Since my sample of the SEGA Genesis game case WITH the correct artwork sleeve should be here today/ tomorrow I am now focusing on the next game case!
N64!!! ;D
These cases will do the following:
- House all Standard N64 game carts
- House the GameShark game cart
- They will come in Dark Grey, and Clear.
- The cases will be the same dimensions as the new NES cases. (The Booklet side and spine will actually be identical to the NES)
- They will have a Memory Pak slot right above the game cart clips/slot, it will be able to hold all variations of the memory paks
AM I MISSING SOMETHING? ???
The only variation with the N64 game carts is the GameShark v3 correct? Or is there another one I'm not aware of?

You scared me there for a second. ;)
Just to clarify on the memory cards, are you going for an open space that would hold the card loose (like what SAG is doing with their cases)? I think you will have to do that since there were multiple types of memory cards in different sizes.
I also want to mention that when you design the clips that will hold the cart in place, keep in mind the different types of Everdrives that have SD card slots on the top (different locations for different versions). You wouldn't want a clip in the same spot as the SD card.
If your clips will hold it from the side, you probably won't have a problem (they will probably have to hold it from the side due to the curved top of an N64 cart). However, some Everdrive 64s also have a USB port off of the side, so you might have to take that into account as well.
Maybe I'm being too picky for something as unusual as an ED, but I'm just trying to get you to think about all possibilities. ;D

If these cases have clips can they be a little loose? I'm afraid of putting my Gold Majora's Mask cart into a tight clip like the genesis cases because those damn carts are so fragile. Just maybe some food for thought to discuss for everyone?

Ooopps! Thanks! Corrected! ;) And yes good point! I'll make sure the cases will have a good chunk of the top open (For those ED sd cards)

I hear ya there! I have the gold cart for Majora's Mask as well. ;D and I agree! I'm thinking that we will have the pushing tabs in the back much like the NES cases have to accommodate the GameShark's protruding back. This should allow the game case clips to hold the standard carts nicely, yet not to snug.
-
I checked Ebay and all cards (not counting rumble packs as those are to big to fit the case anyway) and all seem to be same thickness and width only height is varying.
And one part of every memory card that has to be the same size is the part that slides inside the controller, so make some sort of slot where you slide the memory card in to.
Or maybe clips that hold from the side with one clip sliding in to the hole where the circuit board is.

Let me know if you need measurements.

Nice, I actually purchased a handful of different memory paks for the layout, I'm pretty sure they have come up with a design that will allow all variations! I should have a layout here in the next week or 2.
-
... I should just order 296 up front and be done with it ;)
Wait... 297. Gotta get one for the Game Shark.
-
I pledge to buy 300 black cases.
-
Well here we go again ;D.
Memory pack option is an excellent choice, I think the same as Arseen, you should get them hold by the part that goes into the controller.
Don't think it will be easy to hold the cart from the side because of the round corner that n64 have. I think there must be a way to put them on top, there must be a way without interfering with the sd of the ED. But in my opinion the ED option shouldn't stop the design. Sorry Tdi ;) ;D I know you like and collect guns, but distance is in my favor as I live in the Dominican Republic lol ;D :P
And I think everyone here have the gold majora's mask ;D

Just joking lol :P
I thought that you will really like the option of ED on this case but I think that there aren't too many people with that. if the cartridge holders can go on the side it will be great for the ED, but if not search for other options for the holder, like putting them on the upper part on the extreme side, if that doesn't work either, the UGC for the ED.
Though you get a little mad with that comment ::) :P so I made that joke ;D

I knew you were joking. ;)
And no, if the Everdrive doesn't fit, it really won't matter much to me. I'm realistic enough to know that you can't get 100% of all carts to fit, especially the extremely unique ones that a small percentage of people own. I'm good with modding cases to keep my self covered with those rare exceptions.
I only mentioned it to give Shadowfox as many ideas as possible. I know that he will try to include the ED if he can.
Your point about the curved sides of the N64 carts is a good one. I didn't think about that. The N64 cart will probably be one of the more difficult carts to hold in, but I know that Shadowfox will figure it out.
-
Do you still have that clear Pride case I sent you? Those were officially licenced by Nintendo. I thought they fit rather well and would give a good starting point to mold yours from.
-
I can't wait for these!!!
-
I'm pretty excited for these. These and then SNES cases are all that I really need for my collection still.

