Cover Showcase

Here, you may post a link to any and every cover you have made. This includes any cover not allowed to be uploaded to The Cover Project for whatever reason. Box.net (http://www.box.net) works well for this purpose. Please limit your uploads to things related to video game covers.

I made this for fun, but don't see a real use for it. Braid is digital distribution only.

Something I whipped up last night, using the same template as pretty much every other PC game I'm about to upload covers for. I even made a cool little Amano style logo for it (hey I'm proud of that lol)

For those who don't know, Final Fantasy VII: AVALANCHE is a cool beat'em up fan game released as freeware. I'm a fan of it, so I made a little tribute to it.

Hi guys.

I read somewhere else that TCP doesn't allow unreleased/unlicensed games covers. Is that true? If so, why?

I recently got to design several covers for these kind of games for a friend who has a HUGE collection, including many cancelled (Wildsnake, Baby's Day Out, Congo), unlicensed (Yang Warrior Family, Top Fighter 2000) or SegaNet games (once only available through Sega's japanese online service for the Mega Drive, like Pyramid Magic or Doki Doki Pengin Land).

So, I wanted to contribute to the site by uploading these covers, but I guess they're not allowed? Can I show them in this thread then?

Create Mediafire or Boxnet account, upload there, and then give us the link.

Like the red text in my posts.

Are unlicensed games NOT allowed in TCP? I understand pirate stuff should be forbidden, but also cancelled and homebrew games? Why so?

Yeah, those aren't allowed.  As for why they aren't, the short and simple answer is that because this place is ridiculously paranoid and doesn't want to host ANYTHING that they feel might potentially anger game publishers.

This and because a cover for a game not released may be nice to look at but ultimately useless if the game doesn't exist.

I don't think that's the issue. There's an infinite amount of unlicensed / hacked games. There's nothing illegal about artwork for an unlicensed game beyond whatever logos we use.

I dunno. Is licensing a game which runs on a certain hardware not mandatory?

it is mandatory, but going back a few quotes ... Bible Adventures, Shockwave, Pac-Man (Tengen version, not by Namco), and Gauntlet are on the site which are Unlicensed games for the NES, so that "rule" has been broken, even if they're well known games, they're still unlicensed.

My thoughts exactly. These games DO exist. I own a few. But lots of them are sold without any cover so I was asked to design the ones I posted above, and some more.

There were ways around it. Plenty of notable physical unlicensed game carts out there.

Nice going Dick, be an ass for everyone.  Oh yeah, welcome to our site, now **** off.  My two cents

I don't notice any kind of confrontational attitdue or "dickery" in his posts. Yours on the other hand...

I think you need to lay off. There's no excuse for your needless hostility.

Well if you're going to jump down members' throats for not knowing better it'd help if we had something that, you know, clearly outlined these things. If a newbie actually could be expected to know this stuff when joining, then maybe I'd feel a bit different here.

Of course that's something that's being worked on right now so hey.

Designing covers just happens to me one of my primary hobbies. I frequently submit my stuff over at VGBoxart (http://www.vgboxart.com).

A few that I'm most proud of would be:
Pokemon Blue (http://vgboxart.com/view/26245/pokemon.blue/?replies=14)
Pokemon Red (http://vgboxart.com/view/26082/pokemon.red/?replies=29)
Sonic (http://vgboxart.com/view/37116/sonic.the.hedgehog/?replies=63)
Sonic 2 (http://vgboxart.com/view/42547/sonic.the.hedgehog.2/?replies=36)
Portal (http://vgboxart.com/view/40254/portal/?replies=34)
Left 4 Dead (http://vgboxart.com/view/41772/left.4.dead/?replies=29)
Bushido Blade (http://vgboxart.com/view/43016/bushido.blade/?replies=20)
P.N.03 (http://vgboxart.com/view/43333/pn03/?replies=11)
And lastly, an alternate take on the original Legend of Zelda. (http://vgboxart.com/view/43398/the.legend.of.zelda/?replies=23)

Long term, one of my goals is to have my own custom cover for every game in my collection. It's not that far fetched since I don't have a particularly large collection at this point.

Cover showcase. Most of the covers are originals but the Sega 32x games do have some printed covers. Used the plastic boxes to avoid the paper box deterorating over time. Only a part of the collection. didnt put up the Xbox / 360 collection images. Used links because the pics would not upload properly.  ;)

Yes we has Mortal Kombat 4 (I think  done by N64Guy):

(http://www.mediafire.com/conv/d3c25b4537924f5288587b1cadc5a5cf94cb501046345e7c35e0d720d2d87b196g.jpg) (http://www.mediafire.com/view/?48yz3wlvrq8lz8b)

It too has same flaw as yours, the spine back image is upside down (which we prefer to be green BTW).
I like the image you chose to the back cover's back ground, but it could have bit more contrast to make it pop up bit more.

