Title: PS2 - Fatal Frame I - US - Custom Cover
Post by: RockMax on July 01, 2008, 06:13:18 PM
I'm requesting an alternative cover art of the Fatal Frame 1 game.  The back is fine, I just hate the front cover with that severed head and the spine it matches.  Plus the font is so generic, can anyone help with this?  I want the front cover to do more with the game, also if the game logo's font can match the other 2 games that would be appreciated.

What an incredible coincidence!

I was thinking of making this very thread just the other day. Same requirements and everything.

My suggestion: what if someone used the PAL Project Zero (The name of the Fatal Frame games outside of the US) art and replaced the "Project Zero" text with the Fatal Frame font from the second and third games? The art is much nicer on it, and more fitting for the game.

It seems easy enough to do. All that would be needed would be for someone to scan some good raws of the PAL version of the game.

I'd do it myself (make the cover that is), but I lack the tools. I'm sure someone here can help though.

Here's some art someone could use. Let me know if there is a specific you may like and I can provide someone with the bigger image:

Personally, I think the first one would make the best cover.

I concur, I like the first one just with Fatal Frame on it, not Project Zero.  Anyone else working on it?

I'm wanting to work on it, but I'm needing higher resolution images than that.

Are you saying that you just want the PAL art with Fatal Frame written on it? or are you saying that you want the first wallpaper with Fatal Frame written on it?

the PAL art would be the easiest to do, if only I could find a good scan of it.

Yeah the first wallpaper is the Japanese Cover Art.

Yeah the first wallpaper is the Japanese Cover Art.

Yeah, I know. It'll be cropped from the Japanese version, because that "Zero" logo gets in the way.

Still just gotta wait for a more hi-res version

I think I can go with the consensus so whatever everyone votes on should be good enough for me.

Well those have been resized thanks to photobucket. The highest resolution i have is 1280x1024.

I'm sure it'll be fine.  Can't wait to see how it turns out.

Well, go ahead and PM me a link to that one. I'll see what I can do with it.

Nevermind, I found a 1280 x 1024 version. I scaled it up (with bilinear filtering) to 2560 x 2048, and it scales VERY nicely, you really can't tell it was scaled at all.

I'll be using this then. I won't be able to work on it for a couple of days, becuase I need access to the living room computer to do anything hi-res.

How's this?

Forgive me if it looks kinda cruddy, this is my first ever cover.

There's still a few things I need to tweak before submitting it, but overall it's more or less done.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

I've never played the Fatal Frame games, but the cover looks pretty good.

Dude! That's freakin awesome!  Nice job!  God I hate the original cover...Based on a true story my ass...hahahaha

PS- I'm also kinda pissed Fatal Frame 4 is gana be a Wii exlcusive...WTH?!  PS2 that jank!  I have all 3 games, HARD AS HELL TO FIND btw.  And I'm not one for the horror genre.  So consider this a huge compliment.

It IS based on a true *horror* story. The location is a real place in Japan, and the events that you play through all are the fable. Miku, Mafuyu, and Mafuyu's doctor and their stories are all fiction, but the location and what went on there is a *true* fable.

As for the cover, you might have tomove it over to the right cuz the purple from the "Zero" is on the right border.

Oh, so it's loosely based on a true story.  I guess that's ok, I didnt realize it.

Ya, I can see the purple too.  But honestly I don't mind it.  I'm still amazed and I can't wait to print it out.

This website has helped me SO much.  Whenever I had a game with no cover, it would take me DAYS to find a poor quality one online.  Since my friend showed me this website I have printed out like 30 some covers.  I go to Kinko's to print them out cuz these covers are so good that they deserve the best in printing quality.  Better than what I have here at my house at least.

To me it looks like acid burn and I'm like a little OCD about game covers.
Title: Re: PS2 - Fatal Frame I - US - Custom Cover

well it's not completely done, so I'll be sure to get right on to fixing the purple, among other little things here and there on it. I'm not submitting it until I feel that it's as good as it can be. I'll have to try and gain access to the main computer again first though, so be warned that I probably won't be able to work on it until tomorrow.

As for the "truth" of the story, I recall an interview where the director said that Fatal Frame drew inspiration from various ghost stories and urban legends. There isn't one single haunted house in japan that the game is based on, though there are several locations that helped play a part in the game's creation.

How's the cover coming?  Can someone tell me where to download a full version of PhotoShop?  I feel like starting on my MGS4 cover.

Here at TCP we don't support piracy. Be careful if you find stuff that looks like a full crack of something. Check it with virus checkers before you use it (some places online will scan files with multiple product's virus scan) because cracks are often infected.

@Rockmax: I haven't been able to get anything done lately. My personal computer is old, and doesn't have the memory capacity required to work with this stuff, so I have to use the living room computer, which is usually pretty off-limits unless I'm home alone, because someone else is ALWAYS on.

As for PS, you could try free alternatives, such as Paint.NET or Gimp. I'm using Gimp right now.

Fixed the purple, adjusted some colors (made the blacks more black), moved the Tecmo logo up a bit and corrected the SCUS number.

How is it now? I think it's just about ready to be submitted, but I want to hear your thoughts first.

The back could use some work. Can't give you much in terms of ideas but I can tell you what looks off. The white & yellow font look awkward. Too 'Boxy' and small. The screens look like you just threw them in there, the same I guess can be applied to the fonts. Background and bottom left picture are okay. I would just recommend re-arranging the fonts and screens. Perhaps making the fonts the same color (Yellow just seems bad for a color on this type of game), if it's about being able to see it then give them some black shadow like the game's logo.

The original poster requested that I use the original back cover from the game, so that's all the original art and not my doing. It's bad, I know. :P

I hadn't even considered doing a new back, but I may go ahead and do that, though it'll delay the finishing of this cover. If RockMax wants this one, I can upload it to mediafire or something.

Uploaded a raw of the Xbox cover. You could rip the back from that, you would have to remove "and enhanced for the Xbox" from the first sentence.

If you want to do a new back that is perfectly fine.  But in the end I would like to choose between them.  The back does look thrown together but it is official.  But I really don't mind either way, all I care about is the front and spine.

The link doesn't work, but I think your cover looks pretty dang good anyway.

Heh, that's a little creepy.  I guess which ever is done in the end is what I'll be happy with.  Personally choosing between the PS2 and X-Box backs I would have to choose the PS2.

Well, for one, the Xbox cover would need a LOT of formatting to conform to the ps2, moreso than a simple change of text.

anyhow, if you want, here's a mediafire link to the one with the ps2 back. it's in a zip file. http://www.mediafire.com/?43i0jxmngj4

I don't know if I'll end up making a custom back any time soon, I have a lot of other stuff I need to get to work on.
