There are quite a few nice Sega Genesis covers around here, but I couldn't find what I was looking for. I needed covers that thematically fit the N64/SNES and in part NES vertical styles. Also, I wanted covers that had both the black-with-lines and red-stripes designs mixed in evenly. So, over the next long while, I'll be posting genesis covers in the format of a common template I put together. If you feel like making more like this... great! I have about 170 to make for my own collection, but after that I will still be around to curate any new ones people want to add. I'll keep this first post updated with any for my own collection, but see the ones in the following posts for all covers. Also, I'm using previously made covers for most of these (when possible) or existing cover scans, so a big thanks to those that made the ones before me.

For the barcode, I'm taking whatever was on the NTSC box. And I'm not forcing it to be that exact square, but rather centered around there. Also, your upload looks pretty good! Would you rather I just add your link above, or add to the mediafire w/thumbnail like mine above (with credits to you)?

I gotta say... I really love this concept and cover design. If reprinting and re-cutting all 100+ of my Genesis game covers wasn't such a costly and lengthy endeavor, I'd totally switch my whole collection over to this design. But there's a lot of games to play and a bunch of more pressing things to spend money on right now.

Thanks xspankyxduckx. I updated the original list to include the games from your list, and marked you as working on them. And I have a request: Please outline any spine text that is yellow-orange-red with black, please. After seeing them on the wall, texts like Golden Axe are really hard to read unless you're right up on it. See my Landstalker cover for an example, which reads well across the room. I was torn between black and white, but after printing white for Landstalker first, the black is far better contrast. I'll go back and will update those Golden Axe spines later if you don't mind. If you do mind, I'll just update my local ones.

Would anyone be able to post the gimp layers as jpegs? I use photoshop and would be able to bang a lot of these out. I have about 30 not listed above to create.
I tried to get gimp on my mac but it wasn't having it. :'(

My only issue is that the red lines seem to wash out when I download your jpegs/psd. Has anyone else had this issue?

Related, I'm doing some cleanup on the red lines in the background. I'll upload a new template with this cleaned up shortly. It'll be minor in a way that most people won't notice, but it's needed it pretty badly. At some point, I'll re-export all of the existing covers using this template change.
Edit: I'll also JPG export the layers for you when I'm done with this.

when you download the mediafire Jpegs are the red lines different enough in hue to tell them apart? Mine seem to blend together as seen above.

Photoshop / Gimp templates updated and Photoshop template added to main page. The red lines were cleaned up a lot (smoother). I may re-export all other covers to match in the future, but it's such a minor change that you don't need to re-print anything.

As for the wash out, I've not experienced that problem. However, I want to note that the red lines are intentionally lighter than the lines found in the other red template around here, so that's likely what you're seeing. Reason is that when printed on a calibrated or professional printer (home versions, Kinko's, etc), it gives a much more accurate visual compared to the red template floating around. For example, here's a side-by-side for Landstalker:

It's subtle, but the original boxes were also pretty subtle. And it's 'a little darker' than the original so non-professional printers will wash it out to a near perfect replication of the color.

I had a kid a few months ago we just moved Lifes been real haha. But I will be getting started back on these and also Im thinking of doing them in regular sega cases as well since shadowfox has those ill just need to tweek the template