I'm working on a concept for a unified template for all my Gameboy/Color/Advance games. They're supposed to go in these Poly Box CD cases I have, that have 10mm spines. GBA games might not even fit in those, but I don't collect those anyway. The point is just to have a uniform-looking design. Here's a few mockups:

At the moment, I'm really just fumbling around, so I would love to hear your opinion. There are a few problems I've already noticed, such as the drop shadow on the front logo, and the spine looking a bit awkward, low res artwork etc… I'm working on those.
Oh, and while I love minimalistic designs, I'm trying to keep this template low maintenance, so the front and back are supposed to stay as close to retail as possible. Combined with the low res scans, this results in the uneven white borders on the front that you've no doubt noticed. I'm hoping this will be much less apparent once the games are cased.

I know this is an old post, but just wanted to remind everyone that i have the foam inserts for the poly cases. They will fit any portable or "card" game that can fit in the poly cases. If anyone wants a free sample just let me know.

I am selling these for $0.50 each + $3.99 shipping per order.

They're specifically for my store. And again, they're for repros. This one took me the better half of an entire day to get right.

I don't have any specific plans to make a vertical cover, but there's nothing stopping me from doing one other than other projects I'm working on.

Yeah maybe later down the road when your not busy you can make one. Just bought the game loose cart and it is surprisingly fun. Thanks!

I actually do have a problem with this. You are selling TheCoverProject covers for profit on your ebay store and there is NO MENTION of where you are getting the covers from. Your description on your products insinuate that you designed them.

You are profiting off of the members' here hard work.  Sure you are making a few of your own but the vast majority are not your own. With just a few clicks through your ebay store I looked through my Pokemon covers. You have sold 410 copies of my pokemon covers alone. Its costs $0.50 to print, $0.80 per poly case (after shipping), $2 to ship to customer (being generous here assuming they only buy 1 case, obviously bulk is cheaper).  You sell them for $10 each, turning a profit of $6.80 per sale.

So just off of 9 covers i have made you have turned a profit of $2788 from my hard work.  :o
Your ebay store has over 5000 covers/cases to purchase and I only dug into 9 of them.

Old subject but still not cool

I agree, nice covers though

I agree that you should not be able to post link to your store but what bugs me more is you come in here posting pics of these covers and don't post links. It's ok for you to take covers that people post here and make money off of it but you can't provide covers to help out in return.

I wish, it's way way lower than that. We're talking around $2.00 a case.

ebay breakdown

cost of the poly case
paypal fee
eBay sale fee
ebay insertion fee
cost of printing/ printing paper
cost of shipping envelope
cost of shipping label
cost to PRINT the shipping label
auctiva subscription
monthly ebay store fee
taxes

and then around 10% of my sales have to be refunded due to people not reading and thinking they get the game with the case, or a case getting damaged in shipping where I have to send out a replacement for free.

I'm sure there's more fees i'm forgetting, but I'm not going to use that as an excuse for what I do. On the plus side I've been contributing raws, and I'm running a huge topic on 4chan where people are contributing scans to the site almost daily now which you can find here.

https://boards.4chan.org/vr/res/1350091

So with that said, the signature link is gone. If there any mods who want some of my repro covers for their own personal copies of the game feel free to hit me up with a PM and I can forward one to you. I'm trying to do one cover for every repro I can think of once a day, and I think I'm doing pretty good so far.

In Wingz defense, he has been trying to give back to the cover project by providing random scans. However... If someone from the Cover project wanted to print one of his covers, I do hope he at least considers it.  ;D

"If someone from the Cover project wanted to print one of his covers, I do hope he at least considers it.  Grin"

Like I said, send me a PM and I can send you a link no problem.

I'm trying to get as many scans towards the site as I can. I'm going to be running that topic on 4chan pretty much nonstop every day so by the end of it I'm pretty sure it should zero out my karma to "wingzrow is ok...i guess" :)

With that said, I upped 5 sega master system covers around an hour ago, and I have around 7 more I need to add to the public mediafire folder for the site later today.

On another note, can someone explain why so few entries are actually uploaded to the site proper? SEGamer's covers especially are top quality, and I see zero reason why a game like say, dune for the sega genesis, isn't up for everyone to download, when the alternative is having no cover at all.  This is really making it hard for me to compile the "covers we still need" list that I want to forward to 4chan.

Using any resource from a known pedophilia gathering site is not exactly paying it forward. Its giving a pedophilia site a resource of video game covers, which last i checked, happened to be enjoyed by kids across the globe. Maybe we can just upload some raw scans of candy bar wrappers and a couple quick recipes instead.

"This is Pedobear, and he wants to meet your children.