For now that's also what I need but soon I will start collecting other console like Sega and atari, also handheld of Sega and Nintendo. So we need to keep Mr.shadowfox entertain. :P

Are these going to be big enough to hold the game's manual?
Nintendo made an excellent case for their N64 games back in the day, are yours going to be similar to this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/OFFICIAL-CLEAR-NINTENDO-64-N64-GAME-CART-CASE-HOLDER-RARE-GENUINE-/181604911178?hash=item2a487f084a

Any news or drawing of this? ;D

Yeah, those are the official Pride cases. I sent him one to use to come up with a design for his case. And I don't think he would bother making a case that doesn't fit the manual.

These are currently the ones I have for my n64 collection, they aren't that bad because they actually fit the manuals in without bending the corners. The problem is I was buying these about 3 years ago when they were 1-3 dollars each depending on the lot. Seems like they are 5+ dollars each now...

Will this be capable of holding the official N64 cleaning kit?

Just for entertainment, how much longer you thinking for the n64 Cases? Even a rough estimate.

I'll post my template soon. ;D

I'm coming back to this! 8) So besides the N64 cleaning kit, Game sharks, and Everdrives am I missing anything??? (I should.... or someone should create a new thread about the SNES cases and odd shaped items, I'm taking both N64 and SNES molds on at the same time)
Small (small) update! These molds have been paid for and we are finally moving ahead on samples! Once the drawings get to me I'll be sharing them! I pretty sure you all know the drill here. ;) Once they have proofs I'll be posting photos and sending samples out to a select few (looking for flaws or items missed) I'm pretty sure the N64 mold is going to be the easier one out of the two, but I want to make sure we put all the N64 issues to bed before moving onto the SNES/SFC cases. ;)
-
I don't think there is any other size cart, other than very obscure and rare things, like the wide-boy 64 (A Game Boy adapter). Nothing to worry about.
N64 games are about the same size as Genesis, Jaguar, Master system and most Famicom games. Maybe have the case accommodate them?
Are Red cases going to be available?
-
For SNES:
- JPN/PAL carts
- JPN/PAL Super Game Boy
- US carts
- US Super Game Boy
- Game Genie
- Game Shark / Action Replay
-
SNES Universal adapter
-
Everdrive is same size as standard N64 game, just have to make sure your clips don't cover the SD slot (and I have no reason to believe they would)
Pretty sure that game genie (or were we at the point of only game sharks by then?) and maybe a cleaning kit are the only odd shaped N64 carts out there, at least in the US as I do very very little importing. I know there's a good number of people out there who have collected full set US at least, should be easy enough to check.

Yeah, Game Genie was done before the N64, so Game Shark is what needs to be considered. The big problem is that most Game Sharks (mine at least) have some type of port that could be hooked up to a computer. This make the Game Shark much thicker at one point which makes it difficult to fit into a UGC without it bulging a little. However, if Shadowfox plans to make the N64 cases the same thickness as NES (which I believe he said that was his plan) than it might fit anyway. I'll have to try it in an NES case to see if the thickness works.
-
well, nice to here that this is also becoming true. anxious to see this ;D

