Here's something you don't see every day. This is a floppy disk that has the PlayStation Electronic Templates. It was supplied to design agencies who were creating packaging for PlayStation games. On it should be the templates for the cover sheet, disk label and instruction manual for PlayStation games. It is untested and sold as-is.

Sold for $5. :(

UncleBob got in touch with him and he's willing to sell us a copy. He/she also has a ton of other official template disks.

Sort of exciting, but this would be the templates for the jewel cases wouldn't it? Most people want PS1 covers in DVD case format so I don't understand why this is all that exciting.

I don't know if more people want the DVD conversions than reatil but i do think there are a lot more request for it.  Having the original foramt is equaly important though. If its on a floppy i'm surious what format these come in. I think its really exciting though!  ;D

I'd be happy to contribute. Although I'd suggest perhaps just getting one of them first, to see what they're like and if it's worth getting the rest.

Agreed. But I think we can do better than $10 each. Also, we might not need every single template he posted.

Let's see how much he's willing to barter, I mean we could pool some money together and just get all of them.  I'm willing to chip in 10 dollars to snowcone or whoever it is we'd be trusting with the money.

Same here assuming I have any money left after I pay some expenses.

The guy has created a decent amount of video game covers...wonder if he can upload some original copies? That would be really sweet.

Hello folks! UncleBob invited me here to speak for myself. Nice to meet y'all.

So yeah, I have a ton of official templates for all of the major platforms going back to Genesis and Super Nintendo, since that's when I started designing packaging. However, since cover-art twiddling is a profession for me and not a hobby like it is for you guys, I hope you will understand that I would want to charge at least a little something for taking the effort to supply you guys with your wants.

So what sorts of things you guys want the most and how much you'd pay for it? :)

errr.... sorry about that.  Didn't even consider it - in the slightest.  :-[ :-[ :-[

Anywhoo, the obvious question everyone is going to ask - what type of stuff is typically on the discs?  Obviously, the packaging cover templates - does that include things like company logos, ESRB rating logos, stuff relating to region coding (NTSC, PAL, etc.)?

Thanks for stopping by!

Also, and I hope I don't make anyone mad at me by saying this - if it would help you out (i.e.: perhaps help not tick off any potential clients), you might consider not selling/releasing us current generation stuff (360, PS3, Wii, DS, PSP).  Obviously, we'll want it all - but no one wants you to be out of work or anything. :)

Cover templates, disk label templates, instruction manual templates and submission guidelines are what are typically on the disks, usually in PDF or Illustrator format. The old Genesis and SNES stuff is in Quark format. When I started, Nintendo wouldn't accept electronic files. There were Quark templates, but the actual art had to be submitted mechanically -- pasteup boards with tissue overlays and hand-written color callouts by pantone code.

Logos themselves aren't supplied -- just positions for where they go specified. I have most company logos already though and have access to the ESRB site for their latest logos.

I don't mind sharing current gen templates.

Edit: screen shot of what's on the GameCube template disk:

I purchased the GameCube files - compressed, it's 40 MB and I can't even open half of it up. ;)

What to do with it all?

You could just zip/rar/7zip it up and upload it to mediafire or something.

So how much was it so we all know what we're getting into?
