Title: Looking for Long and Supple Micro-USB Cable for PS4
Post by: tylerbgood on August 05, 2017, 11:10:43 AM
I've got kind of a strange request. I was wondering if anybody knows of a micro-USB cable that is less stiff than typical USB cables. I'd like a cord that behaves more like the ones on old video game controllers. It's a little difficult to convey exactly what I mean, but old controllers had cables that were more malleable and softer than the standard USB cords found today. I'd love to have something like that for my PlayStation 4 since I don't mind playing with the controller plugged in but don't like the stiffness of my current cord. I've looked around online some, but there aren't many retailers that describe the flexibility of their wires.
Any advice is very much appreciated!

I know exactly what you mean. I think what you're looking for is a Nylon Braided cable.  They're generally a bit more flexible that your standard cables.  Not 100% sure that's exactly what you're looking for, but they're cheap enough so maybe pick one up and give it a test go.

One thing to watch out for that I've experienced with my PS4, is that not all micro USB cables actually charge the controller.  They light up as if they are charging, but don't actually take a charge.

They variety with a flat, ribbon-like cable will probably work for you.

Thanks for all the replies everyone!

I've got a braided USB for my cell phone, and you're right, it is better than a standard cable in regards to flexiblity. The one I own is still a little more rigid than ideal. I should experiment with some other brands through. Thanks for the advice!

That's a good idea to wiggy. I had one of those years ago I purchased for an old digital camera and it was nice and flexible. I'll pick one of those up too and experiment with it. Worth a try!

DIY is the way to go...

Please tell me more! Do you have a guide or something you can link to for more info?

A guide?, no, I was just thinking how I would do it.

You say you want a cable that's flexible like old game cables, so take one, (or two depending on how long you want it), genuine old controller(s), cut off the cable as close to the ends as possible, (you would then have to splice the two together, if using two cables), then simply solder the usb ends on, possibly taken from your original cable, shouldn't take more than an hour...

Not sure if this would help any but I decided a USB extension would work best for my needs.  All these USB based controllers have USB at the console end but something different at the other end.  Before limiting yourself with Micro when you may eventually need Mini or a longer cord for a 360 controller maybe look at a male to female USB cord.

Well that's a thing that I didn't know was coming!

That's what I've been using for the last few years. I don't even know where I got it, but it's like 30' long lol
