What are the chances that snes covers will need to be converted to a new size? I don't really want to waste my paper and ink, printing
covers for ugc's if they wont fit into these new cases.
-
Shadowfox cases won't be the same size as UGC, will be the same size as Shadowfox nes cases. So, it will have to be converted to a new size as his Nes covers
-
Are those big enough to hold the game's manual?
I'm all for getting cases for games (and I really want something for SNES games), but the whole endeavor seems pretty pointless if the case can't actually protect the game and it's manual.
I mean, that's the whole reason Genesis/Master System, DS, and every CD based medium uses a hard plastic case in the first place.
-
Yes it will hold the manuals

Here is the update on the SNES + SFC game cases I am creating. This took a while to figure out but we finally got it!
As you see, both the NTSC SNES carts as well as the SFC carts will be secured nicely within this case. The small tab on top is the same design as the ones in the NES cases, when you apply pressure on these they flatten out, and when they are not pressed down the are raised up. So in this case this tab works as the 4th wall for the SFC cart while the other 3 sides have clips.
Something we are improving are the cart clips. I love the existing clips we have on the NES cases... but I tend to feel that some times they are a bit TOO hard to take the cart out. So I went and had the factory shave 0.5mm off of each side clip... the result was that they turned too loose!
So what we did was for the SNES/SFC cases we adjusted the cart clips where one side of the cases had barely larger clips, allowing the game cart a hair of freedom when taking out. ;)

Again! Any questions fire away!

Same as the N64 comment, :o
I think that no body asking anythin speaks by it self. Amazing
-
I'm personally waiting for the Sega Saturn, Game Gear, and turbografx-16 jewel cases. I don't see a reason to re-case my N64 or SNES Games.
-
UGC is roughly 80 cents per case, how much are you selling for? If more than 80 cents per case, then I think market will be smaller. Just a thought.

I have a feeling that they will be priced about the same as the NES cases which means they will cost a little more than a UGC. However, UGCs are cheap for several reasons, one of which is that the quality has gone downhill a bit. I'm still undecided if I want to reprint all of my covers and transfer all of my SNES or N64 games over to these, but I can say for sure that if my games were not cased yet, I would spend the extra money to get these over UGC.

Agreed. I will definitely get some for SFC cartridges as I have a ton.
-
The UGC quality has definitely been inconsistent. The cases (with covers) I was buying off ebay a few years ago were great. Some of the cases I've gotten since then have flimsier plastic and the plastic sleeve is just awful. However, the last box of 100 that I got was good again. That being said, I hate buying 100 and having 3-4 having busted corners. I'm definitely interested in the new SNES and N64 cases. I'm really hoping for Sega Master System and Sega CD/Saturn cases one day...
-
As I never had UGC i'm always with this option. What I didn't like about UGC is that they don't hold manuals, that stop me several month until shadowfox appear with his idea in the exact Moment I was almost buying UGC and stop me from buying them. Also you can buy from 1 to 1000 if you want, UGC only sale 100, 200, 300 and up and shipping to the Dominican Republic is a killer for me if I ship 100+ cases.
Also the idea of having each game on its personal case. I always asked my self what will happen if i buy Sega Genesis games with original cases and later on i buy without the cases, i will have to case on UGC that is different and I don't Like that. He is making some good quality replica cases
-
Is there a pledge topic somewhere for the upcoming SNES cases? I keep looking and have seen everything but that. I bought a dozen UGC over 2 years ago, then stopped that project completely to wait for ShadowFox's cases. UGC's inability to hold a manual and close properly was a complete deal breaker, and I've been super happy with everything ShadowFox has done! :D
-

Not yet.
Probably when the final proof version has been accepted.

