Title: Is something up with the site's Photos?
Post by: Shadowfox on July 16, 2017, 06:08:28 PM
So I've been noticing about 90% of the images on TCP seem to be down. I'm guessing this is a site storage issue?

(Or is it just me?)  ???

Probably a Photobucket issue.  Photobucket recently had a policy change and has started to charge users for sharing photos.  Can still view them on the Photobucket site, but gots to pay up to have them viewable on other sites now.

Ah! So! What is a good  alternative for Photobucket?

I personally use Imgur and really like it.

Other folks have used Flickr and seem pretty happy with it.

imgur is good for posting thumbnail or sample images, but like photobucket, it compresses images which creates pixel artifacts and reduces quality. For sharing full resolution images, the most popular choices are mediafire and box.net. People also use Google Drive and OneDrive which also don't reduce image quality.

Most of us use PB just for preview images.  I think that's what the OP is talking about.

Mediafire works just fine for me; I'd recommend moving there.

Shadowfox, I'm so glad you mentioned this. I was not aware of this and now I'm so mad! I checked all my images and they're not appearing in the forums. Photobucket is what I have been using since February 6, 2014 to put full size preview images of my covers here in the forums. My images in the forums now give a Photobucket link to upgrade your account for 3rd party hosting. They now want you to pay $399.99 each year just to share your pictures on other sites like this one. That is ridiculous! I'm not paying $399.99 every year just to put direct preview images here. I'm deleting my Photobucket account and moving all my preview images to MediaFire.

Isn't it ridiculous? I had tons of images on photobucket on my blog, it hosted my Maxx avatar on a whole bunch of forums I'm on, and so many other things! It's going to be such a pain in the ass relinking everything, it's like 15+ years of files. Pretty much every forum and blog on the internet is a mess right now.  Such a stupid decision by Photobucket. With so many free image hosts these days, I would imagine this is going to put them out of business. Even if they reverse their stance and resume free hosting, they've now burned so many bridges with their members that they'll never recover the same userbase. I know I'll never use them again.

Hey can you guys still see my covers here? Because on my end I can still see em. I will update the covers.in the next few months as I'm pretty busy now.

Yup, they're still showing up. I opened it in an incognito window just to be sure. I've noticed a small number of photobucket images still work. No idea why.