That's right. Where everywhere else pedophiles are thought of as the malignant ass of society that deserves to die, on 4Chan they get a cute little mascot."

@wingzrow

Are you not providing links to your cover directly because you fear other people or repro makers might download them and make money from them?  I know you put hard work into these and you don't want someone else making money from something you made.
.... I'm seeing some parallels here. I agree with Wiggy, this all seems very hypocritical.

Also, about the profit margin: I did not factor ebay fees into my math BUT ebay fees are associated with a percentage of the selling fee. There is NO WAY ebay would take half of your listing price for their cut. I did factor or paper and printing costs to my math above too. I could walk into any printshop and get 8.5 x 14 full color prints for a max of $0.80 on pretty much whatever paper i want (except cardstock and sticker paper). Even with the other fees and having to ship our another case every once and a while there is no way your profit margin in less than $5 per sale.

Providing a few scans here and there and making a forum post on 4chan does not equal out to all the money you are making off of this site. The way i see it; you are taking advantage of the free work done here and are poorly trying to hide in plain site.

My two cents are said, I'm not dragging this out any more
(And this is coming from the "nice guy" CoverAdmin)

This is all too familiar.  Anyone remember Lame Case World?  Also hiding in plain sight, sharing like 1 scan every 2 months, and then pretending that they were some sort of asset to the community. They also liked to post covers which they made themselves (though few and far between), but without download links.

If you're not gonna share what you're making, then don't bother posting about it.  It's a crappier thing to do than just not posting about it at all. It's a tease, nothing more.

I have to say that I agree. In full disclosure, i do sell cases too. However, i post every cover i make that isn't on the site. And i try to do all i can to provide scans and make covers when i can. (Although I haven't been around much lately, sorry  :()The only reason I can see him needing to be PM'd is that he doesn't want competition selling those covers he made. If you are going to sell other artists cases the least you can do is post the ones you make.

As for price. I also know this is a sensitive topic. But $10 per case is a bit much. I have been selling on eBay since 1999 and even taking account all the "fees". With me selling the cases at $6 shipped, I make about $1.50 per case even with all the fees. $10 per case is a $5.50 profit minimum. Even with all the fees mentioned.

On a related note, I was at the nearby Vintage Stock and noticed they had FF6 and Chrono Trigger for sell with UGCases and the vertical covers on them.

Which means someone was savvy enough to either case their own game or bought the case off of eBay.  Which would make you think they would be aware of the typical price for Chrono Trigger but he still sold it to Vintage Stock for 20-ish bucks so they could turn around and sell it for 80.

It could be that the store cases the games themselves. We case all games we sell. It's a nicer presentation on the shelf then just loose carts.

I kind of doubt it since there were only 2 cased games.  They have several other rare games in the same display that were cased, and the hundreds of other carts that weren't cased.  They're also a 20+ store chain that also owns another smaller chain, they'd probably be a big roll out of cases if they were to do it.

Making cases for Sega ST-V carts in the style of Genesis/Megadrive cases. Goes on EA Sports Genesis cases that have spines 1.25 inches wide. Otherwise, the cart just won't fit.

Thanks man, I appreciate it.

I use the same thing basically, although you can use slightly smaller boxes for AW carts. Like, ST-V needs 1 and 1/4 inch spines while AW needs 1 and 1/8 inch spines.

I posted instructions and such in this blog post: http://www.destructoid.com/blogs/the7k/making-atomiswave-st-v-cases-from-crap-py-genesis-sports-games--276614.phtml

Here's my latest little project and I think I came out rather well. Not sure how many people will find either of these useful, but here you go. I uploaded them but as usual, nothing.

outside my work on the Master System covers that I already had posted around here, I'm also doing some covers for my digital games and some few homebrews.. just for put in the shelf... I know, looks a dumb idea, but yeah.. here some previews:

the last one is actually an edit from a Box Art by the user "pokemar" on VGBoxArt;.. I just added and changed some personal details for my collection.

EDIT: Oh, in case of being wondering why the key image from the front is not in the best quality.. first of all, when I did a little research for this, I couldn't find...but after, I had the idea of replacing Shovel Knight's image and the logo from the front for with renders with better quality on purpose to pop out in the cover. =P (not the best way to fix the whole thing, but.. yeah)

They work for me if I click on the link, but I'm not seeing any preview image on the forum page.  I'm not familiar with dropbox, but mediafire includes links to imbed images into forums.  I'm guessing that dropbox has something similar.  It will probably be different than the "sharing" link.

Love that kind of stuff.  For my Star Fox 2 box, I added "Made in Corneria" instead of the usual ole' thing.  I also write up sarcastic descriptions, like that the Mario 2 (Japanese version) is "new and original" haha.  Which it really wasn't. :)

Oh, and I threw the Canucks (and my fave player when I was a kid back in 93, Bure) on the cover of NHLPA 93... which was sort of like my childhood dream (I was always pissed they didn't put MY team on the box art! haha)

Anyways, little things make me happy...

