Title: Blu-ray Movement?
Post by: DemoKnight on August 23, 2008, 01:41:55 AM
Any movement to convert ps1 and ps3 covers to blu-ray sized?

I highly doubt it.

Nah, far too much work. Also many reason that why change PS1/PS2 into Blu-Ray size when there hasn't been a casing consistency between PlayStation generations? I'd be pissed if I spent tons of time to convert to Blu-Ray when Sony's next console (if there is one) has a different case.

I see more of a demand for DVD style PS3 cases than otherwise.

it seems like a fun prjet to do in my free time, but with school starting this monday, i go from having all the time in the world to absolute zero. if you were willing to make a "PS3 DVD Cover thread" I wouldnt mind throwing a cover or two in if i got the time ;)

Don't forget, you may not be able to fit the manual in a blu-ray case going from a DVD case.

I'd like to have my ps3 in dvd cases so they fit in with all my ps1 and ps2 games, mostly to get the spines to match as sony seem to have dropped the standard spines used in PAL ps1/ps2 games (Just the title, same font on all games)

Yeah, that's pretty much what I'd like to do (as PAL of course). Might have to start making some. Is there an official PS3 covers board?

Personally, I think the template could use some sprucing up a bit, so it's not just a ps2 case with a "3" tacked on.

That's just me though, and I can understand if everyone would rather keep uniformity.

I was just under the impression that people wanted uniformity. That's why the template is uniform with the PS2 and PS1 templates.

You could technically do a vertical PS1 style for the PS3 dvd by just replacing the PS1 vertical bar with the PLAYSTATION 3 style.

When the day comes that I own a PS3, that's definitely the type of casing I'm gonna want.

we could always just make two templates in the end, like with the ps1 cases, that way everyone's happy.

Yup, we could. I just modified Shenske's design. Since I was just doing a beta speed run I cut the 2 in half and duplicated the remainder, then flipped that duplicate. That's all i did for the 3. All the logos and stuff I pulled from the Shenske's (sp?) template.

The actual back, cover, and spine i took from the raws and just warped them. The cover and spine are the right aspect ratio. I didn't feel like inventing something for the back, so really it was pulled height-wise. Any ideas about that could be welcome.

I think I'd prefer the vertical PS3 logo on the front of the cover. As with the side, I don't mind sticking with the black bar at the top for uniformity, but still, it looks kinda....meh.

Here's something I did earlier to get some uniformity (is that even a word) in my games collection. Yeah it's just a modified PS2 template, but that is kind of the point.

The problem with keeping the Playstation 3 vertical bar is that the cover needs to be pulled up. However, moving the cover up typically retains the aspect ratio if you stretch it in place of the Playstation 3 bar. Now, if one were to use the Playstation 3 bar on the top as a horizontal, that could work in place of the Playstation 2.

However I would prefer a Playstation 3 bar on top using the Playstation 2 style for uniformity. Maybe the Playstation logo on the top of the spine can be replaced with the PS3 logo on the spine of a PS3 game? The one where it's red with black letters "PS" on top of "3."
