WHY IS THIS SUCH A BIG DEAL?
There isn't really an easy way to put it ... no one had done anything to quite this level. Quite a few of us Cover Artists have spent time restoring old scans to try and breathe new life into them. We have completed a few covers here or there or maybe even a whole slew based a game series but they are not done often. Why you ask? Because it can be quite difficult and completely time consuming. Now imagine this on a MUCH larger scale. I have restored/remastered over 750 NES covers. Some were easier than others ... some made me want to take a knife to my keyboard and mouse. Quality still does vary from cover to cover because there are limits to what you can do with a poor quality scan. If you have a box for a cover you think could use a new scan please scan it in at 600dpi and PM me.
WHY DID IT TAKE SO LONG?
It is a very meticulous process. Not only did I resize and clean scans and old covers to fit the CGC NES Case they needed to be uniform. Spine and developer logos lining up with one another were a must. I restored ~ 100 developer logos to be used on the spines. Why? It would drive me insane when each cover would not have the same size logo for the same developer from game to game. So now if you look at any game made by Acclaim for example they will ALL have the EXACT same size and logo with the EXACT same orientation and placement on the spine. If you really wanted to you could line up your covers according to developer and they would match perfectly.
This project has been near and dear to my heart. I can't even tell you how much time and effort I have poured into this. Well my girlfriend might be able to tell you as she got the majority of the neglect while I've been working on this project ;). Her, my family and friends probably sacrificed the most during this process. They didn't get a whole lot of my free time the last half a year. EVERY day i have had off of work, EVERY day after i got off work and the two week staycation I took were all devoted into this. If i had to guess I'm sure I have put in over 700 hours. Time endlessly spent in photoshop, scanning boxes, scouring ebay for the samples to correct the colors to and google images trying to find images to help complete these covers.
It would be pretty easy to argue I got a bit too obsessed and spent too much time on this project but It was for the greater good. I hope it shows through how passionate I am about these covers and I hope you love what you see. It brings me great joy in knowing these will help out the people of this community and game collectors alike.

Yes, in time most will. Quality restrictions will not allow some of these cover to be uploaded. Also, cover based on reproductions or flashcarts will not be uploaded to the main site for obvious reasons.

It certainly has. Your covers in particular made the process easier. They didn't require extra cleaning (just reformatting), most of the others were much more difficult :D

very good job.
When i learned about casing games it was late 2013/early 2014. Since the UGC cases had to be modified to do NES i decided to do that last. So i started with all the others. Then in June (ish) of 2014 Shadowfox had the idea of NES specific. So i did everything but NES cases and checked back to see how things are going. After seeing all the work and time that Shadowfox put in it was great to see someone take on a project like this. Great job and thank you!

thank you! i have never seen someone so dedicated to something and so much perfectionism im amazed by the worlk you put into restoring this stuff ill be using these someday with my nes collection ill have to wait till tax time but these are amazing! i learned about UGCs earlier this year when i was wanting a CIB copy of super mario rpg..and found a case with a stolen cover from here little did i know the size the community would be nor did i know how dedicated some of you could be! if it were for people like you i dont think thecoverproject would be anywhere again thank you shenske!

As of right now, the case type hasn't been added. So we can't start until that happens. I think snowcone needs to do that.

With 8 games to go, I ran out of ink. So a quick trip to the store tomorrow on my lunch break and I'm back in business to finish up. But I couldn't wait to get a picture posted. The covers look fantastic when printed out and the cases are working great. Thanks again Shenske and Shadowfox.

Gotta decide wether to alter the spines so they look as uniform as SNES covers look... and wether the NES logo looks nicer with black or white innerpart.
And collect money to order big lot from shadowfox.. Maybe take a little loan and order 10000 and sell 8000 of them... that way I would get them cheapest as I would save on shipping.

My NES collection is over the 400 range and I am still adding to it, printing all of the covers is going to be a costly thing for me. I like the work done on the covers and I am very much impressed with the job done by you shenske.

Just got my Shadowfox cases in last night and I spent the whole evening printing off covers and casing about half of my loose NES games. The cases rock and the covers look awesome. Just wanted to make my first ever post on the forums to thank you both.

Very Very Cool! Sad to say, that I'm already 400 + games vested into BitBox cases, but I do have to say that the shadowfox cases definitely seemed to have turned out mighty beautiful. I thank you shenske for all the time you put into it, and for my fellow bit box collectors, its quiet easy to drop these new covers into the template as well :) Win Win for everyone!!!