Well, from my experance it seems that the collector market wants quality over quantity. True the UGCs are only $0.80ea and the shopper moves approx. 100,000 cases a year. But they know who I am and have admitted I'm hurting their sales with my NES cases. (Which I figured since I had them run my account and apparently I'm in 1st place for an individual buying the UGCs) And pretty soon here I'll be completely walking away from the UGCs, and I will get to that point where I will be bringing in 100,000 cases at a time per shipment, allowing me to drop my prices a bit and that will be that. I will get there, just right now I'm focusing on busting out more game case types rather than sitting on large piles of inventory. ;D
And I still have a few odd-ball cases I want to create and know that I will never sell 10k of them. (Like the Virtual Boy, or the thicker Gameboy cases)
I've said this before and I'll say it again; I am treating this as a hobby, the joy in creating an awesome product comes first, not the money. The money can come later once I've knocked out a few dozen molds. And I'll tell you what IF this was about turning awesome profits I would NEVER build the Virtual Boy cases. Those suckers will take YEARS to break even, if ever. But that does not dis-way me from building them, just like many of us have thousands and thousands in the games themselves, my thousands and thousands are in the cases and not the games. ;D
*Stepping off soap box*
These cases (Along with the N64 cases) will be the exact same price as the existing NES cases.

I will be creating Pledge threads for both these cases the moment I have received the samples and have sent them to a few guys to confirm all looks good. At that point I'll create a Pledge thread and take your money. ;) And hopefully the funds will come in pretty quickly and I'll be able to get the shipment paid for and ran within a few weeks after that. Then it's just sitting around waiting for the boat to arrive.

I think I will get a lot for SFC cartridges. So count me in for 500 cases.

Beautiful. I'll definitely be in for some of these and some of the N64 cases. It's finally time to scrap my cracked old UGCs.
Question: Is there any chance you'll do a version that can hold the Super Game Boy and Super Game Boy 2? I've wanted a good case for those for ages.

I can't speak for Shadowfox, but I really doubt he'll get a mold poured for 2 carts. Chances are you'll have to modify a case to do it. But being that they'll fit (with modification) in a UGC as is - barely, but they fit - I imagine they'll fit quite nicely in a modified Shadowfox case what with the sliiiightly wider spine.

Correct! For the Super Gameboy cases you would have to mod it. :)
-
I know this is taking forever! But the factory told me a few nights ago that I will have the samples in hand by the end of May! :'( I was hoping sooner... but oh well!
-

I thought so. Just figured I'd ask, since you're also planning on doing other niche stuff like VB games (which I'm also excited for!)
As for the delay, don't even worry about it. I will gladly wait. Good things come to those who wait.

Please let me know when this is ready. Also, can you please PM me the tracking number for my previous order?

We are here in the middle of June and I have been informed that the SNES/SFC mold is finished! They are running test cases tonight and if all is good, they will be shipping me sample cases to review here tomorrow or the day after! ;D
I will keep you all posted.

"Like"
Though I reeeeeally have to print out my NES covers already. I downloaded them all, tried printing 3-4 out in various programs, failed at getting proper sizes all 4 times, got frustrated and gave up for a while. Time to make a dedicated attack at it.

Thanks for the update ;)

Can't wait for these. :) The NES and Game Boy ones were incredible.
-
The long wait for an update is over! ;D Today I received the SNES/SFC game case samples! This sucker took 2 mold tries to get right. ( :'() But the end result is amazing! I snapped these photos really quickly, I'm working on the Pre-Order page for these cases now.

I only received 3 samples cases, and all of them were clear! I am only sending one case out, and that is to Shenske just to make sure I'm not blind about something. For the pre-orders on these cases I think I'm only going to do groups of 100 cases. When I do smaller amount on the pre-orders it takes a bit more time to cut down boxes and I end up having several hundred loose cases at the end. :)

Looking very nice. Can't wait to get a hold of some of these. The UGCs I have work for now, but I'd really like to keep the manuals with the carts, and I'm not a fan of the Bitboxes, personally. Shame on the pre-orders, since I only need a pack of 25 for my small collection, and maybe could go for 50 and have them last for a year. But I totally get your reasons. I'll just have to hold on a bit longer.
Also noticing that these will not be able to hold the dust caps? The case should help keep dust out, but just curious if I should expect to be needing to store the caps that have come on many of my carts elsewhere.
Keep up what it is you are doing, I'm liking the results.
-
Excellent! I put in a pre-order. Can't wait for the N64 versions next!
Not in a hurry, but what is the timeframe for these to get shipped out? Just curious.