^^ related to ED's and the game cases (not cartridge housings) to be used:
some everdrives have a dual sm socket, the megaeverdrive has the standard sd socket (rear of ED pcb) and a micro-sd socket too. (front of ED pcb)
the n64EDv2 only has the one sm socket, we all know that's for sd cards. :P
had checked to see if mine had an mcsd socket too, nada. :'(
the megaeverdrive was easy to obscure, just drop a loaded mcsd in it, use a standard NON-breached/customized cartridge housing rear, and it's as good as bought legit and from sega themselves...except i've opted for no label on the MED, just a black cartridge. (used standard posidrive/philips screws for the housing.)
...
now, about the n64EDv2 i have, this also applies to any sd card and socket. (cartridges generally even, the principle is the same.)
careful leaving in an sd card semi=permanently, or the socket pins could lose some of their spring, and not contact against the card teeth properly, had to maintain my n64EDv2 by gently lifting the sd card socket pins.
so far, so good, no volume connection/stream issues since.
...
the micro sd cards are much more reliable of a form-factor, but it's whether krikzz bangs out dual sockets as a standard for all his spoofers now? (could ask?)
...
still, any n64 game case remake with it's salts would probably take this into account anyway just make sure the relief isn't closed off completely up top, leave roughly a cm on both sides for the cartridge to be gripped safely...without RIPPING it in two because cheap-a$$ remake cases have a death-grip on shit. (tangent: not this subject of course, just a general observation.) :P

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSs, the best news all day!!
-
Awesome. I've been waiting for the SNES cases! ;D
-
Awesome news. I'm very excited to get cases for my SNES and N64 collection! :D
-
Yes me too, this is amazing how he is getting all this together. Thanks Shadowfox!!!! Really waiting your SNES and n64 cases
-
Can't wait for these. Since I finally got settled into my house I not have the time to really work on stuff again. Assuming these cases are the exact same size as the NES ones I am about 99% done with my template. (Just need to shave off a few pixels from the horizontal.
3 down, 293 to go.
-
Is that a new template Pringles or is that Wiggy's template?
-
It's "new". Different aspect ratios and all so it had to be made from scratch. Also less grey more black, and some more color.
-
The front and back are passively the same, the spine is thicker.
I'm working on the retail N64 horizontal template.

They aren't the same at all. *Goes to book case, pulls out two appropriate covers and compares the size*
The old ones are like a millimeter smaller...Holy crap I've been making these from scratch like an idiot. Instead of this taking me hundreds of hours to redo, this might just take a good weekend.

Yeah, don't pull a Shenske and redo every single one ;)
-
You're welcome ;) haha
-
Spent a couple of hours on this during my weekend. Got a little over 10% of the project done. If I can keep this pace up it shouldn't take me too long to get the entire list done. I mostly worked on games I own but aren't currently cased. Can't wait to throw WAY too much money down at one time and buy 300 cases.

Any update on how the N64 cases are coming along?
-
Any update on how the N64 cases are coming along?
Still working on them. I have been going back of forth with the factory on minor details in the sizes and measurements it sure it taking a long time to get all this ironed out. ;)
Once I get a final drawing, I'll post an update with it. and then once I receive the samples I'll start the pre-order thread.
The one main thing I'm working on is getting both the N64 and SNES/SFC cases in at the same time, this will shave about $3,000 extra off my shipping/ freight, and brokerage fees. So yeah! Good times!

Am I reading this correctly that the SNES cases will be coming around the same time as the N64 cases? As much as I want some N64 cases, I'm really really really wanting the SNES cases ASAP.
-
It's coming at the same time because they are coming from the same mould, the difference is in the interior
-
Just a small shout out!
We have FINALLY completed the new layout for the N64 cases! (and the SNES/SFC)
Later tonight I'll try and sit down and whip up a more in depth post about both of these new babies!
Once I get the samples in for both cases I will be sending them out to a FEW guys who will test the heck out of them, if all checks out we will be ready for production, and I will be taking people's money for the "pre-orders" at that time.
My goal is to take both on at the same time... but it's going to be a big nut to crack. If I cannot do both at the same time I'll be doing the N64 THEN the SNES/SFC a few months right after.
I know I have actually done the pre-orders for the past cases all differently and I'm still in the same boat. I need to come up with a Kickstarter like gauge that I can update here in TCP which will show people how far away I am from getting each mold and cases in. I will not take the money until I have enough guys (and gals) who are ready to commit to it. In the past about 70% of the people who pledge end up buying at the start. And there are a few other guys who will not order until I have the cases in hand (Which also is hard on my end). So I will over shoot the cost a little bit knowing that not all will come through. ;)
Once the N64 pledge thread is about 80% there I will open the SNES/SFC case Pledge thread.
And Honestly, right after these 2 are ready to hit the water my way I will be releasing the next 2 molds I am currently working on. :)
More to come (drawing photo) later tonight!
-
Can't wait for this to come true ;D.
If you don't mind, I will like to test this too as i did with the nes one ;)
-
You can send me a batch of 100, I don't mind testing them all ;D
-
Exciting stuff. My collection of SNES/N64 is smaller (much smaller, with N64) than my NES collection... but still exciting! Will be putting in an order.
-
So here we go! ;D

