Title: Anyone have a UK 3/2DS or Wii U that can help me out?
Post by: marioxb on September 16, 2017, 08:43:55 AM
I'm in the US and have three accounts on my Switch. USA, Japan and Russia. I bought a UK points card because I thought I could enter it on the Russia eshop, since both are Europe. But I guess I can't. I was wondering if anyone could enter my details on their UK 3DS or Wii U, and then I can log into my Switch's Russian shop and transfer the points over. Would that work?

Russia is not in Europe. It's in Asia.

Well, whatever, but it's considered a European country.

Well, whatever, but it's considered a European country.

It's debatable. Very debatable.

Though, from a continental/geographical standpoint, it's in Asia (well, the vast majority of it is. And all of it was before the fall of communism).

First of all there are no more "points cards" for the Switch, I believe.
Nintendo stopped using those since the WiiU and 3DS.
The eShop uses regular money / credit now. So if you bought an actual "points card", you can probably use it for the Wii or Nintendo DS(i) only, but not for the Switch.

If you bought one of the current eShop credit / gift cards, the legal disclaimer clearly states, that the balance cannot be transferred to any other account.

So, I guess your only option would be to resell the card on ebay and get the correct gift card from the russian eShop (or use another payment method).  :)

It's an eShop card. It's hard for me to stop calling it points, even though I know it's called "eShop credit" or whatever now. It says Wii U/ 3DS but it works on Switch as well (I've bought and used US ones). And when I said transfer, I meant merge. If you have the same account on Wii U or 3DS with points/credit (whatever you wanna call it), you can merge the money to the Switch.

I was willing to give someone my Nintendo ID so they could make a new account with my name on a UK 3DS or Wii U, input the code, and then I would log into my Switch with the same details and "merge/ transfer" the money to my Switch. Since Russia and UK are both in the "PAL Region", maybe it might work?

Ah, I think I get it now.
You want to get the funds of the card to your russian account, by loading them onto a UK NNID and then merging the UK NNID with your russian account.

No, I don't think that would work.

NNIDs are region locked.
For Europe that means locked to the country they were registered. You cannot merge a UK NNID with an account of any other (european) country.

"European PAL region" is a very loose term. Unfortunately there is no such thing as one common EU region. Nintendo is often handling every european country seperatly (at least concerning the eshop and account systems).

Yeah, that's what I figured. Oh well.. After blowing $20 US (the exchange rate) for a £15 GBP eshop card, it was tough funding stuff to buy, as I found out you guys in the UK got it bad! Almost everything is more expensive than US! Even if the prices look the same, your 4.99 is higher than my 4.99.
.
So I ended up getting Gunbarch (or whatever), 36 Fragments and Puzzle Adventure Blockle. Best way I could find to not lose to much in the exchange. I was hoping to get Sonic Mania from Russia, since it was only $12, but it seems that's almost impossible for an American. I haven't gotten a New 3DS yet, so I'm importing a Japanese one to help me get JPN eShop games for it, and Switch, since I hear it still takes US credit cards. Also, I hear there are ways to make it region free as well.