Now I can case my SFC games.

[GOES SIT IN TO A CORNER WEEPING PARTIALLY DUE TO AMAZEMENT, PARTIALLY DUE NOT HAVING ENOUGH MONEY OR SPACE TO BUY THESE].
Look amazing.
-
Well done, Shadowfox! I'm very happy to see a sample of the new Super Nintendo/Super Famicom cases. The NES and Game Boy cases were great for a start. Once you get around to making double-wide Game Boy cases, they will need to have a different mold in the center. The reason for that is because the Rumble Pak Game Boy Color games not only are thicker but taller too. Keep up the good work!
-
I was super surprised and very excited to see the pre-order email just a few minutes ago. I was expecting the N64 cases to be done next, but the SNES/SFC case is the one I've really been waiting for. ;D
Unfortunately, my collection is no where near needing 100 cases, and I can't afford to buy them in bulk anyway (so far I've been just buying 3-5 cases at a time to slowly case my NES/GB collections), so I'll have to just wait until they are finished to start buying. I'm already drooling at the thought of having a case for my precious copy of A Link to the Past.
-
I think I'm in for 200. Where do I preorder? It wasn't up on the site when I last checked.
-
If the transport costs to Germany would be cheaper i'd buy 100, too.
-
This may have been asked but will some good artwork be available for these like the NES ones were? They won't fit existing ones beecause they are the same size as the NES ones right?
-
These look nice and I cant wait. The only down side is that I will have to do some additional modding so that they accommodate the clear plastic dust covers. My strategy is to remove all tabs and add block of foam.
-

Yoyo! The PreOrders for the cases are in my shop on my site.
If you can't find it, just PM me all your details (name, address, and e-mail to send the invoice to) :)

This is correct. The UGC covers for the SNES/SFC will have to be altered.

Yeah, it's not gonna fit great, but since my covers are (currently) all using the horizontal template, may be able to get away with using them without it looking too bad until folks can get caught up. Honestly, I'm tempted to start working with TyrannicalFascist's template going forward since a lot of it will need to be reworked anyways. :P

Ouch. 140 shipping per hundred to France is a bit of a killer. Pretty much doubles the cost.
Are there no cheaper shipping options at all?
-

This looks amazing :o
Now I'll have to finish the retail NES Covers to start the SNES retail one ;D.
Sad part is that for now I only need 5 cases, 100 is a lot for me.
-

Man if you had a donation page I would give you money lol, It's so frustrating trying to build out even a small collection like mine but having to pick from the page, the forums, and random google artwork and having varying quality of case art for my collection, not to mention all the ones that are missing art all together. That 100% collection you did for the NES alone is worth a donation in my opinion, to have the SNES in the same boat, even though I only have 18 SNES games, still worth it in my mind. You've saved me a ton of hassle and my small NES collection looks great, can't wait to get some cash and chip in for this preorder, 100 is a lot but will give me plenty of headroom for the future!
Seriously tho, both you guys, what you provide to the community is amazing, keep it up!

Just sent $30, it's not much but it covers the covers I've used so far and 10 of the next one's I'll be using from the SNES collection. Seriously, thanks man, you make this so much less painful for us!

Thanks! That was very generous.
You and a handful of other have thrown me a few bones and I appreciate it. I am flattered and glad you guys/gals like the covers so much :-[ :D

1.90 per case is a bit high considering that I am going to have to do extra work on each case, and reprint the art work. I better start saving.
What if you rotate the SNES cart horizontal, will the dust cover fit? or is the SNES cart too long?

