I traded in a LOT of doubles and found myself with a large chunk of store credit...decided to finally pull the trigger on one of these...

Only problem is I can't figure out if it's US or Japanese model.

Speaking from Nordic country:
Even we know summer is not ending after August.

Grats on joining the Neo Geo owners club. First off, don't worry about the region. Just get a Bios mod done to improve the function and life of the system.

Invest in an MVS converter as well. They are pricey, but it'll save you in the long run since MVS carts are generally significantly cheaper than AES carts.

I don't share all my pickups but this one is too good to not share. Muv Luv Kickstarter delivered this week. Visited a Gamestop to pickup a copy of Shantae for Vita and they also gave me the soundtrack the person traded in. What a good week!

Some recent Sega pickups. Atomic runner is an obscure early 90's run 'n gun that I'd never played. It has continuous scrolling, which takes some getting used to as you can't go back, but it's a pretty good game with excellent animation & graphics.

August is typically the hottest month here in northeast Ohio :/

Farewell to "summer pickups" was supposed to be the emphasis. It was late, I was tired.

I dread the 113 degree August days that are coming to Alabama.

Gotta love Seattle weather. Always between 75-80 in the summer. Perfect temp!

Normally, I understand the reason for companies giving cartridges a different color (SNES DOOM is red because it's bloody and violent, Ocarina of Time is gold because it's like a treasure and also it's a series tradition, Killer Instinct on SNES is black because it's edgy, DK64 is yellow because of bananas..), but why on earth Ubisoft made Rayman 2 green?
anyway, the guy who sold me this, send me the game inside a VHS case; that's nice! I got all nostalgic from the days of rental games.

Not exactly a normal pickup post... But I'm counting it. I ordered a custom shell for my switch months ago and attempted to do the swap. Everything went well except for the left joycon. Nothing about it wanted to work right. I struggled with it so much, it was really demoralizing me. I ended up just setting my switch aside and only really making minor attempts to get it working, never with success.
Gave up earlier this week and ordered a replacement left joycon and received it today. Just finished the swap and tested it. Completed an entire Mario Kart race with no problems. I can't begin to tell you how relieved I am. I actually had an adrenaline surge when I booted it up to test.
All that being said, fuck the joycons. This is by far the most difficult mod I've ever attempted. Tiny ass ribbon cables, cramped spaces, 3 layers of components. Would have been easier if I had to solder it all.
Anyways, I'm so happy right now!

I did this mod myself a few months back, but only went with the Joy Cons. Definitely ended up being more work than anticipated. What I thought was going to be a 15-20 minute swap, ended up taking me about 45 minutes. There's definitely a lot more going on inside those Joy Cons than you might think and everything is packed pretty tight. But all said and done, I absolutely love the end result and the D-pad actually feels and works great. Much better than I expect from a 3rd party shell kit. Wish they had more options for solid colours though, I'm not a big fan of translucent.

My pickups from MO Game Con 2018. I didn't get much, but they are big titles that I've wanted.
Turn out was great this year. Every year this con has grown.

Sorry I missed you. I was watching for you, but there were a lot of people this year. Unfortunately, due to my schedule, I couldn't get there until about an hour after they opened, which meant there were pretty much no panels to get into. Chuck said he could probably get me into Metal Jesus as standing room, but I wasn't able to stay that long anyway. Oh well. I'm glad to see it's been growing as much as it has in just 3 years.
While I'm happy that it's growing, I will also say that the nice thing about it being smaller last year was the fact that last year I could walk into any panel I wanted, and I could even walk up to the guests and talk to them. You could still talk to the guests this year, but it was so busy that it was just a lot more difficult.
-
No worries, I think I saw you walking around but didn't "run into you". I didn't try going to any of the panels although the one with the whole Metal Jesus cast would have been the one I would have been interested in. I was going to go over and maybe talk to a few of them after I was done shopping but they were not around at the time ( I think the panel was still going on). My only real complaint was that my phone data sucked in there which meant looking up prices was not as easy as it usually is :P

I had the same issue. I could get data, but it was super slow.
Still, it was a much better location compared to last year.

Oh you bastard, I want that kolibri box. I know it's a shitty system, but I'm working on trying to get a complete set of that one. Sitting at like 22 games, with 16 CIB

Ha! I'm right there with you. I just need World Series Baseball to complete my set as far as games go. I'm missing a few manuals (Kolibri and WWF RAW) and my Spiderman is cart only which is totally fine with me. If it makes any difference, the Kolibri box is far from great shape lol.

Got this because Bear reminded me that I wanted one.

Okami Vinyl preorder for Oct.

