Title: NES Tecmo insert art adjustments
Post by: NOAH on March 17, 2015, 06:26:08 AM
SKIP THE FIRST THREE PARAGRAPHS IF YOU DON'T CARE ABOUT MY OPINIONS/EXPLANATIONS AND JUST WANT TO SEE INSTRUCTIONS.

Hey, all. I've been reluctant for a couple days to post because I'm new here and don't want to piss anyone off with an improper listing for help. The wiki doesn't seem to work so I thought I'd try here.

First off, I really admire the work that's been done on this site thus far. I've checked things out from time to time for a couple years and have seen the library grow rapidly, the library is now only missing 8 NES titles from my entire collection which I will list in a separate thread since specificity seems preferred according to request guidlines.

This request is regarding NES Tecmo boxes. There are some exceptions to the rule (NG3 comes to mind), but Tecmo games were always recognizable to me as a young child by their box art template. The Tecmo games I remember most fondly contained an icon on the back of the box in the upper left corner which was also found on the sides of the box (only rotated clockwise or counterclockwise to match the orientation of the text). The early Tecmo games (i.e. Solomon's Key, Rygar, Mighty Bomb Jack) were inconsistent with the location of the logo and had a purplish background on most of the box while the majority of red-bottom Tecmo games contained this logo in the bottom red border of one side panel and at the very top of the other side panel. I've always found this to be a cool and unique feature to these boxes and would like to see these icons appear in the red border at the bottom of the side panel in a similar fashion to the "Retail Cover" of Tecmo World Wrestling http://www.thecoverproject.net/view.php?cover_id=5680 . The proper side (left edge) of the original boxes actually had the icon at the top, but since the custom NES template has the "Nintendo Entertainment System" block at the top I think it'd be more appropriate to place the icon at the bottom in the red border, this way the game title isn't crammed in between the bottom red border and two top graphics. I feel like this was Tecmo's unique stamp which made their games stand out on the shelf, with this adjustment you could experience this at home!!  :D  I'm hoping the process below isn't too complicated for each title.

REQUEST INSTRUCTIONS FOR RED-BOTTOM TECMO NES TITLES:
-NTSC NES Custom Template
-Extend bottom red border across side panel for those that aren't red at the bottom (i.e. Ninja Gaiden II http://www.thecoverproject.net/view.php?game_id=3716 )
-Remove "Tecmo" from side panel if present
-Copy game-specific icon from upper left on back panel of box (i.e. sword for Ninja Gaiden, bat/ball for Bad News Baseball), rotate clockwise to match orientation of text, decrease image size appropriately, place in the center of the red bottom border on the side panel.
-For the following titles:
-Ninja Gaiden http://www.thecoverproject.net/view.php?cover_id=13326
-Ninja Gaiden II http://www.thecoverproject.net/view.php?game_id=3716
-Tecmo Super Bowl http://www.thecoverproject.net/view.php?game_id=5379
-Bad News Baseball http://www.thecoverproject.net/view.php?cover_id=14087

REQUEST INSTRUCTIONS FOR MIGHTY BOMB JACK & RYGAR:
-NTSC NES Custom Template
-Copy game-specific icon from upper left on back panel of box (i.e. bomb for Mighty Bomb Jack), rotate clockwise to match orientation of text and place AFTER the game title on side panel of http://www.thecoverproject.net/view.php?game_id=5309 & http://www.thecoverproject.net/view.php?game_id=5226
-Shift title text on side panel if necessary for optimal spacing

REQUEST INSTRUCTIONS FOR STAR FORCE:
-NTSC NES Custom Template
-Copy star icon from side panel of RETAIL Star Force http://www.thecoverproject.net/view.php?cover_id=13475
-Place BEFORE "Star Force" on side panel of CUSTOM Star Force http://www.thecoverproject.net/view.php?cover_id=13476
-Shift title text on side panel if necessary for optimal spacing

If there's a better way to submit a request, please let me know and I'll do it.

Peace,
        NOAH

Hello and wellcome to the site.

Bit long request but you did it politely enough so I'll respond.

English is not my primary language I'm bit lazy reader...

So for example on:
-Ninja Gaiden http://www.thecoverproject.net/view.php?cover_id=13326
All that is needed is to remove the white Tecmo text on the spine and turn the logo at bottom 90 degrees clockwise/right?

And then all other covers into be made to look the same lay-out with correct logo.

Did I understood correct?
If I did I think I can whip those up quite easily.

Arseen.

Wow, thank you for your willingness to help and I am glad to know that it is not too time consuming. You are correct regarding the instructions for the red-bottom Tecmo games. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Hopefully the adjustments for Rygar, Mighty Bomb Jack and Star Force are simple as well.

I just found the back of the box for Mighty Bomb Jack. Yeah, just the back. I must have cut it up at some point. Anyway, I will scan it later as the cover on the site is missing the star on the back that says "Special offer: Collect Tecmo's I.D. badges"

Did anything become of this? I'd love to see all of these Tecmo games in full retail versions.
