Title: Regarding Spam Messages on the forum
Post by: tylerbgood on May 03, 2017, 06:19:10 PM
Hello all,

I have a quick question for the site moderators regarding spam messages. Whenever I see them, I report them to the mod team using the link next to the IP log. I'm not sure if doing so is helpful, or a pain in the ass. I don't want to be reporting posts multiple times a day if it's unnecessary and only annoying the fine site administration.

So just let me know if my efforts are worthwhile or bothersome.

Thanks!

Don't worry about them, usually spam won't last more than 15 min before a moderator delete them.

True... but Breath of the Wild is taking way too much time from us to scan the boards as vigilantly as normal...

I wouldn't say bothersome, but certainly unnecessary.  I check the site regularly and clean it up.

What is bothersome, is if people comment within a spam thread, as that makes it more difficult to delete the thread.

Anything to get Arseen away from here and have him interact with the real world is a win for me!

This puzzles me.
I simply press the button on lower left corner of the page that says DELETE TOPIC and it annihilates the topic no matter how many posts there are.
Or I go to spammers profile and select option delete all posts and topics when deleting the profile (or one can use the same option to whipe all posts and topics even without deleteing the profile).

I could have swore you wrote "vaginally", but I see that you didn't.

carry on.

Alright then, it's decided! I won't report spam - UNLESS a really good game comes out and distracts the admin team.  ;)

Lol.  We tend to like different stuff, so we still got you covered. 😉

In seriousness though,  if it's particularly offensive/pornographic, feel free to notify us.

The worst thing you can do is reply to a thread started by spammers. I missed a spam thread today because a user posted on it and it looked like a legitimate thread.

and that user got bitched at because 1) he was trying to help out pinpoint something that didn't exactly look like spam, and 2) was making a joke because the timing couldn't have been better.  :P

Has anyone noticed that the bots have become more polite recently?  They like to say things like "I'm so glad I finally joined" or "thanks for having me."

I know it's just an attempt to pass as off as a normal member, but I still get a kick out of seeing that.

Ya, it looks like they've figured out most of us don't speak Russian :P

Maybe if I speak in plain English and use really polite language, they won't notice the link to my BS website.

And I've noticed they've started replying to each other in their threads too. A polite society of obnoxious bots - this is the future everybody!

One of these days the bots might actually start making covers.