Don't worry about the BLUE color, this is just the selected CAD color they chose.
Any questions? Fire away!
-
Damn :o better than i Though. No question to ask, looks great ;D
-
Will they be available in red?
-
Will they be available in red?
In the initial run only Clear and Dark Grey. Unless you wanted to order 5,000pcs of red. I would be able to do that!
-
oh oh oh, I can't wait.
-
Looking good.
So maybe I missed it somewhere, but it is looking like the case will be able to hold several different sizes of memory cards securely. If so, that's very impressive.
Keep up the good work.
-
A++ love it shadowfox. I'm definitely gonna buy those!
-
Looks great! I love the 'tensioner tabs' behind the cart. Hard to tell, but how do the tabs beside the cart hold it in place? Is it like the NES ones where the tab comes around the front of the cart?
-

Yes, if you look at the diagram in the side view you can see the N64 cart clip "hooks" they are going to have a softer hooking system since the game carts are not square like the gameboys or NES carts.
I understand their logic... But I too am curious on how these will turn out in functionality.

The first time I sow the pictures I thought the same, how he's going to secure the cartridge, but after a moment of analysing i Realized that the taps that i Though was going under the cartridge (like a spring) it was really the taps to hold the cartridge. The CAD make that part a little confusing
-
I know this is taking forever! But the factory told me a few nights ago that I will have the samples in hand by the end of May! :'( I was hoping sooner... but oh well!

Agreed. You're still delivering approximately infinitely faster than Seymour Onion has, and he was the furthest along of the various people promising new cases :)
-
I've been patient, helps me put off planning on paying for these cases :D
-
That part has been helpful for me also. That and the fact I haven't made any new covers in like 3 weeks.
-
These look great. Im excited to see how the samples turn out.
Having patience to wait for these cases is difficult (because I Ave a ton of uncased games waiting on the various Shadowfox cases), but totally worth it.
And it does help me save money ahead of time. :p
-
Just shelved my N64 games on a new shelf and everything looks so barren because I stopped casing new games or printing covers until I can get these N64 cases. I guess you could say I'm excited!
-
I hate being that guy asking for an update, but its been a month, can I ask Shadowfox how things are going?
I also just became the owner of a SNES ... so I am now interested in both of the current projects!

It's all good to both of you. ;)
I'm still waiting for the samples. I was thinking that once I get the tracking number to post it so everyone can watch them get to me.

Can you ask the shipping company to set up a live webcam so we can track them sailing over the ocean? haha
-
Is there an estimated date when you expect to receive the samples?
-
I have the first N64 sample here in hand (which I got yesterday) but there are a few items I need them to adjust on it right off the bat so I haven't shared it yet. Literally, in about another hour I'm heading back to work in catch up on orders and speak with the factory about the modifications on the N64 cases.
-
Nice! Can't wait for those and the SNES ones to ship. Obviously the SNES ones will come first and we're a ways off from the N64 still but do you think the price will be about the same as the SNES ones? Gonna set teh money aside now if that's the case
-

Yep! They will be the exact same price. :)
-
What is the status on this, I'm down to needing 18 games for the full set and I would like to get the set cased soon.
-
I have a concept for the N64 cases. They would insert/snap in like the NES cases. Looking at the crappy drawing below, first the rounded top of the cartridge would slide underneath the top clips. Second, the flat bottom of the cartridge would snap into the bottom clips. Theoretically this would keep the cartridge from moving in any direction, leave room for a memory card, leave room for a protruding SD card, and function almost identically to the NES cases. Despite this crap drawing, I am actually an apprentice Tool and Die maker :P.
-
Yep that would work.
-
Ok, so 2 month has pass since the last update from Shadowfox. Any news? ::)
-
I was wondering the same. I know he is very busy with life and making these cases, but that is a pretty long time with no updates on something that appeared to be nearing production.
-
yeah I know. I currently have 156 covers made for these, and if these never come to fruition I'm going to be a little upset.
-
I know he's working on it
-
These things take a while. Rest assured it'll all work out :)

