Title: NES Box Template/Assembly??
Post by: tiggerwalker on January 05, 2010, 03:28:16 PM
1)I need the Dimensions of the NES Boxes.

I would like to print and assemble a NES Box for Kirbys adventure.

2)Also how would you go about doing this?

They did it here: http://cgi.ebay.com/Nintendo-NES-SUPER-MARIO-BROS-DUCK-HUNT-complete-BOX_W0QQitemZ290386180633QQcmdZViewItemQQptZVideo_Games_Games?hash=item439c5d7a19 (http://cgi.ebay.com/Nintendo-NES-SUPER-MARIO-BROS-DUCK-HUNT-complete-BOX_W0QQitemZ290386180633QQcmdZViewItemQQptZVideo_Games_Games?hash=item439c5d7a19)

3)Last of all is the same thing on the left and right sides of a NES box?

I have been thinking of doing the same

1: Found mi ruler, measurements are in Centimeters, divide them with 2.54 to get inches.

here it goes:

Front/back cover: 12,5cm * 17,8cm
Sides: 17,8cm * 2,1cm (remember, you need 3 of these)
Top flap: 3,6cm (2,1+1,5) * 12,5cm

Bottom parts:
The one starting from front:12,2cm * 1,8cm (the missing part is 8,6cm * 0,9cm)
The one starting from back: 2,1cm * 12,5cm (missing parts are 2,0cm * 1,0 cm / 2,1cm)
The ones starting from the sides:3,0cm * 2,1cm (missing part is easiest to descibe in two parts: 2,0cm * 1,1cm [straight part] and 1,0cm * 0,6 cm / 0,4 cm / 1,1cm [rounded part])

Find cover scans from raws section and you should make sense what the measurements mean.

And one more thing: Imagine you rip the box open. the order parts go is: side 1, front, side 2, back and side 3. Side one goes on top of the side 3, it is the only seam you have to glue.

HOPE THIS ALL MAKES EVEN LITTLE BIT SENSE!!!!!!!!!

2:
- Paper: A3 size thin cardboard, maybe 250g/m³  thickness, with semi-glossy white surface on one side (for authenticity the other side must be cardboard color!!!).
- Printer: Color laser for durability.

3: Yes the two long sides are identical.

Thanks a ton i really didn't expect a responce

I will be edgerly awaiting a responce for the size
Use ML or Inchs, which ever one will yield an exact measurement.

Your welcome, see my first post for the measurements.

They are in Centimetres, divide them with 2,54 to get inches.

And if the bottom parts are too hard to do you can always the bottom like to top, it's not perfect but somewhat easier.

(Like One I can cut out and make?)

No, it isn't as hard as it sounds, my explanation is just confusing. Actually on only the bottom part explanation is.

These two pictures should help:

EDIT: I will make a drawing that explains it better, and scan it when I get my scanner back, probably tomorrow.

That would be awesome

you could lay the case flat then trace it. That way we can just apply images to the template, print and easily assemble.

These are raw sketches what opened box would look like

http://www.thecoverproject.net/uploads/raw/Arseen.custom.raw_nes_box1_sw.jpg
http://www.thecoverproject.net/uploads/raw/Arseen.custom.raw_nes_box2_sw.jpg

On picture 1 black lines mean cutting, reds bending.
On picture 2, texts mean to which parts they attach, gray areas are to be cut away.

Hope these help.

Opening actual box and tracing it would not help, because scanning anyway distorts the dimensions.
Although some one could take raw scans and make NES box template, my computer (or skills) are not good enough to do it.

I've made this a while back...
http://www.acoders.com/members/johnsprogram/nesbox_template.psd

I'm not sure how accurate it is, but since I made it in Photoshop Elements, it's as helpful as it gets.

It's different on different boxes as you can see:

It's so far as best as it gets as I tried it out many times. So, it is to scale, but let me know if it's not.