I think you can whip one up easily yourself.
Just take one cover and replace the artwork.
If I have understood correctly only spine width differs from UGC ones.

Just keep in mind i am using the "newer" naming structure that snowcone implemented a few years back (that no one uses). There are dashes between words. IE: nes_legends-of-the-diamonds.jpg

I'm looking to use a CGC to case my SNES Game Genie. I've cut out the clips and it fits (barely). I'm looking to get the cover below stretched to fit the CGC. I don't need it to be completely redone or anything. I tried it and it's not centered on the spine. I have extremely limited editing skills and would appreciate any help I can get!

Some of these didn't get a NTSC-U release.
I'd still like scans for them regardless but my initial project just included the North American releases with a few localizations sprinkled in. I bolded all the games i currently have scans for but have not had time to make the cover. I added a few in bold that i have scans for but are not on your list.

Anyone able to test downloading Soccer for me? I get a TOS violation page, but Shenske says he can get it just fine, so I don't know what's going on.

So glad to see nearly everything missing from the NES cover library included in this list here. I remember there were a few missing games that I found here or there in forum posts, to have everything in place is awesome, not to mention the improved quality.

So shenske, I have modify the Spine of a cover to make it as a retail. Where do I have to post it? Is the same cover just Spine change.
I assume that quality hasn't change, so if you approve them, it will be better to have custom and retail in the same place. Just as an idea. ;)

I am aware. I already have that scan fro nintandbox. The quality is ok but has some artifacting and some of the logos cover up difficult parts to recreate (bottom right ghost for example). It can be done with that scan but with great difficulty. A new scan would bode better results regardless.

Pretty much all you'll find here are the full covers, front and back. You can crop them down with most any image manipulation software though. Even MS Paint should do the job just fine.

Four Player Tennis - Known as Top Players' Tennis in the US

Sidewinder - HES release got the Art Work ready to scan
Super Mario / Duck Hunt / Nintendo World Cup - PAL Triple Cart, going to be hard to find covers for this one.
Think that it from what i can see thats missing. Let me know how you want Duck Maze and Sidewinder scanning in.

I don't think shenske did any PAL covers, I believe this is just for NTSC releases. I would imagine making a PAL set and a JPN set will be a whole different project. I believe he is planning on doing N64 and SNES NTSC covers next. The problem with making PAL covers is the lack of available RAW files. There are a lot more American collectors on TCP than there are Europeans, so there is less motivation to make PAL covers as well.
The best thing to do is to upload any raw scans you have to the forums and perhaps some of the resident cover artists will work on them.

I'm sure Shenske will update the link in good time. I just picked up a loose copy of Skykid over the weekend and figured I'd get it into a box. I'm definitely not in a hurry though, it'll be a little while before I make my next trip down to the local print shop. I'm actually waiting for Wiggy to upload his excellent Sin & Punishment instruction card so I can make a nice print of that as well.

Just download this cover and any cover that has the white logo.
Then open both in paint or any other image fiddling program and copy paste the white logo over the black logo.
Just remember these are CGC covers not UGC covers so the dimensions are bit different.

The cover is there, the link is just outdated.
But the link actually can be made working again.
Lets take Crystalis:
Right click on the link and choose copy link's address and post it to the address line of your browser.
You should get https://www.mediafire.com/view/?7w3iw2awjrpcq7b
See the ? in the non-working link.
Remove it and you'll get https://www.mediafire.com/view/7w3iw2awjrpcq7b
This link now works.

Nah.
Like many Mediafire links the link is just broken.
To fix it copy the link and remove the ?-sign from it and the link works again.

You can make the links work by removing the questionmark AND replacing "download" with "file" or "view".
For example:

Got a quick question, and maybe this is more of a paper issue than a cover art issue, but after printing out 250 of these NES covers, some of the back text printing looks a little fuzzy/3D-ish. Has anyone else had this issue? I use semi-gloss paper so maybe it's a paper thing. An example of a cover w/ fuzzy font is Gold Medal Challenge 92. I printed Eliminator Boat Duel right after it is looks fine. Maybe it's just the white/cream background w/ black print gives some sort of faux fuzzy look. Just curious if anyone has anyone has noticed this or has any tips.
