Otherwise, you should buy it for being wrong. LOL

I am thinking that if a group of us can chip in small amounts of money, we can buy the missing scans (region doesn't matter only the game and a box to represent it) then resell and get all or some of our money back.

I think that some of the members here are also members from old NintendoAge website and may have the 600dpi scans of the following games that were posted on a subdomain of nintendoage at 300dpi:

Captain Commando
(https://i.postimg.cc/fLvbCSVm/boxset.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/JDGm4ncz)

Imperium
(https://i.postimg.cc/0Nc3C88r/boxset.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/hJQpDRQq)

Stone Protectors
(https://i.postimg.cc/Dy3T0wmK/boxset.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/5jgGk1wP)

Super Turrican II
(https://i.postimg.cc/m2svRp6L/boxset.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/0rVW0nsF)

SWAT Kats
(https://i.postimg.cc/sx90vy0V/boxset.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/YL0xPcHV)

so i think that someone here may have 600dpi scans that have not been available for download to the public. Someone must have the scans. These boxes have been scanned before and posted at a subdomain of NintendoAge.

Anyhelp is appreciated.

All of these have covers here on the site (nicely collected here (http://www.thecoverproject.net/forums/index.php?topic=22865.msg204771#msg204771)). You could try to contact the members that created the covers to see if they have a 600 dpi version.

Well about all of that, Byuu/Near was American and therefore so were (probably most of) his scans. Most collectors like to have everything be the same region (or at least look like the same region). SMAS/SMW was only with systems in the US. I don't follow PAL regions. Besides, I said about those two games  "you probably already know".

marioxb, someone bought that mint cib on ebay the day that i posted here. Unbelieveable! I hope it is someone that will scan it. LOL. I guess if i can't find scans, then i will have to try to piece together repro box art with the images that i have on my preservation archive hard drive.

Hi fiatbravodriver, The Tick was scanned by AlveinHero and posted somewhere in this forum. The scan is low quality (no descreening and appears to be over sharpened) but something is better than nothing. Outside of that, i have no scans for the others in your list.
