So I guess that's gonna happen.

And announced the SNES will stay in production into '18

Thank goodness. My Target has had two NES Classic carrying cases ever since the thing was released but I have not seen ONE system there. Maybe they'll get their act together this time around...
-
Mmmmm, maybe they don't hate printing money after all :D
-
While I've been very confident that there would be a very large supply of SNES Classic Editions, I did not expect them to bring the NES Classic back. Great move on their part.

I wonder if they will make changes for the second batch to help prevent hacking. My guess is no because it would be a waste of time. Nothing prevents hacking. You can only delay it.
However, it's more likely that there will be some type of difference that forces some people to try and collect the variants. I'm also curious if there will still be some demand for the "original print" units.

Definitely can't seem them changing it, since they've already made it really clear that these classic consoles are not high on their priority list. Like you said, hacking is inevitable, and they surely know that.
I'm curious about this myself, especially considering they are currently still available via several Chinese vendors, made from the same parts/materials, in the same factory. Which also makes me wonder about Nintendo's possible role in the bootleg consoles. They haven't shut them down, which is quite shocking considering that they're 1/1 perfect clones...
-
I really hope they don't change anything. I got my 1st release and hacked it. But I really wanted one to keep boxed up on the shelf. It'd annoy me to know there's some differences

There were already at least two variations of the first batch (visual). The nintendo seal got added or moved in front of the box.

That's true. I remember seeing pictures of that a while back.

Confirmed for US as well. Also recall seeing mention of Famicom Mini resuming production too.

I have a good idea for Nintendo: bundle the SNES classic (or nes classic, or n64 classic, etc) with a Switch.
It will break sales records and print money like crazy!

Anything Nintendo makes right now will print money. They could offer a Switch Classic Edition with 3 built in games, and everyone would buy one (including the people who already own the Switch).

Think I actually read that the Switch stock is in bigger question for this holiday season than the SNES Classic.
-
Makes sense; I think that's actually related to the flash memory shortages going on. I also seem to recall hearing something about one of the manufacturers of the touchscreens used for the Switch going out of business, leading to decreased supply as well. Don't remember any specifics on that.
