Title: My absence in TCP
Post by: e_brugal on August 02, 2017, 07:16:46 AM
Hi guys, it's been a while without posting here. I've been occupied with some health problems that my dad is having right now. Several weeks ago he was complaining about a pain in the stomach, last week the pain increase and started to throw everything he ate out. After some studies doctors found a cancerous tumor in his intestine (in Spanish is intestino or  colon, don't know if is correct how I wrote it).  Yesterday the doctors gave us the news of what he have, and today he was going to surgery in the afternoon.  They gave him a laxative last night but at this morning he hadn't go to evacuate. So now he is going into an emergency surgery because he has an obstruction intestine cause by the tumor.

Wanted to let you guys know as i feel this community is another family.

Thanks guys.

All went more or less ok. He is now in ICU (intensive care unit) stable. When the doctors open to remove the tumor they saw that the colon was perforated in two Points, they had to clean everything and reevaluate the situation. They removed the tumor and more or less 2 feet of colon, and reconnected everything back. It took 5 hours of surgery to clean and eliminate every.

Now comes the part of recuperation.

Thanks guys.

Well, after almost a month in the clinic, he's finally at home. He's walking and eating normally now. I thought that the doctors connected the colon again, but no. They left a bag on the side and there's where all the ... goes. That bag will be for more all less 6 month and he will go again to surgery to connect the colon again, that way he will go ... normally again.

We are waiting one week to start the chemotherapy.

Glad it went well - sounds pretty similar to what my dad went through about 10 years ago.  He had the ileostomy bag for about a year I think.

Difference of ileostomy bag and colostomy bag is that ileostomy bag is on small intestine and colostomy bag on colon.
Poop on ileostomy bag is watery like pyreed vegetable soup, and in colostomy more solid maybe like soft ice cream.

I have come across both at my work.
Because I work with elderly most have had them for rest of their life, hindering their normal life next to nothing.
Those few that had their's removed the success rate wass 100%.

Well, 2 month has pass since my father surgery, he went out of ICU after 15 days and out of the clinic after 25 days in total. One week and a half at home and we had to take him again to the clinic, that time with kidney failure, all because of him not wanted to eat and drink anything just because he didn't wanted to feel nausea or vomiting, he was drinking two fingers of water in a day. he went into 6 dialysis and a lot of liquid thrugh the vain to get the kidneys working again, one week and a half more at clinic and ICU. 1 week at home again and we had to take him again to the clinic because of a paralyzed digestion, one week more.

now he's at home, he went out of the clinic 5 days ago fealing much better, now waiting until he is stable to start the chemotherapy.

Best of luck to you/him. Sounds rough. Hopefully treatment does the trick.
