Post by: Strong and Nerdy (formerly tmntfreak7) on April 19, 2009, 11:23:11 AM
Hey guys I was at my local Play N Trade and I saw an old console I've never seen before.

It's a JVC X'Eye http://ultimateconsoledatabase.com/others/jvc_xeye.htm

I noticed that there werent' any covers for this console on the site, has anyone even heard of it before?

It's actually called an "X'EYE"

There are no covers for it, because there were never any games made specifically for it.

The "X'EYE" is a Sega Genesis/Sega CD all in one.. Made under license from sega.

I actually own one.

2 things that makes it better than buying a Genesis and a Sega CD separate, a far suppirior Audio Card with RCA stereo Support (something Genesis dose not have), and the Built in Karaoke feature (with mic imput).

P.S. If anyone one out there finds one at a reasonable price... BUY IT!!!

really?  It looks like such a p.o.s, do they go for a lot on ebay?

Also, what's a reasonable price for it?

$100 bucks is a reasonable price for a unit. I'll cost you a little more than a Genesis/Segacd combo, but well worth it... I've seen them go for as much as $400 when they are MiB

Also be aware that the X'Eye is not fully 32x compatible.

Edit: It might not be a bad time to get one of these.. The way the economy is right now, you might be able to pick one up off e-bay for as little as $30 or $40 dollars.

I have an X'Eye as well and you forgot to included another enhancement. Its CD drive reads at 8x instead of the measly 1x that the Genny/CD combo or the Sega CDX (which I used to own) has. It's why I've kept my X'Eye over the others throughout the years. Although the Sega CDX is such an awesome looking console over the X'Eye...

Yea, stuff is dropping in price.

I was ready to pay ~$60 for a virtual boy unit (no games) a few months back and finally found one on ebay with 4 games for $50.

Will Sega CDX games play on the JVC X'Eye or do you have to have a REAL sega cd with the 32x attached?

The CDX is nothing more than a portable genesis/segacd. I think you are getting it confused with the Sega 32x CD games. In that case, I'm not positive.

There are sporadic reports that the 32x cartridges will work, but the 32x CDs will glitch. I personally never tried it. I have my 32x sitting on a version 1 genesis.