Cart too long

Yeah, it is a bit of a shame that the dust covers won't fit, but these cases should do a better job of keeping out the dust than the original cardboard boxes, and probably better than the UGCs. The amount of play/slop in the UGCs is kinda amazing. Maybe you could cut two of the four tabs to make room for the cap, but there still might not be enough room for the extra width/height/depth it adds to the cart. Would have to be willing to sacrifice one to test it, and it wouldn't hold the cart as well anymore after that.
But it's the fact that these cases should have less play when closed, and fewer gaps for dust to get in that makes them worth the money, IMO. Well, that and the space for manuals. All my US releases are cart + manual, and right now the manuals are all separate, which I'd like to fix. And perhaps it's a bit easier to swallow for me when my collection isn't very big right now.
-
Putting my pre-order in now, but I may be moving in a few months, how long is the wait expected for these? Push come shove if it takes too long would you be able to change my address on the pre-order?
O yea, when I clock on the GB/C cases it shows out of stock but when I click on each of the tabs its in stock, I'm assuming since now I can order them again they are back in stock, may want to fix the images on the web page, figured I should pick up another 50 of those too lol. Whats another $270+ in game cases lol
Any word on the N64 and when the samples may make it over here?
-
Been out of the loop for a while, but so stoked to see SNES cases are made.
Surely this has been addressed, but as I've been out for a while I just want to ask:
Any gray cases will be available?
And min order quantity is strictly 100?
A job well done. Last I was active the Game Gear case was in the works--that still going?
shenske definitely deserves donations for all the work he did. I'm a bit tight this month, but once I'm able I'm definitely donating. Your work and Shadowfox's is truly remarkable.

Was also wondering how I could thank you for your wonderful covers... I just sent $15 your way! You deserve more but the CAD to USD conversion sucks right now. I can't wait for your SNES ones, Thanks for your hard work. :D

I'm assuming I got the notice because I ordered 50 more GB cases at the same time as the 100 SNES cases, but I just got the shipping notice and it says both of them in the invoice. I'm assuming they aren't coming tho, since this is a preorder right? Or are they really shipping out now?

Eh, instead of trying to pester Shadowfox on timing for the SNES cases, does anyone who ordered NES cases remember the turn-around between them being available for pre-order and them starting to get shipped out? I'd expect a similar lead time here, and I can stop checking compulsively in case there's an update. ;D
-
Wasn't trying to bug him, I was just wondering because I put the preorder on the same order that I bought in stock stuff in. It did sit for about 8-9 days before I got a shipping update besides here's your tracking number. It seemed odd because I was going in expecting a preorder and they'd just ship out in a month or two or whenever
Here's the funny part tho, the shipping info started to update yesterday and now It's on the way and showing a Saturday delivery. I guess we can find out then if they are coming out yet or not. But, as it would always seem to happen to me, the Army is sending me out on a 9 day exercise Friday night... Go figure lol. I don't want my wife to open them and see what I paid on video game cases, especially since we're buy a new house right now too lol. Hell she'd probably be more mad that I bought 100 cases but only have 19 games in my SNES collection right now lol, she hates when I get stuff just to store it (we live in a small house, hence the new one lol)
I can maybe try and get her to take a picture of the boxes... Should be easy to tell between 50 Gameboy cases and 100 SNES + 50 GB cases lol

I didn't have money to order the cases so I'm not 100% sure but the wait was very short if if I remember reading things here correctly.

Well unless a second box randomly shows up, the delivery came in 2 days early somehow and it's just the GB cases. No SNES cases, but that's OK, I figured it would be about 2-3 months. Now I just need to scour harder for more GB covers lo

No problem at all! Honestly, I've been up to my eyeballs in orders lately and my day job has been giving me 3 men's worth of work.
I am going to be getting the SNES and N64 cases in (hopefully) at the same time. :) I have the first N64 sample here in hand (which I got yesterday) but there are a few items I need them to adjust on it right off the bat so I haven't shared it yet. Literally, in about another hour I'm heading back to work in catch up on orders and speak with the factory about the modifications on the N64 cases.
All that said, I'm thinking the SNES and N64 cases will be here in 7-8 weeks. :)
-
About 3 months, right in line with my first guess, sounds about right. No worries man, do what ya need to do just keep us in the loop, I've got these guys over here filling all the need just looking at these awesome TF covers, between that and just finding the game collector database thingy I've got enough to keep me busy. O yea, and buying a new house then building an area to house the collection at about 300+ right now

Aside from the tabs being different on the inside, will the actual case be the same size as the NES version? I want to do a Photoshop template for future use.
-
Same size as the nes
-
Same size as the nes
Is that confirmed? I'm a stickler for details.

