Well the official public celebrations were today (I know directly and inderctly few of the major bands, and know they had some sort of award trip earlier) and boy was it fun.
Free entrance, 10+ hours of music, lots of alcohol available to buy (or one could do what we did and go outside the area (Venue had open walls so we could hear really well to our car that was 50 meters away) to the car have tailgate party), great atmosphere, great food vendors...
One of the performers was ensamble of the two major bands with Mayor of Lemi singing one song (Hard Rock Halleluja by Lordi).
Photos and videos maybe coming once I manage to haul them (I didn't have phone with me, but brothers, performers and friends had).

That's cool but I would have probably made Birmingham as the metal capital of the world. You know, because of all of the important metal bands that came from there. Regardless, still pretty cool and have fun celebrating!

I believe this was per capita thing of how may persons living the town out of 10 000 are actively playing in heavy metal band.
For Lemi it was 480 out of 10 000 IIRC (Lemi has 3700 inhabitants).
And I down't was this international, but on the other hand how many can beat that per capita thing.

It does seem fitting though that a fairly obscure town captures the Metal Capital of the World award. Metalheads like to champion the obscure.

Fairly obscure?!!! We are fucking totally obscure. ;D
Before this we were only known (even that quite locally) for brand of potatoes and food called Särä... And nationally Stam1na and one member of Mokoma (and I think something with Kotiteollisuus).