So, not a gaming pickup per say, but I use my computer for some games once in a while so, it counts, right...
Picked up a load of frustration and aggravation today... Windows 10 did an update (despite me seemingly having told my computer not to in multiple ways). After the update, my laptop would not go into sleep mode. Well, it actually did, but only for two seconds, then the drive and fans started whirring again. When I open the lid to resume, the screen wouldn't come back one, even though the computer was running. Fed up with this crap, I went to roll back the latest update, only to find it get stuck in a "restoring your files" loop where it would constantly restart itself over and over again. That ran for about three hours before I decided it just wasn't working. So, I had to reinstall windows. Thankfully, I was able to recover my files (500+ GB worth - Tuesday is my normal backup day and I'd added a lot since the last time, not worrying about it because before the 'update' my system was running wonderfully). Unfortunately, all my apps, programs, and personal setting were wiped, so I have to spend at least a full day reinstalling all of those. Over three dozen things that I use at least weekly need to be readded, so... FUN!!!
Sorry about the rant. Was ever so close to tossing this damned laptop in the pool a few hours ago. Seems to be running fine now with the new windows install. Even fixed the sleep issue apparently. This whole mess has made me decide to invest in a solid state hard drive, so I'll be switching the HDD out soonish. That way if Windows next 'super awesome update' breaks the sleep cycle again, I can just power down and not need to wait ten minutes to boot up and kill a few processes that always start, even though I have them set not to. Been wanting a SSD for a while, so I'm just gonna do it.
Made myself feel better from all the frustration by buying a new Midnight Blue PS4 controller tonight though. Got it at Target with a Costco price match and gift card, so brand new Midnight Blue controller for $40.

I got mine in today too!
I also picked up a new Logitech remote for my man cave. Best buy has a deal on the harmony ultimate one, for only $80 if you're a rewards member. Also picked up a few strategy guides to add to the collection from the local half Price books.
Random side question, anyone planning to go to the Grand Ole Expo in Nashville this November? A buddy and I'll be there.

I might be interested in going. Do they have a pretty good sized vendor hall?
-
Last year was kinda meh for vendors. It was much more of a pinball oriented show, with a hall full of arcade and pinball games on free play, and side rooms with consoles setup.. Several vendors there selling parts for pinball machines. There was 1-2 game vendors there, with some rarer old Japanese systems and a lot of custom cartridges.
I don't know what to expect this year. Different venue, with I'm hoping more space. I'd really like to see more retro game vendors show up.

Picked up Resident Evil 2 for Dreamcast from Gamestop. Got a kick out of one of the codes on the label.

Been on a Dualshock 4 kick lately it seems. Got the 500 Million celebration DS4 on the way as on this morning. Just pre-ordered both the BerryBlue and Sunset Orange ones as well. That'll make seven fully functioning and one with a slight issue controllers for PS4. Don't really know why I need that many, but it feels like I do.
-
I kind of want to get one too. I would loved to get the entire console, but I didn't want to spend the money.
They also have a matching 500 Million Sony Gold headset.

Would have loved to get the 500 Million console as well, just too pricey for me to justify. A controller, on the other hand... Free shipping, 10% off with a birthday coupon, and $20 from a gift card from Best Buy made it a real easy choice to grab one. Still a little irritated I missed out on the Steel Black controller and can't find it now so I didn't want to repeat that. Should find some way to display the controllers I don't regularly use...

I was going to say to give the guy some slack, as not everybody can afford top quality shelves or displays. That was until I noticed that each of those controllers was a Dualshock 4, and all of the PS4s casually tacked up on the wall with L brackets. That guy can afford every single version of the PS4 that comes out, he can afford to at least paint those things before he hangs them on the wall.

It's certainly not the way I would have done it, but it's the only example I've seen of someone is a large display of PS4 controllers. I would love to see something done by Wiggy, but since the PS4 isn't a portable system, it might be a while. ;)

I had heard about this game and considered getting it at some point (not in VR as, well that's not a genre for me), but I had no idea there was a gamestop exclusive physical copy. So when I saw this for $15 I had to grab it.

They wanted $2 for it. My guess is they had no idea what it was. As I JUST got a NEO GEO at the beginning of the month, this felt like a nice little book end to the journey for me.

When Amazon announced that they were dropping their 20% pre-order discount, I pre-ordered a crap load of games. The first one arrived today. I'm really looking forward to playing this. It's not another sequel to Portal, but it will incorporate a lot of the portal puzzles into it.

So far the game is awesome. I highly recommend it. Of course it has all of the Portal references anyone might want which is great. It's pretty short. I was able to get just about half way through the Portal portion of the game in one night. But there are two other bridge building games on the disc to check out as well. The platinum trophy for it also seems pretty doable.
