Ignition Entertainment (US publishers of The King of Fighters XII) are letting fans vote for which cover design to use for the upcoming PS3 version of KOF XII. While I can appreciate this kind of fan interaction, I see little point in it when both options are as terrible as this. (http://forums.ignitionusa.net/showthread.php?t=636) Seriously, what gives?
Anyway, I thought I'd mention it in case any KOF fans here want to make their voice heard (or if, unlike me, you have the energy to actually register at their forums to whine about it there... :P)

I don't know ... The King of Fighters 98 had some pretty bad art too :D

Regardless of what you think of fighting game characters attending cocktail parties, at least it had a proper cover illustration! As far as cover designs go, there are few things I hate more than poorly cobbled-together collages... for some reason it seems to be standard practice with US cover designs.
I hadn't noticed before, but there is a similar poll for the 360 version (http://forums.ignitionusa.net/showthread.php?t=635). The 360 designs aren't nearly as appalling as the PS3 ones, but they're still pretty terrible. Boring reuse of art, drab colour scheme, weird logo placement, etc etc...

Yeah, I actually kinda liked KOF98's artwork. It looked classy, like King of Fighters had some high-class country club close by.
Yeah, this artwork is pretty boring. I mean, I like the art work, I just hate the composition. I guess this means its up to us.

Yeah, see, that looks great, and I fully expect SNK to go with either that illustration or something similar for the Japanese release. I just don't understand what Ignition are thinking...

Elizabeth and Mature have been confirmed to be 2 of the console exclusive new characters for KOF XII! So if anyone here is willing to give KOF XII the Street Fighter 4 cover treatment I'd like an Elizabeth version :) She and Vanessa are by far my favourite KOF chicks. Great designs, classy yet badass with a cool fighting style.

Where'd you hear about Elizabeth and Mature? It's ticking me off Kula hasn't been announced yet, I've loved her since 2000 - and man, she would look beautiful in this artstyle.

Elizabeth and Mature are shown in an article in this Friday's Famitsuu (scans of which are, as usual, doing rounds on the Internet a few days in advance).
By the way, SNKP are currently holding a KOF 15th Anniversary fanart competition at pixiv.net (http://www.pixiv.net/event_kof.php), I'm sure more than a few decent pieces of art will amass there...

They have the Famitsu scan but it's a real crappy scan and there's not much to see other than a screenshot of two female fighters with the names Elizabeth and Mature under their lifebars. From waht I could see Mature might have an all new outfit.
If you didn't know the site before you might find some art to work with. They have some great art for various fighters.
There was an article on kotaku about the rumor of K' and Mai being in the home versions of KOF XII. I don't know where they're going story wise with the new installment, but when K' makes it into the game chances of Kula making the cut are slightly increased.

Pictures of Elizabeth and Mature, some details on gameplay and new features of the home version, and last but not least, shots of the Japanese cover art(s). They use actual cover illustrations, and they both look great - is anyone surprised? :P

Wow. That is some sexy cover art.
Someone has got to get their hands on that somehow.
Still ticks me off that not a single one of my favorite characters made the roster, but I guess I'll just have to deal with it.

Well, I intend to buy the Japanese PS3 version at some point, so I should be able to provide scans of that eventually... even if it'll take like, a year. :P

I hope it gets some really bad artwork. That would increase the chances that you make character specific KOF XII covers like you did with your awesome SF IV covers ;)
