I didn't see a November thread. I've been going a little crazy buying clone systems over the past few weeks. I figured I'd post a few that I got in.
This is a clone of the Mega Drive. I love that it uses a replica molding and it has an HDMI port.

I also got this Clone of a Genesis 3. It feels a little junky. Has 800 games built in. The packaging is tiny. I put a Genesis game next to it for scale. The sound is terrible.

Mine came too finally. For some reason I expected this to be in a big collector's edition style box like some of their other releases even though that was never mentioned.

Got this as a wedding present from a co-worker today! It's complete too! (the one strut in in the box).

I totally meant to take pictures of everything before I TORE into it, but I just upgraded my PC
i7-8700k
Asus Maximus X Hero
16GB of Gskill RGB Ram
250GB Samsung M.2 drive
Clicked 1 button and got it to 5ghz easy. Now I've gotta deal with the rabbit hole that is RGB lighting. I've got 6 fans I could replace with RGB, and wouldn't mind eventually upgrading my water cooling to one that's RGB compat. and adding RGB light strips
Oh, and I also just got my OSSC in, so I've been playing with that as well.
-
My Project Scorpio arrived this morning. ;D
-
Well, i'm finally back again.
This was an october pick up. thanks to Radd for these CGC Snes cases.

Picked up way, WAY too much from the PCEworks sale.
His stuff continues to blow my mind. It’s beyond retail quality.
-
Nice haul! What's the deal with the VHS cases? Some type of collectors edition style packaging?
-
Just an FYI to folks, a lot of people feel PCE Works should not be supported.
First of all the guy (Tobias) started out making Sapphire bootlegs and tried to pass them off as legit. He would sell them for very high prices and many people got ripped off.
Now days many of his games are not clearly labeled from the outside that they are repros so many are still getting ripped off on ebay and you have resellers/flippers scamming people.
He also has taken fan translations and homebrews and created bootlegs for profit against the translators wishes or without permission. Xak III and Rockman are two of them, there are a few more. This has caused some fan translators to stop working on new games. Imagine a group spending thousands of hours of hard work translating their favorite game and releasing the patch for free, only to have some guy start selling overpriced bootlegs of it.
Well, I’m not an expert on the wrong doings and shadiness of PCE Works, this is just what I picked up on over at pcenginefx forums, if you want to know more about it, head over there and search the forum. Just thought I would give a heads up.

Was wondering the same.

I'm not familiar with the site, so I won't comment on what they do or don't do, but I will say that many members of this site are more than familiar with this type of thing. Just replace translation patch with game covers.

All manner of silly stuff inside. Both have a PCE Hucard of the game, windows versions, splatterhouse as an FM Towns repro inside, stickers, postcards, metal pins, and so on. It's nuts.
I'll post pics of all the loot later.

Yeah, I know about the beef that some people have with Tobias.
I can't speak to him trying to pass off repros/bootlegs as legit. I've personally never heard anything about that before.
But with regards to using translations and whatnot without permission, who doesn't? That's pretty much the motto of 99% of repro makers out there. The way I look at it, if you put all that work in and released it for free, then why does it matter if someone else is using it to create a salable product? He clearly puts a TON of work and time into these games himself. It's not like the guys out there who slap a label on a crappy snap together SNES cart shell and sell em for $50+, having spent about $15 and put in virtually zero time or creative effort.
It's sad that this alone has turned people off of translating these games.
As far as over-priced goes, hardly. You truly getting what you pay for with his products.

Taking a fans hard work that is meant to be free and selling it without their permission is just low. You could apply this to covers, music remixes, fan art. ..It's just not cool.
Sure, some people don't mind what happens with their work, but you would have to ask them obviously.
He clearly puts a TON of work and time into these games himself.
Probably a small fraction compared to the work some of these people put into their projects.

I don't see how that makes it ok. The fan who made the project isn't going to tell his friend, "Some guy stole my hard work and is charging 50 bucks a pop for it. But he threw in some bobbles and nice art prints so its all good."
As far as over-priced goes, hardly. You truly getting what you pay for with his products.

If he is patching the games with the translation patch and selling it, he isn't selling the patch. He's selling a modified piece of hardware. You can argue semantics, but there is a clear difference between selling someone a piece of hardware and charging for parts and labor vs selling the free patch itself on a memory card or cd, making you do it all yourself.
If someone uploads a patch to free sites, then they clearly intend for people to use it. Many patchers also give themselves credit somewhere in the game's text. Selling a patched copy of the game requires the tools to actually do so. Anyone can patch a rom, but patching an actual cart requires time, materials and costs. Selling to recoup ones cost and time is fairly standard.
If that is worth money is up to the buyer to decide.
...no idea if he's trying to pass on patched games as legit copies - THAT would be illegal and unethical

I’m not saying that it makes it ok so much as I’m saying why does Tobias get so much flak, when people have been doing the same thing for years. I never heard any bitching and moaning about Timewalk when they were around, and they sold more snes and nes repros than most anyone else.
Here’s the thing. The translators/ROM hackers put that stuff out there for free. Nobody is “stealing” from them. The theft is from the original IP owner. There’s demand for physical copies of these games which are otherwise unavailable, so they should only expect that people will try to satisfy that market. I’ve made my fair share of repros and I’ve been given my fair share of shit by people because of it. Some people just hate the idea altogether. Some people just love em regardless.
I will tell you this, I did (or at least made an effort to) get the permission from the translators/hackers for at least the last 4 repro packages we made. Mother 25th, legend of link, Marvelous, & Hyper Metroid. Two of those guys wanted absolutely nothing from me and we’re just happy to have the hacks put on to carts. One guy just never got back to me after several attempts. And one guy made me think that reaching out to these guys probably isn’t worth it, yet we still worked out an arrangement and the project went forward.
As far as a “small fraction” goes, I beg to differ. I know exactly what it takes to do what Tobias does. It’s easy to knock it without experiencing and understanding it. Besides, that’s really what’s being sold in a repro package anyway. You can just burn those ISOs to a CD and play em on your Turbo Duo for the cost of a CD-R. Anyone can do it. So what are people really paying for?
The packaging/presentation. People want it to look and feel like a retail product, and boy does it ever.

