Title: Just curious on how the uploads process works.
Post by: ngamer007 on April 19, 2009, 07:23:39 PM
I've uploaded several original (and a few touched up) cover arts under the name KyleB so far.  A few of them were removed today, a Pokemon Silver and Zelda: Link's Awakening DX restored touch-ups to improve current database uploads, an original retail cover for Super R-Type, and a custom cover for Taz Mania (GG).  I don't really know how this process works, do they go into a review stage after they're removed and just aren't uploaded yet?  And some others that I uploaded long before the ones that were taken down, are still up.

There should be an FAQ on here somewhere to answer questions about how the uploads and review process works. :p

0. You make a cover and check to make sure it is a good cover. 300dpi, not already on the site... (alternates are allowed)
1. You upload a cover.
2. Wait. (With so many covers in the upload queue, it takes some time to check one cover to make sure it is high quality, and no admin spends all of their time checking covers)
2a. Be prepared to wait a very long time.
3. An admin checks your cover for quality. (300dpi, proper template...)
4. It is...
4a. Uploaded to the site (good cover)
4b. Not uploaded to the site (bad cover :()

Yeah that's what confuses me, is two of the ones I uploaded are the same layout (Zelda LA, Pkmn Silver) as existing ones, but look A LOT better, yet they are not longer in the upload directory, but didn't get uploaded.

And the other two look fantastic, and are of the correct formatting, but didn't go up either.  It doesn't make any sense why they wouldn't be there anymore, but didn't go up.

Covers which we got allready can't be replaced that easily by better versions.... That power belongs to one person and he is extremly busy.... We won't host identical covers side by side because of naming conventions of our files.. Etc.... etc... There is a little more behind everything than you think....

Rest assured that no cover gets rejected without a cause!

Here's an example of a cover I uploaded that didn't get put up, and was removed from the directory.  There is no cover up for this game yet.  So can anyone give me a reason why it would get rejected?

From what I'm seeing, there's no point contributing to this site, spending hours of my time restoring covers to professional quality if they're just going to get deleted.

I don't see anything wrong with that image, but maybe the front cover was too low-quality? The rest of the cover looks good to me.

(I have only uploaded 3 covers to the site so far. I am more of a forum admin/jackass)

Yeah, that's it.  That's all I was wondering was just clarification on how this upload process works, it's very vague...

I had no idea they were moved around... my bad.

Admins usually grab a cover and move it to their folder or their HDD and then delete it from the upload queue.
