Title: SNES Extra Vertical covers
Post by: flamepanther on August 15, 2017, 06:26:34 PM
I've been making some covers to use a bit more vertical space than the site's customary vertical SNES style. Of course, this means I've had to either crop the horizontal art even more or find alternate art from the Super Famicom versions or other platforms altogether. I can't take full credit for these. All of the backs so far are borrowed from others'. Mostly I've converted (i.e slightly stretched) the backs from the vertical UGC covers on the main site, but a few are lifted from CGC conversions already made by others in this subforum, such as the ones by breakmanexe. I've removed ESRB ratings and "Only For" tags from games that didn't have them originally and made a few other minor tweaks. It's been awhile since I started some of these, so I'll have to track down where I actually got everything. But I'll try to do that unless everyone feels there's no need. The most credit I can really take is for cleaning up most of the new front art--something a few of them required a lot of. Comments and constructive criticism are welcome. Anyway...

Ah, so this is what you meant by "extra-vertical". I like it; the Demon's Crest one looks especially nice, as I've always preferred that art over the North American box art. :)

I don't have any complaints about Julie Bell's cover art, but the SFC cover really does seem to fit the game better.

And thanks! I figured the bottom bar was only part of the original template in the first place in order to frame horizontal artwork. Removing it makes these a lot closer to Nintendo's modern game cases. If I planned on redoing every SNES game in my collection I would move the ESRB ratings over to the left like they are on GC, Wii, Wii U, etc. But I don't, so I left those alone :p

I just picked up a copy of Rockman & Forte, so I'm working on making a cover for that (and MegaMan & Bass repros) from scratch in vertical and extra vertical styles. I'm going to a convention starting tomorrow though, so there will be a delay.

If you downloaded either of the "style A" covers for Unholy Night before now, I strongly suggest you do so again now. I wasn't happy with the low-resolution source art for that one, but I wasn't able to find a higher resolution scan. I still haven't been able to, but I was able to fake one convincingly via Waifu2x. The result looks vastly better, and the image links in the previous post have been updated accordingly.

I posted the wrong link for the revised Retroism-inspired version of cover "A". It's fixed now.
