Title: Playing old Windows games on Windows 10

Hi folks! Recently upgraded to a new machine running Windows 10 and have gotten an urge to crack open some of my golden oldies to play.  I'm talking MoH Allied Assault, Battlefield 1942, Roller Coaster Tycoon, Command and Conquer, etc. For years I've been able to play these in compatibility mode and with administrator privileges, but alas, Windows 10 is having none of that. Through a little research I've discovered that the problem may stem from Windows 10 dropping emulation support for 16 bit games on the 64 bit system. Crap, I'm at a loss here. I'm sure out on the magical land of the internet there exists a way to make these games play on the new OS, but I cannot find it. So I turn to you, oh gurus of all things gaming. Anyone have a solution?

Quick google about BF'42, and this came up. People are getting it to work.

I found similar threads when I googled the other games you mentioned. I think you're best bet is to do a search for any game you're looking to play and see if a patch has been released. Another option is to set up a virtual machine on your computer and run the games in the virtual environment. That used to work for me but I haven't tried setting something like that up on Win10 yet.

I've tried a few of these game-specific fixes with no luck. I've heard a few people mention a virtual machine and think that would be my best bet as I am looking for a blanket solution for a bunch of games. 120% no idea how to go about setting one of those up though. Been shuffling through a few forums trying to get some answers about it right now.

For a game called "Beatdown", I had to rip the disc, and manually enter the executable to allow it to run.  But that was forever ago, and I don't remember.... how....

Other than doing that, Virtual Machines.  Install Windows XP or Vista on the virtual machine and they will most likely work.