Do you still have that clear Pride case I sent you? Those were officially licenced by Nintendo. I thought they fit rather well and would give a good starting point to mold yours from.
Are these going to be big enough to hold the game's manual?
Nintendo made an excellent case for their N64 games back in the day, are yours going to be similar to this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/OFFICIAL-CLEAR-NINTENDO-64-N64-GAME-CART-CASE-HOLDER-RARE-GENUINE-/181604911178?hash=item2a487f084a
I own a about 50 of these and they are terribly fragile. About half have broken bits inside. Pretty much all of my rental store cases are just fine. I wouldn't use their design!
I pretty sure you all know the drill here. ;) Once they have proofs I'll be posting photos and sending samples out to a select few (looking for flaws or items missed) I'm pretty sure the N64 mold is going to be the easier one out of the two, but I want to make sure we put all the N64 issues to bed before moving onto the SNES/SFC cases. ;)
I guess it's more than a little late, but Morita Shogi 64 (built-in modem), Mario no Photopi (SmartMedia card reader), Nintendo 64 Capture Cartridge (composite AV input terminals for Mario Artist), etc. Some games came with accessories, like the Microphone Pak or the Japan-only Bio Clip (don't know if either of those are small enough for a case). DX256 Super Saver and DS1 are a bit thicker but a BitBox sized case might fit them but I doubt they'll fit. There were two different shapes for the GameShark/Action Replay (parallel port vs card reader).

Damn. Didn't know you were working on these as well.
That said, I've got them ALL converted using a completely updated white template.
Did I also mention that I'll be selling Shadowfox white N64 cases exclusively? ;D

By the way, when does that start?

wait wait wait, did some one just drop a bomb and run away? more info please, and pics would make me go crazy lol

;D
The cases will be here in a week or two with any luck. The covers are ready to go, save for the ol' double and triple cases that I did for oddball stuff like the Rumble Paks and Pokemon Stadium + Transfer Pak. Those I will take a look at once the cases are here and I can cut a few up to see if I can make such a thing viable to sell, or if a writeup for the modification is as far as it will go.

The cover template received a complete overhaul. a large number of the graphics/icons/etc. were rebuilt in vector format from scratch. No more scanned icons and other such nonsense. I will upload the template for anyone who wants to use it for themselves once I get it cleaned up enough to make it obvious what is what for anyone besides myself :P

Sorry, I had no idea that you'd been working on them as well :(
Still, there's no reason you couldn't finish yours too. There are some significant differences between our templates :)
-
Nah, I'm just going to piggy back off your hard work. I have NES and Gameboy covers I need to make still and creating something that's already been made does not seem like a good use of my time.
-
I hear that.
-
Just sat and looked at my N64 games and contemplated going and getting covers printed for the rest of them but I gotta hold out for these new cases! Very excited, thanks to Pringles and Wiggy for updating covers so quickly :)

Any idea when for sale?

Any idea when for sale?
Not sure. We're still working on getting shipping costs to my shop sorted out. It ain't cheap, and I don't want it to affect the price of the cases too drastically.
In the meantime, here are some more examples of the love that went into a lot of these covers while being converted. This was no quick and dirty "copy, paste, scale" job.

I asked Shadowfox about this, and he said he just needs to get everything organized before he'll start selling the N64 cases. I believe a lot of the prep work is covers.
-
I seem to recall that shenske was focusing on the N64 covers as well instead of the SNES covers. Considering his personal goings-on, I completely understand if the covers are delayed a while as a result...
-
I don't know why he didn't post here. But he now has N64 cases listed on his website. I just ordered 300 of them.

