Been ordering cheap PS3 games off eBay and a few need new cases. NEW official ones are hard to come by now so im looking at alternatives.
There are a couple different kinds of clear knock offs. One looks way different and these look similar to OEM.

Their transparency seems slightly different to OEM cases though. Anyone have experience with the above cases? How does the "clearness" match the OEM cases?
And then there are 2 kinds of black cases. Matte and glossy. The glossy ones (that i can find) are way to expensive import into Canada so i am only really looking at the matter ones.

I actually think black looks pretty cool but it would look really out of place next to mostly clear cases. So my OCD would force me to do all of them. I cant find many pics of them to see how they look but i found some in PS3 collection vids.

Would suck for the few games that have art on the inside of the insert though.
And then there are 14mm blu-ray cases. I actually like the idea of putting ALL my PS3 games in blue cases but the white Blu-ray logo kills it :(

What are your thoughts? :P

Haven't ordered them in a while, but these are near identical to original PS3 game cases (or they were when I last purchased them)...

Same ones i linked :P
They are slightly different but mostly i think the transparency might be a bit off. This is based on a picture i saw with one and an OEM case next to it, that I cant find anymore :( heh
Could i trouble you for some comparison shots?
:D

Sure. Just so happened to have a couple left after switching my games to DiscSox sleeves.
Original case on the left vs CaseTopia case on the right.
Original case was from game purchased on Amazon this past Christmas and literally just now unwrapped to take the pictures.
CaseTopia case was purchased about a year and a half or so ago and been sitting on a shelf since.

Taking a real close look, the replacement cases might be a tad more opaque in nature, but once you have a cover in there, you really can't even tell.
I can attest that the plastic used is the same top notch quality as the original case. Not one of those thin, cheap, easily warped crap you get with a lot of replacement DVD and BluRay cases. Of course, do keep in mind that the last batch I ordered was a while ago. Gonna be hard to find real good PS3 game cases anywhere anymore as they were pretty much a one off (ie not DVD and not BluRay size) and just not in demand enough anymore for manufacturers to make a whole lot of them still. Personally, I've been very pleased with any of the cases (both game and DVD) I've purchased from Casetopia over the years. At one point I literally had my entire DVD collection housed in them.

Thank you! ;D
I'll buy 50 (only need 3 lol) while they are still available here in Canada :D
EDIT: Dang the ones they sell now are slightly different. Manual clips are different and blue-ray logo in a diff spot. I'll just grab some any way hehe

Not a problem. Wish you would have needed them six months ago 'cause I had about 70 or so I just didn't need anymore. Ended up taking them to a local independent game store and getting about $10 in trade for them.
Honestly just don't think you'll find any exactly like the official ones anymore. Not without buying used ones on eBay or somewhere. Just isn't the demand there once was for them. Would have been a totally different story if Sony continued the same case style with the PS4, but the PS3 cases are basically like trying to find PS2 cases with the memory card slot in them now.

DAM YOU!! hehe
Im gonna try best lowball offering people on eBay selling cheap sealed games for a bit. Then cave and buy the knock offs if i dont get anywhere :D :/
EDIT: Or maybe buy the black ones. I really like the way they look. But i have lots of games in mint cases that dont need to be changed.... so.. iduno! lol

Years ago I bought some off eBay that were very close. They transparency was pretty much perfect, but the spine was too narrow. The spine was the same width as a blue ray disc which is slightly narrower than a PS3 case.
Honestly, your best bet is to go to GameStop and ask if they have any extras they can give you. I only have maybe 3 or 4 PS3 games that don't have their original case, and all of my replacements have come from GameStop for free. Some places may not give them to you for free, but at the very least, they should have a handful of PS3 games in their original case that are priced at $2 or less. That's about what you are going to pay for cases on eBay anyway.

LOL.
Honestly, I really like the way those black ones look. The clear cases were great when there was a cool inlay printed on the artwork, but when it's just plain, I've always preferred black cases. They look especially sharp IMO, with the PS3 logo bar on the front.
TDIRunner's GameStop suggestion is worth a shot too. Worse that happens is they tell ya no.

Heh i would try the gamestop thing but everything they have is absolute trash. Almost everything they sell looks like its been handled by a minimum of 36.76 5 year olds. :P
Not much better then what im replacing. Guess it couldn't hurt to try next time im near one! hehe
EDIT: Hmm $46 CAD for 50 cases. https://www.ebay.ca/itm/New-50-Pk-14-mm-Black-Media-Storage-Box-Blu-Ray-PS3-Holder-PlayStation-3-Case/182093359224?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649
I might do that and put every game that does not have inner art in a black case. I have a few 360 games in standard black DVD cases and it isnt the end of the world. I actually like the way they look on their own. But they look a little funny next to tons of green cases

I found the comparison pics i couldn't find earlier. Hard to tell if it is lighting but it goes from noticeable to barely noticeable lol.. These are the ones i can find here in Canada for $0.89 a pop (plus shipping).
(Diablo is in the knock off)

What is the spine thickness of a PS3 case? These are listed at 14mm which is wider than a standard blue ray case. I'm just not sure if they are as wide as a normal PS3 case.

I've ordered from this place a bunch of times and the quality has been great. I just haven't ordered these types of cases before, so I can't vouch for the correct size.

I can totally relate to that. The GameStops around here are the same way. Makes me glad I went with the DiscSox sleeves vs cases. Saves a ton of space and no need to hunt down replacement cases.

PS3 game cases are 14mm (same as a standard DVD case). I'm guessing they went with something a bit thicker than the standard 11mm BluRay cases to accommodate instruction manuals. Wasn't until later in the PS3 lifecycle that it became normal not to include a manual.
I'd imagine that at this point, any PS3 game replacement cases you'll find are gonna be about the same quality. Probably not more than one or two manufacturers still making them considering it's an old console medium and a uniquely sized case.
I'd also recommend to anyone needing replacement PS3 game cases to get them soon. Most likely won't be too much longer that they hang around at all. Once upon a time, it used to be easy to find those PS2 game cases with the memory card slot as a lot of people needed replacements. Now, it's basically impossible to find newly made ones. The same thing will happen with the PS3 cases eventually. Though, to be fair, you'll probably still be able to find 14mm BluRay cases that house multiple discs for a good long while yet. Those could easily substitute for a PS3 game (just take out the inner tray) and still fit the original artwork.

One thing to keep in mind when talking about PS2 cases, is that not all PS2 games came with the memory card slot. I have several PS2 games in their original cases that don't have a memory card slot. I believe they were all later releases in the PS2's lifecycle.

That's true. I remember the first time I opened a new game and the case didn't have the memory card slot. I was thoroughly convinced that someone had stolen it and re-wrapped the thing for some reason. Then I noticed the PlayStation logo printed in there and realized they just changed case styles. Man, those memory card ones were so convinient. I think they even made a second change to non-logo branded cases late in the PS2 cycle as well. Only mentioned the PS2 cases because I recall seeing online stores selling brand new replacement cases with the memore card slot in them. Those slowly faded away. I distinctly remember seeing several online shops also selling the style of PS3 cases with "PlayStation 3" logo embedded along the upper right hand corner as well.

If i find OEM PS3 cases i will buy at least 100 (if i can). My google fu has only found out of stock OEM clear cases and in stock OEM red :(... For now i am just gonna buy 10 black ones. And use them sparingly to replace only the most horrible cases i get. They are the closest to OEM in design and they look kinda cool. They won't match the clear ones they are sitting next to but they will match my 360 games. All green with the few in black DVD cases hehe.

Found new OEM clears on eBay but the shipping is insane to Canada :(
