Title: *** DONE *** SNES - Various Games - NTSC (some raws included)
Post by: KaiserWAVE on June 11, 2009, 09:41:32 AM
DONE!!!!!

I needed a boatload of covers and a lot of people helped me out! Thank you all!

All box scans in this thread were courtesy of http://npes.free.fr/ (http://npes.free.fr/)
Check them out, they are great and have lots of high res and sometimes cleaned box scans. Mostly PAL games though but highly useful for custom cover makers.

So that's my request. A hefty one I know. But I'm so close to finishing my collection after all these years, I thouht I'd give it a try.

I made this double post so that I can update the progress of my request without messing with the actual request thread. Yeah, I know, very optimistic ;)

FINAL EDIT (#12)  7/04/09:

Thanks to Beastman1975 I could axe 2 covers from my request, Flashback and Indiana Jones. Thank you!
the7k did some awesome custom covers for Weapon Lord, Dead Dance, Hagane and Desert Fighter. Thank you!
Grumbleduke was kind enough to make a Super Probotector and Super Punch Out cover for me. Thank you for that mate ;)
M47R1X to the rescue... :) He came , saw, and kicked some serious ass :) He did amazing covers for EarthWorm Jim 2, Skyblazer, Mystic Quest, Blackhawk, Magical Quest, Demon's Crest, Unirally, Metal Combat, Phalanx, Castlevania Vampire's Kiss, Space Mega Force, Super Turrican, Super Turrican 2 Rock 'N Roll Racing and Barkley Shut Up And Jam for me. Very Much appreciated!!! I can't thank you enough!

I know I sent you a PM, but just to make sure you can see the images, I'm posting it here too. Here are my alphas for EJ2

The cover looks great but just giving you a heads up all the spines for vertical snes covers are black and have no artwork.

Aw man... I thought it looked good with it... ah well, better stick to the guidelines.

:/ It's not going to kill you to have one game in your collection that has an "artsy" spine.

I mean, the guy made it for you when he really didn't have to. Be thankful you got something at all.

You might want to check who the request was from, then check who the advice was from - oh, and then check who made the template and 90% of the covers for the template.  ::)

:/ It's not going to kill you to have one game in your collection that has an "artsy" spine.

If he would like he can make an alternate version with the art going over the spine.
There should be a version with a black spine so it is still uniform with ALL the other covers that we currently have.

I mean, the guy made it for you when he really didn't have to. Be thankful you got something at all.

You must be right ... making ~350 covers & ~10 templates for other people who i don't even know with no personal reward in my free time... i need to learn a thing or too about being thankful.  ::) EDIT: That was kind of Jerk Comment by me

I thought i was still being respectful and just simply requesting the cover to be uniform, thats it.  :)

Finally it's getting crowded in here. I like it :)

@  M47R1X
Thanks for the EWJ2 covers. I really appreciate it. If you want to make an artsy spine go ahead and do it. We can add it. But as Shenske said for the sake of uniformity please make a black spine version if you find the time. I myself am looking for a black spine version to maintain the uniform look.

@ somunny
That's great news. Thanks for that. I'm looking forward to seing the finished work!

oh, and @ lavender
3 posts and already trouncing people. Great way to introduce yourself. Have fun on the forums ;)

@ lavender - we are a friendly bunch here - but your post to shenske was pretty aggressive.  he wasn't the person who made the request, but he IS the person who made the template, and was merely offering advice on how to use it (as he himself has made a stack of covers with it, and set the standard)

oh and kaiser didn't say trouncing 3 people, he said you were trouncing people on your third post.

anyway - welcome to the forums - might be worth having a bit of a look around and getting to know us before 'defending' anyone else.

Really, it's fine, I just enjoy doing it and doing stuff for others. I was raised that way  ;D . Here is a preview of a version with the original cover art (I have been using an official image by SHINY, but it's not the cover. This is JUST A GLIMPSE, I'm nowhere near done yet.

Oh, and it' a great help to me if everyone who's doing one of these announces which ones they are doing. Still working on EJ2 here, when I'm done I'll pick the next one.

EDIT!!!

Since I hate double posts, here is what I have so far. It's just a preview, but I don't think it needs any changes. But I could always be wrong. The text on the back is legible on the real version and it's ready to go. Basically this is the Euro artwork in the NTSC stylings. I believe that is what we were going for, right? After this I'm going after Mystic Quest Legends, BTW.

And the other art versions:

and one in true PAL stylings:

Great!!! Thanky you so much!!

Could you please make a Mystic Quest Legend cover with black spine and in the NTSC template? This is how I want all my covers to look like. Oh, but be warned that this rendition of the cover would be just for me and won't be hosted because that game never existed that way. Same goes for all the other covers in my request if you feel like doing them. All black spine and in the NTSC template.

Gotcha. You had said the fourth version of EJ2 you liked, and I had forgotten to delete the 1st, so I guess I was thinking the 5th. Ma bad. I'll jump on that. But in the mean time, here is an all PAL version of Skyblazer:

http://www.thecoverproject.net/uploads/M47R1X.custom.snes_skyblazerpal-snes-m47r1x_eu.jpg

I'll make the NTSC version likety-split.

Unirally:

I think I'm taking a break for a while. I got alot of other crap (non-cover related) to deal with, such as applying for grad school and junk. Apparently you have to do that over a year in advance. I've downloaded all the raws and will be taking a look. Those raws really REALLY helped, just so you know.