What's your plan for box art? Converted UGC covers? I was considering some as well, but I figured I'd wait until some more artwork has been produced. (And I still need to buy more covers for my NES games.)
-
I'm in talks with Wiggy to just get a copy of his white covers. I have white templates for NES and the Gameboy games also. At some point I'll make a white SNES cover too so my entire collection is consistent.

Hi all!
So sorry I haven't had the time to actually announce to everyone that the N64 cases are now up for sale blank. Honestly, I ran out of the Dark gray SNES as well as my latest batch of NES cases so quickly I have been focusing on getting the refill batch in production. I actually placed the N64 cases up a bit early just to keep my sales from falling off a cliff without the NES and SNES cases. :)
I've been trying really hard to keep up to date with my site's 'Newsletter' while keeping count on how much I still owe the factory and continue to move game case molds forward.... with that! I should have something soon on the Game Gear cases. ;) I have a draft of them now, but I'm double checking the dems on it and getting a few opinions on the layout. Once that is done, I'll be showing off the design here FIRST! (I promise) 8) ...in the proper thread of course.
-
Great news. Thanks for the update. Good to hear that things are selling quickly.

Great to hear!

Excellent news, good to hear from you and that all is running well

So when are the N64 cases shipping?
-
Excellent. I shall place an order as soon as expenses will allow.

This is great now i got cases for N64 repros

Got mine today and they're stellar! Thank you!!! ;D

Any updates on the new horizontal inserts and when they will be available for download?
I see Custom Game Cases has updated and is now selling N64 cases with new horizontal inserts. Judging by the preview images they look pretty good, and most importantly have consistent spine coloring. :)

I would love to have PSD file for the horizontal inserts. They look nice and I'd purchase them directly but I would be displaying the cases on a bookcase horizontally and with the spin facing up to show off as much of the awesome artwork the N64 boxes had. In short, I'd like to rearrange the imagery to better accommodate this presentation.
Thanks!
PS.. I just discovered this forum. Pretty Pretty Pretty Good! :)

I have a question for Shadowfox: how many of the N64 cases have vertical covers available and ready to go? When I was adding a bunch to the cart on your site some of the covers properly re-oriented themselves when I selected the "Vertical" option, but most of the others did not. So I was wondering if that was indicative of availability.

At the moment we have 40 verticals completed. We have several in the que being created first. (Ones that people have already ordered) But 40-ish is the answer ;)

So I just ordered my N64 cases from Shadowfox. Was real excited about them until I realized the covers are not up... at least that I can tell.
I downloaded the vertical red template, but can someone point me to where I can grab the artwork I need? I don't think I want raw scans. Is there an area where the already cleaned up versions are?
Also has anybody already completed vertical red covers for the Shadowfox custom N64 cases? Would give me a great head start on my casing if someone can post those somewhere on here...
Thanks for any help!
-
Personally, I haven't seen anyone working on these, so I was just planning to tweak the UGC-sized covers I've already acquired. I haven't started on that yet though; I want to finish making covers for my SNES collection first.
-
From my discussion with Shadowfox the other week, he said he and shenske have been working on the covers. They'll be coming.

It's a similar situation to what we went through with the NES game cases. The cases were ready and delivered before the covers were ready. However, the end results was WELL WORTH THE WAIT.

Any UGC cover that has good artwork should be easy to rip the needed images from.

Now that you mention it, I do remember something like this being stated in the past. It has been quite some time since I last heard about it, so I had honestly forgotten. With shenske at the helm I suppose I can wait. His work on the NES covers was awe-inspiring. But if only 40-ish covers are already done by rhis point, it will certainly be a long wait for the rest. For me, at least.

Now I remember going through all that with the NES cases. And yes, all that work was outstanding!

Nope, I live in Southern Illinois. Commerce City is just where the package was at the time of me posting that screenshot.

I just finished cleaning up some work on Wiggy's White template. Hopefuly those will get posted soon.

So any updates on the horizontal cover inserts? (Or the SNES ones for that matter?).
-
Hate to double-post, but has there been any updates on making the horizontal artwork available?
-
Likewise, I'd be curious to know the current status of the SNES and N64 case inserts. I've been anxiously awaiting them since the cases themselves came out. :)