This is technically a combined haul from a couple of trips, but the majority came from Saturday. $1 each from a Habitat for Humanity store called "ReStore".

Bit prematurely but I'll probably buy new TV today.
It's LG 65" 4K UHD LED Smart TV model number: 65UJ634V.
New just under 900 Euros.
Edit: Now I has it.
It's somewhat bigger than I imagined though...

Believe me you will get used to it pretty fast!
And congrats on the purchase! I would have gone for an OLED if I were you. Best picture qual. available.

Probably.
And thank you.
Me and my brother are about to start setting it up.I didn't have time earlier as I just came back from watching hockey game (highest Finnish league)... Our team was beaten 0-4... Oh well we're still above the straight to the playoffs line at half season.
Which is way better than last season when we were dead last with somewhat wide margin.
This season our other goalie is Jussi Markkanen (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jussi_Markkanen), but today he was sitting on the bench.
I would have gone for an OLED if I were you. Best picture qual. available.
I know @ triple the price.
Curved could be nice... and maaaaybe 3D option.

One more snes themed doohickey added to the collection :)

Meh. I have 3D on my TV and I've only used it a handful of times and I don't think I've ever watched an entire movie completely through. I wouldn't recommend it unless the TV is same price with or without (like mine was).
-

Probably
That was fast... it already seems almost normal.
Funny how without direct comparison my 65" doesn't feel much bigger than my brothers 55".
Well in few years I'll get 100" 8K 5D super OLED... only problem is that I can't fit that in my brothers car... 65" was quite snug fit and 70" might be too long already to carry safely (75" or 80" would fit at angle but that would not be safe for the TV).

I agree, but I do like how my skinny jeans lift and separate my fat arse.
And yes 3D can be fun but mostly it's pointless nauseationg pain in head.

Oh and I just bought bus and boat tickets to Estonia so I can go fill my booze cabinet.
----- Start of rant -----
Funny how it's cheaper to buy 24 cans of beer or 2 liters of vodka from Estonia (2* 300KM on bus + 22h cruise (of which 4 hours (12 if you go discoing on the city instead of sleeping on the boat) time to visit the city of Tallin) instead of buying them from local alcohol shop, let alone if you'd live in Helsinki (no need for the bus so cheaper) where difference in price of 0.5 liters of Vodka would cover the 22h cruise.
No wonder Estonia scaled back on raising the alco tax when Finns and Estonians started visiting Latvia for the cheaper booze, instead of what Finnish coverment does = act happy when alco sales drop when taxes are raised (they act as they'd think Finns are sobering as booze bought from Estonia is not counted...).
As both Finland and Estonia are part of EU Finns can bring pretty much as much alcohol free from Finnish taxes as they please.
So Estonia gets tax money and Finland pays the negative effects of booze.
----- End of rant -----
-
It's cheaper to buy bus and boat tickets than booze!? What kind of taxes do you guys have over there!?

My eyesight isn't the greatest, even with contact lenses, so my 1080p TV is perfect for me. I can't even tell that anything higher looks better. To me, they all look the same. And curved looks goofy to me. Shouldn't our TVs copy what the movie theaters do?
-
It's cheaper to buy bus and boat tickets than booze!? What kind of taxes do you guys have over there!?
It's 4 sprong thing:
1: Difference in alcohol tax between Finland and Estonia.
2: Difference in vages (and thus price of things) between Finland and Estonia.
3: Real competition between bus companies.
4: Boat companies making most of the money on additional (but not mandatory) things like Estonia tax booze sales and food, and keep cruise prices super low to actract people on basic cruises.
Let me give explanation:
1 and 2: 0.5 liter bottle of vodka in Finland 16 Euros, same bottle in Estonia 10 Euros. = 4 bottles save 24 Euros.
3: Bus ticket can be as low as 3 Euros per trip + 1 Euro for reservation fee. = 2-way ticket + reservation is 7 Euros. Add to that inter Helsinki bus tickets 3.2 Euros per way from city center to boat tarminal and back and we're still at 13.4 Euros.
4: Cruise tickets start from 8 Euros with mini cabin.
True that the whole trip for me takes 40 hours versus less than 1 hour using local alco shop.
But take suitcase with wheels for more booze and savings are great, easily in hundreds if not thousands if you buy better whisky or cognag.
Of course one could bring more than needed and illegally sell the surplus... I won't, I'll just bring what I need for next 6 months, them do the cruise again as it's very enjoyable experience.
Or live in Helsinki from where you can make the trip in 12 hours using express boats.
-
Glad I don't drink or smoke or anything. Saved me lots of money it seems!
-
Let me give explanation:
Ah. Got it. It especially makes sense if you're going to be buying in bulk.

Picked up this morning this package, big thanks to Quazimoto