Nice!

I've got about 50 PS2 cases sitting around. Not sure if you'd have any interest in them. Many, if not most have the memory card clips. The sleeves are all a bit worn, but they're actually really easy to replace if you've got the time and motivation :)

Kinda new to TCP, thought I might share this ACNL cover I did a week or two ago. Not sure if it's exactly if it would fit as I am also new to making custom covers. I used a cover from TCP as a base, so I think it should be fine. Any feedback would be appreciated

That looks good snakehugz. It's not often we see a custom cover with hand-drawn art! I would suggest adding the video game system logo somewhere on the front and/or spine. If you are looking to add more to the back, maybe add a game description and some screenshots.

Thanks for the feedback! Unfortunately, I don't have the original .psd file anymore, so it'll be more difficult to add the 3ds logo in but I'll see what I can do on that end (I'm in the process of making another custom cover right now actually, so I'll keep that in mind). As for the back, I was going for something sort of like the steelboxes certain console games have, and the ones I've seen in images and in person don't have anything info wise on the back, so that's what I did.

Just a heads up, e_brugal has recreated quite a few of the NES covers with retail spines here: http://www.thecoverproject.net/forums/index.php?topic=20352.0. It might save you some time converting covers that have already been done.

He's been taking a break from the site lately to spend time with his family, but I'd image he'll be back at some point to finish the project.

After ordering an EverDrive N8, I thought of creating this fun little cover while looking at my NES Classic...

(https://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y146/ElMariachi003/NES-Cl-cover.jpg) (https://s4.photobucket.com/user/ElMariachi003/media/NES-Cl-cover.jpg.html)

Made my own template based on an 11x14" sheet (the size of the semi-gloss paper I use for printing), set to the slightly modified CGC dimensions shared by Moviefan2K4, and using shenske's NES assets. I may just throw the Classic's UPC barcode on it for the heck of it. I'm also making a matching cartridge label because, why not?  ;D

Tried something for a DVD cover - as I realised that it was possible to store about 3 GBA Cartridges in one case. I still need to do some 3D-Printing to hold the cartridges inside nicely, but I've made the cover just to see how it would look.

3 GBA cartridges in one case, 3 Donkey Kong Country games released on the GBA, that's perfect!

Noticed there wasn't a cover for the US version of SMS Great Golf. Finished this yesterday and uploaded. Not sure if/when it'll be uploaded to the main site but thought in the mean time others could find use for it (links to full size, designed to be cropped to 3330x2100 to fit the current generation of UGC cases):

(https://i.ibb.co/dksjXbT/SMS-UGC-Great-Golf.png) (https://ibb.co/nQq643G)

Used a scan from somewhere on the net of the US cover to recreate from scratch. Found a couple of fonts that pretty closely match the original typeface as a base and then updated the paths to match the original shapes.

I've also just finished Great Baseball:

Any critiques are welcome!

Thank you! Took awhile to get back into the swing of it using shapes and layer masks in PhotoShop but I think I got the vector art pretty well duplicated.

The fonts where a bit harder -- found a base font (Modern No. 20) that was really close to the title's on these... ended up converting those to shapes and editing the paths directly. With these two covers I have all the letters from them for future games as I get them in. :)

If anybody's interested in the source PDF's for these I'd be happy to make them available.

Font's are always something I struggle with when having to re-type everything.  It always feels like I can't get the 100% correct font and usually end up with something that's closer to 95% correct.

That's been the struggle with these. I can get a font that's almost perfect. For these two covers I ended up changing font kerning for almost every word to get it to closely match the original scale.

I've found the fonts Modern No. 20 to be the nearest match for the titles of these and Garamond Nova Light to be the closest match for the back text. For the title text the font paths had to be played with directly to get them right.

I'm curious, where did everyone go? Is there another cover site that replaced this one? I hope I'm not missing out.
I uploaded this to the PS1 section, but it's probably for naught. Looks like that section was last updated 2017.  :-\
I'm trying to make nice jewel case covers for my disc-only tall box games, since a lot fewer tall boxes have survived over time. (I'm doing the same thing for Sega CD and Saturn.)

I can't speak for everyone but I think some of it just it's a busy time of year for a lot of people.  I know I haven't had quite as much time to work on covers recently and when I do work on one, it's for something I need personally.  I don't have any plans to abandon this site by any means.

Same.  I own/run a domaine with holiday homes - this is my peak season.  I’ll be back to it when real life allows.  I still check in multiple times a day, mostly to remove spam, just not necessarily posting.