That is what Shadowfox said, so virtually 100% sure.

OK, then; thanks for the help. :)

So I don't know if anyone would want but I would love to buy a real small group of cases (5) from someone who bought a huge shipment. I only have 3 SNES games right now but would love to test out these cases before I have the money to buy a big 100 case lot of them. PM me if anyone is interested, I'll pay shipping + whatever you deem fair.
;D
-
remind me once they come in, I'll sell 5 to ya if no one else does, same price as SF plus whatever the shipping is
-
Any update on the estimated shipping time? I closed on the new house and started taking stuff out there yesterday for the remodel. Ive got a few weeks of remodel time but depending on when the cases actually come in and ship I may need to change my address I ordered from. Is that something I could do if needed, change the address compared to where the last few orders went? I'm not rushing or demanding, odds are I won't even use them for like 2 more months at a bare minimum, but if I'm moved by then I may need to change where they are going so I can at least get them and put them in storage
-
Been pretty quiet here lately, any update on the status of these cases?
-
Hi there. Any word on the SNES case delivery schedule? Pre-ordered back on day 1 and would appreciate an update if possible. Thanks!
-
Just checking, a lot of us got the shipping notice, mine actually arrives tomorrow (would have been delayed but FedEx got stupid for a day), just checking to make sure

I had a really good idea about making something like the VB case viable, as well as all the other oddball stuff like the Lynx, Jaguar, and so on :)
-
Got my small group of cases yesterday (thanks Vaulter). Now time to make some covers!
-
Has anyone spoken to Shadowfox with an update on when these or the N64 cases will be available?
-
Hey all, I'm back from the dead briefly. (I've been super super busy with work, life, etc; but for those wondering I do plan to eventually get back to the Nintendo Fusion covers...especially given below)
I finally had a decent amount of freed up money and bought 50 of each of Shadowfox's SNES and N64 cases. They are downright perfect! Everything I loved about his GB and NES cases exactly as I'd hoped for with SNES and N64! Incredible work Shadowfox, you should be very proud. I love that finally my whole cased NES/SNES/SFC/N64 and GB/GBC/GBA/DS collections all match! No more UGCs or chopped-up DS cases for me. ;D
I managed to fit all my regular SNES, SFC and N64 carts, my EverDrive 64, and even my RetroPort, RetroGen, and Super Retro Advance adapters without a problem! The only thing that doesn't fit of course is my Super Game Boy (North American version).
Has anyone successfully modded one of these SNES cases to fit the Super Game Boy? I wanted to check and see if there's a way already figured out before I go hacking away at a case. :P
Also, I've been out of it for quite a while...what's up next from Shadowfoxes cases? I see wiggy mentioned an idea to make a VB case viable, and that's intriguing. :D Any word on thicker GB cases for things like rumble carts, WarioWare Twisted, Gamesharks, etc?

Yes. Apologies for the cell phone-ass quality; I snapped these real quick on the way out the door.

As you can see, the cart fits like a glove when rotated 90 degrees...but ONLY if you trim the plastic tabs around the latch side. The molding at the top of the cartridge is what you have to accommodate. Took me about 10 minutes to make it work, plus if done properly, the case still latches properly. :)
-
Awesome, thank you! I'll give that a try.
-
I think the next case heading for production is a Sega Game Gear case.

I went a different way with mine by gutting a Shadowfox NES case for my Super Game Boy. It's a tight fit, but it definitely works and the clips for retaining the NES cart actually work to hold in the Super Game Boy cart. I'm a big fan of keeping my manuals in the case with the game, but unfortunately the manual clips wouldn't let the case close with the cart inside. I was able to work around this by removing the clips and gluing them to in a different position. The final result actually looks fairly good and is 100% functional.

Best part is that you cannot tell the difference between the NES case with the Super Game Boy and the SNES cases surrounding it on the shelf.

That is very cool, never would have thought of using an NES case instead. Well done; if I hadn't already made my own, I'd make it like yours.

What's the last status concerning a case for the PAL Super Gameboy and Game Genie?