Um.... I'm quite aware of that.... did you check what this thread is about? It's PAL art and title and info and junk in the NTSC format. Sorry if that sounds rude. It's my sense of humor.

thanks to everyone else working on the snes covers they look great!
Title: Re: SNES - Various Games - NTSC (some raws included)
Post by: KaiserWAVE on July 01, 2009, 05:00:15 AM
Shenske my friend, without your template I wouldn't be as close to finally "covering" my collection as I am now. In addition you did quite some covers for me before I made this request public. So don't feel obliged to to anything. You're iny my cool book already ;)

The hardest cover would be Castlevania Vampire's Kiss as the Euro version has a completeley different artwork. Also the four covers I don't have artwork for are probably the hardest in my request as they will have to be custom made. I thought the Turricans would be easy but I was really surprised that it's quite hard to find some artwork to work with. everytime I found something it had some text or something else on it. So if you want to do some of these try the Turricans as it is one of my favourite series or ne of the other two without artwork.

Not to forget M47R1X, I really don't know what to say without constantly repeating myself, but I really thank you. From the bottom of my heart, as corny as this may sound now :) I'll move all your PAL games in NTSC templates to my folder so they won't be deleted. Anyone who needs them is free to contact me. Would be a shame to just delete them if there's a chance anyone else might need 'em.

Heh, no prob. All right, here's my Metal Combat and Phalanx covers, served up hot:

Metal Combat

Phalanx

http://www.thecoverproject.net/uploads/M47R1X.custom.snes_phalanx-snes-m47r1x.jpg

Workin on Space Megaforce now.

In the mean time, here are my attempts at Castlevania covers:

In my honest opinion, the first looks better, but both were from lo-medium res scans.... pfft... the first one is the Japanese version cover. Same artwork. woo.

I like it. Here is a version with it:

And here is Space Megaforce. That front image was a PAIN. Had to remove a bunch of crap they had covering part of the right side of the image, not to mention I had to have some of the black bar covering the right side.... sigh... I think that's the best it can get, UNLESS I find some better art. Man, Demon's Crest was a find. I found the website of the artist who painted the cover, and had uploaded a high-res scan of the original artwork, no crap on it. VERY nice.

http://www.thecoverproject.net/uploads/M47R1X.custom.snes_smfnoblackbar-snes-m47r1x.jpg

And here's Super Turrican (I remade the logo, all the available ones were lo-res and thus crap):

Just so you know next week I will be in Boston and will most likely be devoid of internet access. I will try to get one or two done tomorrow if I can, but if I can't, then I won't get any more done for a week. Figured I'd give a heads-up.

Hope this is good enough - I couldn't find any info on the EU release, and it was even pretty hard to find any info on the US and JP releases. Pretty much all custom here, although I tried to base the logo off of images of the EU version I saw on eBay.

Had time to pop one out, may even have enough time to finish them off. We'll see. Here's Super Turrican 2. BTW, the original art for the two games was DAMN NEAR EXACTLY THE SAME, so I opted for custom art. Really, the only difference was that for 2 (PAL) they mirrored the art and changed the background. Woo. I tried to copy the logo on this one. Not as easy as Super Turrican 1, tho.

Post by: KaiserWAVE on July 04, 2009, 04:37:24 AM
That's incredible! A month ago I Pm'ed Shenske with a request and I needed around 40 covers. A month and a few PMs to other members later all the covers are done and my collection is finally complete. If that is not proof enough that this is a great community then I don't know what else you need to be convinced ??? ???

Some covers I needed were already on the site, done by different people. I'll namecheck all of you once I have printed out all the covers. Then I'll make a post in the "Photo Gallery" to showcase my finished collection.

For the time being I would like to thank the7k, who did some awesome custom covers for me, some put together with random images I gave him and my concept of how I would like them to be arranged. And the best thing, they all looked exactly like I had them pictured in my mind. You are great, sir :)

Grumbleduke, who did some special requests and conversions of covers and some custom jobs of which he knew they were just for me and would not be hosted. And all that while he was pumping out his own covers :) Thank you for that!

Beastman1975, who was eager to help me out with two covers after I Pm'ed him

Of course M47R1X, who showed a lot of ambition after I PM'ed him with a link to my request and then just went crazy and plowed through them in record time.

and last but not least Shenske! He made the uber awesome template and made all this possible in the first place. He also was very helpful when I was gathering my missing covers and sent him a list with about 40 games. Others would have backed off there but he was willing and kind enough to help me getting started. All that while real life had some unpleasent surpirses for him. I can't thank you enough!

Yeah, I know, sounds like a crappy Oscar acceptance speech :D

Oh, @M47R1X:
Enjoy your stay in Boston and have a great time. Ever since the GBA to DS and then the N64 to UGC project started on CAG I hoped someone would try to do the same thing with SNES games. Almost 3 years later I finally have all the covers I need all in a matching template.
There are maybe a handful (like 4 I think) games that I'm interested in but I held off buying them until now because they are pretty rare (at least in Europe) and I wasn't sure if I wanted to hunt them down and then be agian in need of covers :) Right now I'm just happy I have all I want. Happy is an understatement, I can't believe it :) All I want right now is to get a new printer asap and showcase my collection to the people who helped me out big time. But the great thing is, IF I decide to buy a new game, I now know who to ask for a cover :)
